Chapter 15 - Chapter 15: The Final Preparations

The morning air was crisp as Luma and Ion emerged from the forest, their destination drawing nearer. The Gates of Praxis loomed in the distance, towering over the land like the last remnants of a forgotten age. The journey had been long, but they were almost there.

They had left Lira's hut a day before, after receiving a series of valuable tools and information that Ion knew they'd need for what lay ahead. Now, with only a few miles between them and the gates, they made their way toward their next challenge.

"You're quiet," Ion remarked, glancing over at Luma, who walked silently beside him, her face thoughtful.

"I'm just… trying to process everything," she replied. "It's a lot to take in."

Ion nodded in understanding. "It is. But we don't have time to dwell. There are things that need to be done. And you're ready for it."

Luma gave him a small, uncertain smile. "I hope so."

Ion chuckled softly. "You've been learning faster than I expected. But there's one more thing you need before we continue."

Luma turned to him, raising an eyebrow. "What do you mean?"

Ion stopped walking and motioned for her to follow him. They moved off the path toward a small outcrop where he had hidden something beneath the underbrush. He knelt and pulled out a small, carefully wrapped bundle.

Luma's eyes widened. "What is that?"

Ion unwrapped the bundle to reveal a delicate metal disc with intricate carvings along its surface. "It's a Focus Crystal. Lira gave it to us—she said you'd need it."

He handed it to her, and she held it cautiously, examining the strange, glowing patterns that pulsed softly in the crystal's heart. "What does it do?"

"It amplifies your connection to the Bridge of Laws," Ion explained. "When you're facing a particularly difficult situation, it'll help you focus and direct your energy more precisely. Without it, you might find yourself overwhelmed by the forces at play."

Luma nodded, slipping the crystal into a pouch at her belt. "I understand."

Ion's gaze grew serious. "The road ahead won't be easy. And the Masters of Entropy won't just sit idly by while we approach the gates. Saren will be expecting us. He'll send others after us, too."

Luma frowned. "Saren?"

Ion looked at her, his eyes steely. "Saren isn't just the red-hooded man you saw before. He was once one of the highest minds in the Tower. But after the fall, he became obsessed with entropy—unraveling the laws of the universe. He and his followers want to see everything broken apart, piece by piece."

Luma's hands clenched at her sides. "I still don't understand. Why does he want to break everything?"

Ion paused. "Because he believes that the laws we follow are chains, holding humanity back from true freedom. He wants to remake the world in his image—a place where entropy reigns supreme. Where chaos is the only truth."

Luma shook her head, the weight of it all sinking in. "But… how does that help anyone?"

Ion let out a short, humorless laugh. "It doesn't. That's the irony. Saren believes that in chaos, there's ultimate freedom. But in truth, there's only destruction."

They stood in silence for a moment, the gravity of their mission settling between them.

Ion finally spoke again, his voice softening. "But we're not alone. We have each other. And we have what we've learned. And now, we have this." He gestured toward the crystal.

Luma nodded, feeling the crystal's weight in her hand. It wasn't just a tool. It was a symbol—a promise that they could stand against the forces of entropy, no matter how powerful they seemed.

Just then, a gust of wind swept through the trees, bringing with it a sense of urgency. Ion's eyes narrowed, and he gripped his staff tighter. "We're getting close. Keep your guard up."

As they resumed their journey, Ion continued to speak, his tone grave. "The Masters of Entropy aren't just about destruction. They're about control. They want to rewrite the laws of reality itself. They'll try to manipulate time, space, even energy itself. The Bridge of Laws is the key to stopping them. But we need to reach it first."

Luma looked at him, her brow furrowed. "You said the gates are where the laws of reality were written. Does that mean we can change things there? Undo what's been done?"

Ion stopped walking and turned to face her. "In theory, yes. But there's a price. The laws of physics aren't just tools—they're the foundation of everything. If you try to change them too drastically, the balance is lost. And once it's gone, it's almost impossible to restore."

Luma looked down at the crystal in her hand, feeling its cool surface. The weight of their journey was starting to feel all too real.

After a moment, Ion continued. "That's why you'll need to be careful. The path ahead isn't just about defeating Saren or his followers. It's about making sure you don't lose sight of the laws you've learned. Don't let the desire for victory cloud your judgment."

Luma nodded, understanding the gravity of his words. "I won't forget."

The two of them continued on in silence, the looming gates now within sight. As the day wore on, the terrain grew more treacherous. They could see the faint outline of the stone archway—towering and unyielding—now just a few miles ahead.

But as they drew closer, the landscape seemed to shift, the air thick with anticipation.

And then, two days later, they finally reached the gates.

The Gates of Praxis stood tall before them, massive and ancient, the stone worn smooth by centuries of wind and rain. The carvings that lined the gates seemed to pulse with a strange energy, a hum that vibrated in Luma's chest as she stepped forward.

Ion stood beside her, his eyes focused on the gates. "This is it. The beginning of the end."

Luma took a deep breath. "Are we ready?"

Ion's hand rested on her shoulder, steady and reassuring. "We will be. Together."
