Chapter 7 - MYSTERY MESSAGE

LANA'S POV

PRESENT

The morning came like a rushing wind. The sun was already up and the birds sang their songs as they danced in the morning sunlight. At least someone else was happy this morning

This morning I didn't feel like getting up from bed. I wanted to crawl under the sheets and pretend that my world wasn't slowly crumbling down. I wanted to stay in bed, hopefully at some point Eva would walk through those doors and she would drag me out of bed, telling me to go out there and make the best of the littles moments that life would present me.

I wanted to stay in bed and sleep but my grumbling stomach had other plans. I pushed myself up, my hair was a mess and my eyes felt heavy from crying all through the night.

As I walked out of the room and into the living space, I was greeted by the savoury smell of eggs and toast and freshly brewed coffee

"You're finally up" I heard Xavier say as the toaster dinged, popping out the bread

"What's going on?" I asked groggily, still unsure on how to interpret what I was seeing

I could still be dreaming

"What does it look like?" Xavier asked, wearing his best smile "I made us breakfast"

I took my place on an empty seat on the dining table, watching as he served me from the platter he had already made before handing me the cup of coffee. It smelt divine but I wasn't about to let him see me look satisfied

"Dig in" He said with a smile on his face

I hesitated, staring at the meal in front of me. The man who killed my sister made me breakfast, knowing so damn well that I know that he killed her. My eyes switched between him and the meal be placed in front of me and I guess he caught on to what was on my mind

He grabbed a fork, lightly stabbing into the eggs on my plate before lifting it to his lips "I didn't poison your meal. I'm not trying to kill you" He said putting the eggs in his mouth, chewing it in front of me

He switched the plates of toast as well taking little bites from each slice and then he took a sip from my cup of coffee

"Alright, fine. I get it" I said, taking slow bites from the bread and eggs "Thank you for the meal" I mumbled

"You're welcome" He responded as we ate our breakfast in silence

When we're done eating, he packed the plates stacking them on the kitchen sink, grabbing the rubber gloves as he prepared to do the dishes

"I'll do it" I said pushing up from my seat

"That's fine" He responded still wearing that smile on his face

I walked towards the sink, grabbing the gloves from his hand "I insist. It's the least I can do after you went through the stress of making breakfast"

"We'll do it together then" He offered. I only accepted his offer because I knew he wouldn't let me do it by myself

Playing modest with blood on his hands. His false display of innocence made my skin crawl so bad but I needed to keep the act up, to keep my walls up so he doesn't see right through me

"Okay" I said

We spent about fifteen minutes taking care of the dishes, neither saying a word to the other till we were done. I pulled off the gloves, placing them on the skin before heading towards the bathroom

"Thank you for coming over" I heard him say, stopping me on my tracks "I know you're here to escape living alone in that big house, but somehow your presence here makes living here a little better, it makes me feel a lot better actually"

"You don't have to thank me" I said, turning around to face him and our eyes met. He still had a smile on his face but he looked more hurt, he looked… sincere

"I don't know what happened to Eva. I don't know who killed her but I promise you I will find out and I will make them pay" He vowed and I could hear the hurt in his voice

Yet again, he displays that false sense of justice.

"I know it's not your fault. I don't hold her death against you anymore" I lied

"I need you to believe me Lana. I need you to trust me" He said taking a step closer to me

I raised a palm stopping him in his tracks before taking a step back "You don't need to do anything. It's going to take a while for me to trust you fully. So don't try to force trust"

"I know. I'm sorry. I didn't mean to seem impulsive" Be apologized taking a step back as he ran his hand through his hair

"We'll figure it out" I took a deep breath "together"

His eyes lit up at the sound of those words and his smile returned. He wiped at his eyes as he sighed in relief "Alright"

"Yeah" I said, turning on my heels before heading into the bedroom, locking the door behind me

I walked out of the bathroom, a towel around my chest and one wrapped around my hair. I felt rather refreshed after taking a steaming and relaxing shower. I slipped into a pair of track pants and a t-shirt I stole from Nathaniel the day I saw him after so long.

My face flushed from embarrassment as the memories of our "encounter" back at his hotel room crossed my mind. We were at it like rabbits in heat and I won't lie, I missed having his cock inside me

My phone buzzed beside me pulling me out of my erotic mental replay. I picked it up, my eyes went wide as I read the message on the screen

"Xavier isn't as innocent as he pretends to be"
