Aegwynn, who was at the Crusader's Stronghold researching the Dragon Soul and the Storm Altar, sensed the attack on the magical barrier she had placed on the Broken Isles to protect the Tomb of Sargeras. She brought her son and teleported directly from Kalimdor.
However, Aegwynn was surprised to find Galen and his group upon arrival.
Medivh had told his mother that he chose to help the Scarlet Crusade in Azeroth, to repay Galen for saving his soul. Through Medivh, Aegwynn considered Galen an ally.
Still, Aegwynn found the situation odd. She had seen the female orc riding a gryphon with her son before, and now, the way she looked at Medivh was... peculiar.
Galen signaled Medivh and Garona to talk privately. He wasn't interested in his subordinates' personal lives, so he hadn't inquired about Med'an's conception. Now that Garona was free from Gul'dan's control, it was time for them to settle their affairs.
Watching them head towards a distant reef, Aegwynn approached Galen . "Galen , what's between Medivh and that half-orc?"
Garrosh feigned surprise. "What? Ms. Aegwynn, didn't Medivh tell you he has a son?"
"Medivh has a son? With her?" Aegwynn was taken aback. Medivh had inherited his father Aran's title as Duke of Stormwind and was known as a playboy, indulging in extravagance.
King Llane and Sir Lothar, his childhood friends, already had teenage children, but she had never heard of Medivh fathering a bastard. Now, she learned she had a grandson.
This gave her an idea: to pass the power of the Guardian to her grandson.
The Guardian's power was a heavy burden, and it had nearly destroyed her own son. But with the Crusader's Stronghold as an ally, and with her and Medivh's guidance, her grandson wouldn't repeat Medivh's mistakes.
Aegwynn was also determined to rebuild the Council of Tirisfal. It had been destroyed because of her son, and she wanted it reborn under her grandson.
"Where is their child?" she asked.
"He's in Minas Tirith. You've met him!"
"Go'el?" Aegwynn thought of the orc with the same blood as Garona.
"No, it's Med'an," Garrosh corrected.
"Med'an!" Aegwynn was surprised, then relieved.
Given Garona's mixed heritage and Medivh's human blood, it made sense that Med'an would have multiple racial bloodlines.
Knowing Med'an was her grandson strengthened Aegwynn's resolve to pass on the Guardian's power. She preferred giving it to Med'an than to Khadgar, whom she disliked. Besides, she had seen Go'el and Med'an in Minas Tirith. Both were exceptionally talented, but Med'an's potential was even greater.
Aegwynn had marveled at where Galen had found these two prodigies, destined for greatness. She hadn't realized one was her own descendant.
As Aegwynn was about to speak, Galen noticed figures landing on the island from the southwest. He turned to look.
A translucent owl perched on a distant reef.
Then, a slender figure appeared beside it.
The figure, over two meters tall, wore black armor and an owl-shaped helmet. A dark green cloak, edged with crescent-shaped blades, billowed behind her.
She exuded an aura of gloom and coldness.
"Batman?" Garrosh blurted out.
"???" Aegwynn looked puzzled.
"It's the Night Elf Warden Corps. She's likely their leader, Maiev Shadowsong."
As Aegwynn spoke, more Wardens materialized, surrounding them in a semi-circle.
Garrosh had only Gandalf and ten Royal Guards.
He suddenly remembered Zasj and the others, still making their way across the reef. The Wardens were notoriously ruthless, especially towards the naga, their ancient enemies.
Garrosh didn't want to lose his naga forces or Zasj.
He telepathically contacted Gandalf. Old man, teleport over and take them away. Don't let them clash!
Gandalf understood and vanished in a flash of white light.
This move alerted the Wardens. They raised their moon blades, ready to attack.
Aegwynn stepped forward, allowing them to see her face. Her centuries as a Guardian had earned her both power and connections.
The leader of the Wardens, the first to arrive, signaled her subordinates to stand down. Her ancient armor bore the marks of countless battles.
"Aegwynn, it's you. What happened here? We sensed abnormal fel energy at the Warden's Vault and suspected an invasion of the Tomb. I came to investigate," Maiev Shadowsong said in a cold, emotionless voice.
"Nothing serious. Some evil forces tried to invade the Tomb of Sargeras, but we dealt with them," Aegwynn replied casually. The battle was over by the time she arrived, but the demon corpses told her the story.
Maiev noticed the demon corpses. Her eyes filled with disgust and hatred. Over millennia, she had slain countless demons. The Wardens' purpose was to protect Azeroth from the Burning Legion.
Their mission was similar to the Council of Tirisfal, so Maiev and Aegwynn had interacted before. Aegwynn had even placed the Tomb of Sargeras near the Warden's Vault, perhaps seeking their protection.
However, their conversation suggested a strained relationship.
