Chapter 44 - Chapter 44: Consuming Another Immortal Herb

Li Xun chuckled and stored the Snow Swan Kiss into his Soul Guiding Device. "Not only is the poison in your body not completely cleared, but even my seemingly healthy body has toxins lurking within."

"If even a trace of pollen triggers the toxins in your body, immediate death would be a mercy."

Dugu Bo looked at him with a mix of doubt and suspicion. He found it hard to believe, but he also felt that Li Xun had no reason to deceive him.

"Don't doubt me. I'll keep this Immortal Herb with me for now. When the opportunity arises, I'll conduct an experiment for you."

After some thought, Dugu Bo reluctantly nodded.

Based on his past experiences at the Yin Yang Well, he figured it might be better to leave it with Li Xun. If it were in his own hands, he would undoubtedly be tempted to study it out of curiosity.

If something went wrong...

"Alright, that's all I can recognize for now."

"But don't worry, the book-hunting mission I've issued is still ongoing. As I gather more pharmacopoeias, I'll be able to identify more Immortal Herbs. When that time comes, I'll help you identify them."

Li Xun grinned mischievously at Dugu Bo.

By now, the old poison master, who was over eighty years old, could no longer control his expression.

"You brat, I think you're just trying to make a fool out of me!" Dugu Bo sneered, rolling up his sleeves and slowly advancing toward Li Xun.

Oh no!

Li Xun was startled and immediately used the Body Flicker Technique to create distance. "I'm done, I'm done! Grandpa Dugu, your poison hasn't been fully cleared yet. Don't get too worked up."

"Hmph, I've lived this long without any issues. What's one more day?" Dugu Bo snorted coldly. "Today, I'm going to teach you a proper lesson."

Seeing this, Li Xun didn't dare to stay. He quickly dashed toward the Yin Yang Well.

"If you're so capable, why don't you just stay in the water?" Dugu Bo stood on the shore with a half-smile, though inwardly he was shocked.

He noticed that Li Xun wasn't using any Soul Skills or Soul Bones, yet he was able to stand on the water's surface.

This was something that even those below the Title Douluo level couldn't achieve. Now, he was eager to see what other surprises Li Xun had in store.

"I was wrong," Li Xun quickly admitted, lowering his head in submission. He had accidentally gone too far and hurt the old poison master's pride. It seemed he'd have to wait for Dugu Bo's anger to subside.

"Just admitting your mistake isn't enough."

Dugu Bo shook his head with a smile and turned to walk toward the outer edge of the Yin Yang Well, keeping an eye on the situation behind him.

Seeing Dugu Bo walk away, Li Xun didn't dare to come ashore.

He was afraid the old man was setting a trap.

He had fallen for such tricks as a child. His parents would always say they wouldn't punish him when they got home, only to punish him even more severely once they did.

"I'll just have to wait for the old poison master to cool down," Li Xun thought with a smile. "In the meantime, why not consume another Immortal Herb?"

He took out the Marvelous Velvet Sky-Reaching Chrysanthemum from his Soul Guiding Device. This was the one he had carefully selected.

The Lovesick Heartbreak Red was out of the question—he definitely couldn't harvest it.

He wasn't sure if his Martial Soul could evolve, so he decided to leave the Qiluo Tulip alone.

The Autumn Water Piercing Dew was for enhancing eye techniques. If he had something like the Sharingan, Byakugan, or Rinnegan, he would have chosen it.

The Cockscomb Phoenix Sunflower had some use, but this Immortal Herb was extremely yang-aligned and focused on purging impurities from the Martial Soul. He didn't think his Martial Soul had any issues in that regard.

So he dismissed it outright.

The Eight-Petal Immortal Orchid had long-lasting effects, but they were too slow for Li Xun's current situation.

After all, his Spirit Rings were designed for late-stage power. He couldn't rely solely on the future—that would make the early stages too frustrating.

Cultivating Spiritual Energy wasn't as complex as the circulation paths of the Taoist Mysterious Heavenly Skill. Consuming the Narcissus Jade Bone to unblock meridians seemed somewhat wasteful.

