Cherreads

Chapter 5 - Chapter 3 Life and Death

"Yugi? No, no, NO!" Yuta already had tears in his eyes as Yugito's body fell to the ground. It hit the grass with a soft thud and Yuta was wiping his eyes.

"You did this to her! If B didn't pick you up Yugito wouldn't have been stabbed!" He screamed while I was frozen in shock. I stepped towards her body to flip it over. 'Jinchurikii healing right? She can't be gone, right?' My mind was racing at 1000 km a second as I stalked closer towards her body.

Yuta stepped over Yugito and kicked my chest, flinging me backwards. I was still alive but 70 hp was a large cost.

"You have taken a large amount of damage! 105 hp remaining"

My vision was blurry, but I could read the message fine, that bastard had just destroyed a third of my health with one kick. He probably half-assed it as well.

Yuta came towards me slowly while wiping tears from his eyes. "If only you weren't here. For the first time I had gotten a clear look at them, his eyes instead of the brown colour they were before had changed slightly to a deep maroon with small black spots surrounding the pupil.

I chalked it up to his tears, but I had bigger problems. Behind Yuta was an intense heat emanating from the grass. Suddenly I was looking into the god of death himself. Yuta turned around and smiled brightly.

"Yugi! You're okay! I was so worried. I just need to finish this up and we can go get lunch." Yuta said cheerfully while pointing towards the porch where I saw a horrid sight.

Tsumugi, one of the most cheerful and happy people I had ever met in both of my lives was resting in a chair on the porch. With her stomach been opened with a blade. She was far gone and Yugito had stood up with a dark blue chakra pouring from her pores. I wanted to stop her, but she looked to where he was pointing, Yuta was clearly too far gone to know what was going on. He saw his wife happily waving them over for lunch, and his daughter looking at her with a happy expression.

Yuta knew he had to finish the job, behind him was a cloud jonin with a scratched-out headband he knew as Riku, his traitorous friend. His image flashed between him and Shin, like Shin was his reincarnate, it was a gift to be able to kill the reason he had to live in this valley, the reason he was pushed out of the forces. He was not insane, he had nothing wrong, it was his fault, all him.

"So, finish him" His mind called out and he quickly followed through looking back towards Riku's reincarnate, Shin. As he turned around, he saw not his friend that took all he had but a small toddler that knew nothing else. This moment of hesitation had dire consequences…

Yugito ran up from behind him with a chakra enhanced claw and carved through his chest, heart skewered on her pointer and middle fingers, still beating but slowly. The light faded from Yuta's eyes as Yugito pulled her hand back through.

As his body fell down, Yuta only thought of his wife running over 'Must have done too much training haha. I'll be in for lunch soon don't worry Tsumugi' he said in his mind as his eyes closed.

Behind the corpse was Yugito in a horrifying cloak of blue, dark spotted chakra that sprouted 2 small ears from her head and a long tail out the back. Yugito's eyes were slits and were boring straight through Shin. "A" Was all she heard from the child who could not speak.

Yugito's cloak slowly faded and the hole through her shirt showed there was no remaining injury from the kunai. She collapsed on the floor over her father leaving Shin the only one there with tears flowing down his face.

'I had only known these people for a few days. I shouldn't have trusted them. Yuta was insane, I let a man who just tried to kill me carry me around and train me. I'm so stupid, why did I ever think I could trust these people' Was what Shin thought but his heart felt otherwise. His new family that he believed he could grow with and was starting to get attached to was ripped from him. 'The system really was pity. The gods won't allow me to trust and love again' His thoughts became darker as he went back inside the house, he lived in for less than a week. 'Who cares anymore. I was excited for this world, a new chance but there was nothing here for me nor will there ever be. I won't hide my skills; I will become the strongest and nobody will form the fickle relationships to hold me back. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me but never again will I be fooled by these people.'

3 hours later

I was sitting on the couch staring at the static on the TV as I heard a noise from outside. I picked up the kunai Yuta had used and walked out. There was Yugito, staring at the crimson liquid dried on her hands, there were no tears from what I could here as I walked behind her. She barely noticed my existence as I sat next to her and grabbed her wrist. I blared my chakra twice and started to walk away before she grabbed my arm.

Her claws were out, and my bicep started to bleed. "What happened here Shin?" She said with her lip quivering, even if I could speak there was nothing to say. The evidence was there and even a toddler could put the pieces together. Something told me I shouldn't let her believe she did this, but I threw it off as any feelings of thankfulness from her knowing she didn't do it would be outweighed by her hatred towards me.

I looked back towards her, and she flinched. 'Weird' I thought before slapping her arm off of me and walking back towards the house. She followed me inside as I raided the pantry with a stool, shoving some necessities in a bag all too big for me.

"What are you doing? Shin? Answer me?" She kept pestering while I continued my work, filling up a couple of water bottles I closed the bag with the magnets on top and hooked it on my shoulder. It easily weighed over 7kg with all the stuff I had inside, but it was an easy feat to carry with my strength.

