It was unfamiliar yet I could strangely comprehend the engraved magic the original owner had commissioned from Maya, the genius magician of the Hero Academy… and the esteemed disciple of the Magic Tower of Infinitum.
Seeing this, it only meant one thing: if I were to connect my current predicament to the original story – Lugh planned to escape whether his attempt to sexually assault the Imperial Princess failed or succeeded.
However, the commission based on Maya's words begs a certain question.
'But why did he kill himself in the process? Fuck!'
As I cursed in my mind, I hurriedly infused my mana into the intricately manufactured scroll I opened. It was an instinctive act, believing that it would work.
It was then that something deep within my soul seemed to illuminate my entire body, albeit momentarily. A combination of dark and amethyst-hued mana then manifested from my grasp, which then extended and enveloped the brown-colored scroll.
'Is this the mana color of a plunderer?' I muttered.
The engraved runes in the scroll gradually shone, tracing from one point to one end until everything was lit like a translucent puzzle. It happened in less than two seconds, causing my first attempt to save my new life…
[You have used a Scroll of Teleportation.]
[Teleportation… Failed!]
At least that's what I thought… until I saw a 'system window' that warned me of my impending doom.
"Motherfucker!"
Shit! Shit, what now?!
I involuntarily swallowed my saliva.
The footsteps and the noise outside were becoming prevalent.
[Ding!]
[An interference magic nearby disrupts any mobility-related spells.]
[Ding!]
[Would you like to inspect your current plundered talents?]
'That would be convenient.'
Seeing two talents in my arsenal, though the chances of escaping just dropped from 100% to almost impossible, at least all hope was not lost.
I looked around my dorm room. Even though I knew that this interference magic was cast from the outside, I tried to look for anything that might be of help to escape this soon-to-be hellish place.
There were two certain things in my current situation – (1) If I failed to escape, I would be executed, and if I somehow managed to do so, (2) I would be hunted throughout the Holy Empire for the rest of the days.
Although both options were a no-no, I would still choose the latter.
"Where's student Lugh's room?!"
"That spawn of demon shall die!"
"Where?!"
It was at that moment that the maddened voices of the imperial knights echoed in my ears, as well as the terrified students from the sudden queries that were out of place in the middle of the night.
They were a few steps away from reaching for my blood and soul.
Without an alternative, I glanced through the window.
Damn it. Why's this bastard in this luxurious dorm room on the upper floors!?
Quickly grabbing a blanket on my bed, I looked for and found something where to tie its one end. My face was filled with beads of sweat amidst chilling winds, and my heart's beating became unstable.
Military-style knot. After I finished tying it, even if the length was not enough, I did not hesitate to jump from the window down to the ground.
Almost at the same time, something burst through my dorm room's door. No knocks at all, unlike Maya's polite visit.
Thud!
Because of my poor landing, I broke a few bones.
It was heard by the imperial knights who just entered my room, prompting them to check the window.
"Where are you running, boy?"
"You think you can escape?!"
"How dare you humiliate the Imperial Princess?! You deserve something worse than death!"
I couldn't care less about the obvious, but presuming that death was mercy, I needed to urgently leave this place at all costs.
I groaned, and bit my lips from excruciating pain, seeing my feet being twisted from the fall.
It was a gruesome and nausea-inducing sight to behold.
[Ding!]
[Passive Talent: Emergency Self-Healing has been activated!]
[Your injuries have been instantly healed!]
One of the only two plundered talents the original owner possessed for some reason was this one. Although I didn't know why, I couldn't care less at the moment.
[Because of the severity of the injuries, 80% of the current mana has been consumed.]
I sensed a massive amount of mana depleting from my soul; it was mentally exhausting.
[Emergency Self-Healing will undergo a cooldown of 24 hours.]
That message was something I already ignored as I raised my body and ran as fast as I could… anywhere, just one meter and so farther from this damn academy!
'Damn it! I couldn't activate the other talent because of the interference magic!'
However, unlike my fragile self, the imperial knights jumped from the window of my soon-to-be former dorm room.
To easily describe them, they were not the average knights… not fodders of wars, but superhumans that transcended what it meant to be ordinary.
Thanks to holiness… thanks to the blessing of the Goddess of Light.
One of the imperial knights landed, causing a shockwave to destroy nearby windows.
Even a small crack in the ground was formed, and as I looked back for a moment, chills ran down my spine.
It was a female imperial knight.
No. Not just an imperial knight, but a royal one.
Her eyes were shining golden; in her grasp was an immaterial spear made of scorching light.
"I will die…" I muttered, my tone helpless. Based on the form of attack, I was wrong to think that torture was on the table. No, it was my total obliteration.
On second thought, existential questions flashed into my mind.
Was it even wrong for me to die here?
Wouldn't it be better for me?
First of all, I didn't have any attachments to this world.
No one would cry, and even in death, the original owner of this body would be remembered for his filthiness.
Was it even worth living?
'Yes, maybe this is for the better.'
What if this was just a mere dream? After this, I would wake up in the hospital with my battered body.
Or what if the truck didn't really hit me? Just stopped in front of me and I fainted from shock?
With these nerve-wracking questions, I slowed down my pace.
And as I was about to close my eyes…
[Ding!]
[Someone has destroyed the interference magic in the area.]
[Any mobility-related spells can now be used.]
After skimming through the system window, I heard a voice inside my head.
It was a familiar one; I wouldn't forget.
< Don't you dare die here, motherfucker! Run, run! >
Whoosh!
In that split second, I managed to activate the Scroll of Teleportation.
I thought I already surrendered to death.
I didn't know why I'm doing this.
The magic scroll eventually disintegrated from my hand, and a magic circle simultaneously formed underneath my feet.
It gradually consumed me to nothingness.
However, as something tore through the wind…
Bang!
I gurgled a mouthful of blood.
And the next thing I knew…
Was that my abdomen already vanished.
It was replaced by a gaping hole.