After much deliberation, Li Xun concluded that the Marvelous Velvet Sky-Reaching Chrysanthemum would provide the most significant boost.

"After consumption, it circulates qi through the limbs and blood through the eight meridians, enabling the practice of an indestructible body," Li Xun mused, holding the velvety chrysanthemum in his hand. "Its effects align well with those of the Fierce Fire Apricot Delicate Frond and the Eight-Horned Mystic Ice Herb."

Without further hesitation, he devoured the flower's heart in one bite, followed by each petal one by one.

He then tossed his clothes and Soul Guiding Device onto the shore and plunged into the water.

The Marvelous Velvet Sky-Reaching Chrysanthemum's effects were far more potent than the gentle assistance of the Autumn Water Piercing Dew. Li Xun intended to forcibly absorb its medicinal properties with the aid of the Yin Yang Well.

From a distance, Dugu Bo heard the splash and chuckled, shaking his head. He took out a Foundation Solidifying Detoxification Pill and swallowed it directly.

Although the Marvelous Velvet Sky-Reaching Chrysanthemum's effects were potent, they paled in comparison to the Eight-Horned Mystic Ice Herb and the Fierce Fire Apricot Delicate Frond. Li Xun's slight discomfort stemmed from the short interval between consuming the two Immortal Herbs.

Fortunately, he was in the Yin Yang Well and possessed the self-healing ability of Wood Release, so there was no real danger.

The Spiritual Energy and Soul Power within his body accelerated their fusion once again under the stimulation of the Immortal Herbs.

Now, all that was needed was a catalyst for these two forces to become completely inseparable.

Feeling the medicinal properties fully absorbed, Li Xun suddenly opened his eyes, sensing the surging vitality in his body. With a swift movement, he leaped out of the water.

"My Soul Power has reached level thirty," he declared.

Li Xun assessed his internal Soul Power: "There should still be latent Soul Power that will only manifest when I obtain a Spirit Ring."

When a Soul Master's level reaches its limit, excess Soul Power remains hidden within the body until a Spirit Ring is acquired.

Only after obtaining a Spirit Ring does the excess Soul Power become apparent.

"I wonder how much time has passed and if the old poisoner's anger has subsided," Li Xun thought as he changed his clothes and headed towards the outskirts.

Before he could reach the outskirts, he ran into Dugu Bo.

Perhaps due to the detoxification process, Dugu Bo's hair was no longer as sickly green.

"Kid, are you that scared? Hiding in the water for a whole day," Dugu Bo scoffed.

"I wasn't hiding from you!" Li Xun chuckled. "The medicinal properties of the Immortal Herb lingered, so I used the Yin Yang Well to break through."

Dugu Bo was taken aback and carefully sensed the fluctuations of Li Xun's Soul Power.

"You've reached level thirty!" Dugu Bo's eyes narrowed.

"Just luck, just luck. It's all thanks to the Immortal Herbs here, or I wouldn't have reached Soul Grandmaster so quickly," Li Xun grinned.

"Good kid, then you must be the fastest Soul Master on the continent to break through to Soul Grandmaster!" Dugu Bo exclaimed.

"Probably, haha," Li Xun laughed, not daring to confirm.

He knew that the fastest to reach Soul Grandmaster should be Qian Renxue.

With her divine Martial Soul, she awakened with twenty levels of Soul Power at the age of six. Even if she went undercover in the Heavenly Dou royal family at nine, those three years would have been enough for her to reach level thirty.

The reason Qian Renxue's Soul Power wasn't higher later was due to her undercover mission.

Hmph! She didn't achieve much from it and even delayed her cultivation.

Li Xun silently criticized.

"If it is, then it is. No need for 'probably,'" Dugu Bo laughed, shaking his head.

Li Xun was sometimes overly modest, but Dugu Bo quite liked this trait about him.

"Have you decided which Soul Beast to choose for your Spirit Ring?"

Dugu Bo stroked his chin thoughtfully: "If you have, I can take you to hunt it down. We're already in the Sunset

Forest, after all."

"Then I'll trouble you, Grandfather Dugu

."

Li Xun clasped his fists respectfully: "For my third Spirit Ring, I need an Azure Vine around five thousand years old."