Yugito followed me outside as I walked off before shouting "Shin! Someone murdered everyone! We need to stay here!" As I kept walking. Tears filled her eyes as I could hear her sobbing from the porch, she had no one left. Her father was dead, mother was dead, and Shin was leaving. Yugito needed something, anything to hold onto as she chased after me.

"If you are going then I'm coming" she said between sobs as we fell into step with each other. She was quite a bit taller than me but was too busy wiping her eyes to speed up ahead. We left down the mountain steps before coming across a man delivering postal in his wagon.

"You two kids need to head back home. Its dangerous around here." He said in a neutral tone before handing us a letter. "When you go back can you hand this to Yuta-san please?" Was all he said before turning around giving a quick thanks and going back down. I took it out of Yugito's hands as she started to cry again and read it.

Yo mister Nii it's me Killer B

Calling in from the war since the postman's making a tour!

How's Shin doing? I have left some cash for you to use for anything he may need. I'll come visit on his birthday in February so be ready.

From the awesome jinchurikii Killer B, WHEEEEEEE!

I snickered a bit at his writing and fished inside the envelope for the stack of bills he left, sure enough there was over 100,000 ryo which I quickly stored inside the outside pocket of the back I was holding.

I grabbed Yugito's hand and left, leaving the letter behind in the dirt. As we trekked down the mountain there was still about 3 hours until we make it to Kumo and only an hour before sundown.

We stopped at the bottom of the mountain and chose a spot near the rocks making a campfire outside the tree cover. I went around and grabbed some sticks and rocks for a pit while Yugito sat at camp watching the bag.

I made a circle with the rocks and chucked the dried sticks and leaves in the middle before rummaging through the bag for the tools. I brought out some flint and used one of the rocks to light a spark on the leaves creating a small fire that would die out within the hour.

I chucked the flint back in the bag and replaced it for a blanket which I laid out under the tree. I patted it twice to catch Yugito's attention, which it didn't before going over and grabbing her hand to lead her. The blanket was a pretty good size, so we huddled together and slept through the night.

The next morning

"Shin, Shin!" Yugito said while shaking me awake, I shook off the sleep in my eyes while looking towards where she was pointing. Through the brush we could see the sun rising, it was a beautiful sight as I packed up our stuff and moved onward towards Kumo.

Several hours later

It took much longer than I thought to get there because of my pace specifically my inability to speed up, but we eventually made it to the main road towards Kumo around midday and that's when the question came out.

"So, which way? Are we going to the city or more camping?" She said quizzically as I decided. I was opted as the leader of the pair since I was smarter than her in her mind and was like an adult which she noted no less than 60 times in the past 2 hours.

It was a tough choice, do we go towards the city and live there, or do we leave towards a different country, then I remembered there was a war going on, so I picked up her hand and led her towards the city.

When we reached the city entrance, we were stopped by two chunin who held out the point of their blades towards us. I put both of my hands up in a sign on piece and Yugito followed suit, still holding onto my left hand with her right.

We were patted down then scanned by the sensor who gave the all clear and we were asked a few questions.

"Why are you trying to enter Kumo?" Was the first question.

Yugito answered honestly. "Our family was killed on the mountains, so we came here."

"Names?" He asked in a bored tone.

"Nii Yugito and Shin" she said while putting her hand on my head.

"The Nii family is dead?" He said with earnest surprise.

"Yes, when I woke up everyone was dead besides Shin, and he can't talk." She replied calmly.

"Alright you have been granted permission to enter, please enjoy your stay." He shooed us off while calling for a group of chunin.

"So… what now?" Yugito asked while walking alongside me.

I pointed forward and walked off while she followed, and we headed towards a big building I recognised. Heading inside I was greeted by all of the kids running around and about before the matron came up to us.

"Hello, you two is there something you need?" She said in a cheerful tone, she probably forgot who I was it has been a year after all.

"Mum and Dad are gone so can we stay here?" Yugito said, picking up what I was doing, bringing us here.

"Of course! We just need your names, and I will ask for the Raikage to put this through. You can stay here tonight though without any worries" She replied not putting any pity into her words.

"My name is Nii Yugito, and this is Shin" Yugito answered as I put down the bag I was holding on a nearby drawing desk.

The matron jotted down our names before leading us upstairs, so I grabbed the bag I just put down and followed her. "Would you two like room with two beds or 2 rooms with one?" She asked, since there weren't many orphans right now, they had quite a bit of room.

"1 room with 2 beds please" Yugito politely said while walking in front of me.

"Alright, please use this room and when we get you two processed, I will put your names on the door. Dinner is at 6pm so don't miss it, lights out at 8pm and breakfast is at 7am."

"Thank you miss." Was Yugito's reply as we walked through the door into our new room.

It was a small room with a wardrobe on the right wall with a mirror inside, and the left wall had 2 single beds split by a bedside drawer. It was quite nice for an orphanage in terms of furniture, but the walls were an ugly olive green with grey carpet throughout the whole room.

'I'm not going to hinder my potential anymore by trying to hide. I will survive and thrive in this ugly world' Were my thoughts as I laid down on the mattress and took a nap before dinner.
