Chapter 77 - I Can't Believe I Can't Lift My Hammer!

"Do you really know who I am?"

Thor calmed down when he heard Nick Fury. He stopped struggling and eyed Nick Fury suspiciously.

Ever since he'd landed on Earth, he'd told countless people his identity, but no one had ever believed him.

Everyone just thought he was crazy.

So, Thor wasn't holding out much hope.

"Of course. You are the son of Odin, Thor, the God of Thunder from Asgard!" Nick Fury stated firmly. "And you have a brother named Loki, right?"

"Loki! You even know about Loki! Excellent, it seems you are the most intelligent person on this planet!"

Thor laughed happily, tears practically welling up in his eyes. "Especially since you only have one eye, it makes me feel very close to you."

Nick Fury: "..."

Can we not bring that up! And what the hell is this about Thor feeling close to me because of my one eye!

"Natasha."

Nick Fury didn't bother arguing with Thor, a man of action but little thought, and gave the Black Widow a look.

Black Widow immediately understood and went over to release the Thunder God from his restraints.

"Thank you." Thor said, stretching his limbs while thanking Black Widow and the others.

"Thor, why were you tied up here? You're a god, and you couldn't even break free from this?"

Iron Man couldn't help but ask from the side.

"Nick Fury, who is he?"

"Tony Stark." Iron Man announced his name, adding, "Possibly the most intelligent person on this planet."

"Is that so?" Thor expressed strong doubt. "You don't seem as smart as Nick Fury."

Iron Man: "..."

It seemed their previous assessment was spot on; Thor's head was truly full of muscle.

"Listen, Nick Fury, Stark, I'm grateful you saved me, but I must go now. I've lost my hammer, and I must find it immediately."

Thor then said anxiously to Nick Fury and the others, and was about to push the door open to go out and search for his hammer.

"Thor, we've found your hammer," Nick Fury said from behind Thor.

"Is that true?" Thor was both surprised and delighted, a smile spreading across his face. "Nick Fury, I knew I was right. You truly are the wisest."

"Please wait here for a moment," Nick Fury said to Thor, then pulled out his phone and contacted Coulson.

He learned that Coulson's team had already secured the scene and established a complete lockdown.

"Let's go, Thor. We're going to get your hammer back!" Nick Fury said to Thor.

Thirty minutes later.

The group was now on the outskirts of the town, southeast of the town, where a cordon had been set up. Many S.H.I.E.L.D. agents were stationed there, preventing anyone from getting close.

Many townspeople were watching from a distance, pointing and chattering, increasingly curious about what the hammer that no one could lift actually was.

"Director!"

Coulson was already waiting on the road. After meeting up with Nick Fury and the others, he began leading the way, briefing them on the situation.

"Nick Fury, you sent people to protect my hammer? I'm truly grateful," Thor said, seeing S.H.I.E.L.D.'s setup and expressing his gratitude. "But it's not really necessary. No one can lift this hammer except me."

"Really? As far as I know, there's at least one person on Earth who has lifted your hammer," Iron Man interjected, quite inappropriately.

The scene from the final battle, where Captain Rogers wielded both the hammer and the shield, unleashing a series of attacks that brutalized Thanos, had left a deep impression on Iron Man.

"Impossible! That's absolutely impossible!" Thor shook his head resolutely, utterly disbelieving. "No one can lift it except me!"

"Thor, as far as I know, there is indeed one person on Earth who can lift your hammer, and even summon lightning with it."

Nick Fury also solemnly agreed with Iron Man.

"Oh really? Where is he? I'd really like to see him," Thor laughed, like an innocent child, clearly not believing it.

The group chatted as Coulson led them through the blockade, arriving in front of the hammer "stuck" in the ground.

"Excuse me, can I try first?" Iron Man looked eager.

"Of course, go ahead and try! Try as much as you like!" Thor shrugged, gesturing towards Iron Man. "It's all futile anyway."

Iron Man didn't hesitate, walking over to Mjolnir, grabbing it with both hands, and using all his strength to pull it up.

But the small hammer seemed to weigh a thousand pounds, unmoving.

"See? None of you are worthy!" Thor walked over to Mjolnir with a smile, casually placing a hand on it. "Only I can..."

At this point, the smile on Thor's face froze. Because with his casual grab and lift, the hammer remained stubbornly in place.

Unmoved!

The atmosphere on the scene started to get a little awkward.

Thor had just finished saying that only he could lift the hammer, and the hammer immediately slapped him in the face.

"Only I can!"

"Only I!"

"Only I!"

After Thor failed with one hand, he gripped the hammer with both hands, exerting all his strength. His face was flushed red, but he still couldn't budge the hammer even a little bit.

Even if everyone's eyes were closed, they could see that Thor couldn't actually lift Mjolnir.

"Thor, can't you lift your hammer either?" Nick Fury couldn't help but frown. This development was not what he'd expected.

"Why!"

"Father, why!"

Thor was devastated, as if he hadn't heard Nick Fury at all. He just stared at the sky and roared in despair.

"Sir, what do we do next?" Coulson ran over to ask Nick Fury for his opinion.

"Continue to cordon off the scene. Don't let anyone approach," Nick Fury considered for a moment before giving the order. "Also, contact Captain Rogers. Get him here quickly to see if he can lift the hammer."

"If he can, have the Captain take the hammer back to S.H.I.E.L.D. We can't just leave it here."

"Understood, sir!" Coulson responded and immediately began carrying out Nick Fury's orders.

Nick Fury temporarily brought the dejected Thor to a place in the town to settle down.

From beginning to end, Thor looked listless, as if he'd been dumped.
