Chapter 5 - Chapter 2 - The Northern Temple (2)

Here lies the Blade of the Great Dragon Khaos, placed here to rest after her death, to one day be discovered and wielded by the successors of her power.

"Huh?" Said Anthony in surprise. "Wait, you can read that?"

Yeah? You can't?

"No? It's not english, I've never even seen stuff like that," Answered Anthony, puzzled. "How can you read that?"

I don't really know I just can.

"Well what do you think we should do?" Anthony asked, as he crouched down, moving his inspection from the inscription back to the sword. "Should I just pull it out?"

Haha usually guy's aren't so eager to pull their swords out, good on you.

"What?" Anthony said, scrunching up his face in confusion.

Uhhh, I mean, nevermind, just a joke for myself, you wouldn't get it.

"Huh, oh, okay," Anthony responded, moving his mind back to the blade before him. He stood, gripping the sword's hilt with both hands. He thrusted upwards, over and over, attempting to remove the sword from the ground, but it would not budge.

Woah, I guess you couldn't pull out in the end. It's okay kid, every young man goes through this at least once.

"What are you talking about?" Anthony asked as he relinquished the sword to place his hands on his hips in confusion.

I'm sorry, that's my fault, I just, never mind, I'll stop.

"Okay? How about you just help me out or something?"

How am I supposed to help you out? I'm just a disembodied voice.

"I don't know, maybe think of something? Like how do we get this sword out? How do we not die out here? How do I get home to my family?!"

Hey, hey, I'm sorry.

"Just- How are you just joking around?" Anthony demanded, exasperated. "We don't know where we are. We're in a weird ancient temple. We don't have time to be joking around."

Hey, it's okay, let me try to figure this out. We'll figure this out. Maybe you should try imbuing the sword with your magic then try lifting it out?

"What? Why? How would I even do that?" Anthony asked.

Well, I'm just thinking, you know how your weird magic kinda emits golden light?

"No? Not really? The only time I used it my eyes were closed or you were in control of my body?"

Okay, well it is, just trust me on that. But all the decorations are a very similar color. Plus, didn't this place feel oddly familiar when we were coming in?

"Wait, you're right, it did kind of feel familiar," Anthony said as he lowered his head, holding his chin in pensive consideration. "And I've never seen anyone doing magic like mine."

Right, so your magic is super unique and I've been thinking this place might be connected to your magic and that's why we were brought here.

"Okay, yeah, so if I pour my magic into the sword it might recognize me or something and loosen up? Maybe?" Anthony said with a bit of uncertainty.

Nothing else to do but try, Nate said with a hopeful tone. Do you know how to do that? If you just gather-

"Yeah yeah, gather my mana and then pour it into the sword right? I did do some magic before I, uh, ya know," Anthony said, beginning with an excited certainty but tailing off towards the end. He gripped the hilt of the sword in front of him, just like before. He closed his eyes and furrowed his brow in concentration. "I just- just gotta-"

Yeah, focus up, find your-

"Shhh," Anthony interrupted. "I need to concentrate."

Anthony breathed out entering intense focus. For the first time since discovering his magic, he looked inside himself and found the familiar energy that flowed within. It felt easy, like his body was more used to the mana than before.

He could feel each particle, not just the conglomeration, this time he noticed how they hummed, vibrating with excitation. A slight grin appeared on Anthony's face as he circulated the mana through his body, emitting power like it came to him naturally.

He began to guide his mana, pouring it into the blade of the Great Dragon. As mana circulated through the blade, the same mana seemed to spread throughout the floor of the temple from the blade of the sword.

The temple began to come to life, majestic golden particles rising up from the floor shining light in every shaded corner as Anthony kept his shut tight in intense focus. He tightened his grip on the hilt as he focused his energy to his legs.

He grunted as he propelled all of his power upwards to rip the blade out of the ground. He pulled and pulled until he finally felt a slight click then it all came at once as Anthony lifted the sword from the temple's floor. It felt heavy at first but within seconds it mysteriously lightened up until the hilt felt so natural in his right hand.

Holy shit, Nate said as Anthony gazed at the sword in his hand with an excited grin plastered on his face. Looking at the blade for the first time he examined the peculiar steel from which it was made.

The majority was a light silver color but the alloy was filled with waves of coloration similar to the gold that covered the temple. It was a beautiful blade, shining from the golden light that now consumed the entire temple.

He lifted it up, gazing at the dark black hilt, cross laced with hard leather. Like most swords the handle had guards protruding on each side but embedded in the center was a gold, diamond-shaped crystal, one large enough to show through on each side.

This is crazy, Nate continued in exasperation.

"I know," Anthony said, as if in a dreamlike trance, waving and swinging his blade in front of him, the bright floating lights floating out of the blade's arc as it danced. Anthony focused himself, reeling back, taking the hilt in both hands above his head, then he swung forward striking downwards with determination and force.

He breathed heavily, his chest puffing up and down with excitement as he admired the blade he now carried. "This is crazy."

But do you even know how crazy this is? The sword shrank to fit you, it matches you perfectly. How the hell did it even do that?

"Dunno," Anthony shrugged, keeping his focus on the sword.

Hey I got an idea, try imbuing your mana into the sword then doing a horizontal strike.

As if in immediate comprehension Anthony planted his feet and grasped his sword, holding it to the side. He and the blade began to radiate a light golden aura and then Anthony swung with swiftness. A glowing arc was expelled from the blade at an incredible speed, making a gash in a distant pillar of which it collided.

"Woah," Anthony muttered, finally resting his blade at his side.

You did it kid.

"I can get home with this, I can survive," Anthony declared.

There are a lot of dangerous out there Anthony. You may have this amazing power but we can't do anything with it if you don't know how to use it.

"Okay then how do we figure out how to use it?" Anthony asked with quick and excited determination.

That's where I come in, I may not have a body or really any memories but I know how to use magic and I know how to use a sword. Nate said with a sharp emphasis on each 'I know.' I'm gonna teach you how to develop your magic and your swordsmanship, I'm going to teach you how to use both together to fight!

"Yes!" Anthony shouted in agreement. "I need to get stronger, we're gonna do this."

Okay, so, tomorrow-

"No time, right now," Anthony concluded, turning towards open space to begin his training.

Wait! Anthony! Nate shouted trying to alert Anthony, but before Anthony could even take his second step he felt his legs falter under his weight. He hadn't realized how tired he was, Anthony's strength began to give out on him and he faded out of consciousness as he fell to the ground and his sword clattered on the floor.
