Chapter 4 - M.I/R.C -vs-'68 Radium Roadrunner (Part One)

Nobel pulled the 1968 Plymouth Roadrunner into the ER entrance with his tires squealing as he came to a hard stop. Immediately, trauma teams took Phyllis and Stingray inside. However, just before they could remove Kerosene from the car, Kerosene pointed out the Riot vehicle, high-revving toward them at breakneck speeds. Nobel hard-shifted the nuclear-powered '68 Roadrunner into reverse and laid down a thick cloud and streak of burning rubber as he narrowly dodged the riot vehicle. He then drifted out of the hospital's parking lot, avoiding Cobra-Riot-Response Units as he shifted through the sequential transmission's cut gears. As the transmission grabbed each gear, the '68 Roadrunner was getting further and further away from the Riot Response Units, the hospital... but not Cobra Petrol's M.I/R.C.

Before Nobel could ask, Kerosene jumped into the front seat. With a grin, the auburn-haired, freckle-dotted twink put a cassette tape labeled in faded writing, "Gas, Gas, [illegible]," - R. Fusion, his father's cassette tape. As the song played and thumped the speakers, the nuclear-powered '68 Roadrunner roared onto the highway with the M.I/R.C in close pursuit. "All units, be advised: The CEO of Cobra Petrol, Crude Cobra, is in hot pursuit of an unidentified modified vehicle. Keep the exits blocked... Moron will run out of fuel before outrunning our Cobra." Advised Cobra Petrol's Dispatch.

As the two vehicles roared down the highway, Kerosene removed the now-played cassette tape and inserted one he'd been saving as a gift for Nobel's birthday. Its tape label read, "Remedy [drawn auburn-colored heart]". As the song began to play, Kerosene rolled down the window and launched fireworks at the M.I/R.C as Nobel shifted gears, downshifting and keeping the throttle pinned. The "Radium Roadrunner" took the highway's curves with ease, while Kerosene used fireworks to take down Cobra Petrol drones, and Nobel ran that modified classic at the hardest pace he'd ever run it. Mile markers were nothing but golden blurs as the "Radium Roadrunner's" speedometer needle climbed higher and higher. Nobel trusted his craftsmanship, occasionally glancing at the Roadrunner's reactor coolant temperature gauge as he shifted and kept the speedometer needle rising.

160... 166...170... 177... The "Radium Roadrunner's speedometer needle kept on climbing with fourth gear grabbed and the accelerator reset, then pushed down further... 185, 195, 205... As the speeding Roadrunner rounded a curve, Nobel couldn't keep the paint and the steel road guards from meeting. Sparks exploded from the contact, but Nobel kept the car on all four wheels. However, the much heavier and high-centered M.I/R.C didn't just scrap the road guards. Instead, it slammed through the road guards, rolled eight times before coming to a complete halt in a drainage ditch. Seeing the riot vehicle wreck, Nobel took the next exit, once again escaping Cobra thanks to his driving skills and Kerosene's firecracker marksmanship.

The duo took backroads to get back into the city and to the hospital. It would be a while before Crude Cobra was rescued from his prototype vehicle... hours later. However, as Nobel and Kerosene arrived at the hospital, they were slapped with the truth of their society...

Money and Corporations... will do anything to win and/or make a buck... No matter the cost...
