Chapter 10 - Chapter 10: The Forceful Herbert

Coercing Furina was a last resort, as she is too weak and easily compromised in many ways.

The newly established West Factory possesses power above the Fontaine executive branch, which will inevitably be opposed by the old nobles and Neuvillette.

Therefore, he had to force her to do it, to make her execute it forcefully.

As Lin Yide walked out of the Palais Mermonia, the warm sunlight fell on him, and his mood became light and joyful.

However, this good mood did not last long.

A team of neatly uniformed Special Security officers suddenly appeared in front of Lin Yide.

Leading them was a tall, young man with a gloomy face, whose eyebrows resembled Brant's, as if the blood of the same family continued. His demeanor revealed the arrogance unique to aristocratic families.

"Yide, the Special Security has some things they need to ask you about. Please cooperate," he said in a cold tone.

Lin Yide's expression was calm as he responded indifferently, "I don't have time, Captain Herbert."

"How dare you! You dare refuse the Special Security's inquiry!" a Special Security officer behind Herbert roared.

Lin Yide glanced at him contemptuously and mocked, "If the Special Security is full of trash like you, then the Special Security should have been thrown into the garbage a long time ago."

The Special Security officer wanted to say something, but Herbert interrupted him with a cold shout, "Enough!"

Herbert slowly walked up to Lin Yide, the distance between them less than a meter.

He stared intently into Lin Yide's eyes and said in a deep voice, "Yide, you should understand that in Fontaine, there is nothing the Special Security cannot do.

If you don't want to suffer unnecessary pain, then you better come with us obediently."

Faced with Herbert's threat, Lin Yide simply picked his ear dismissively and sneered, "Herbert, you talk too much nonsense. This makes me even more certain of one thing—the Lannis family, men and women, are all a bunch of trash."

Herbert was enraged. He took out a gun from his pocket and aimed it at Lin Yide's head, roaring, "Do you think I wouldn't dare kill you on the spot?"

However, facing the dark muzzle, Lin Yide remained calm. He sneered provocatively, "Then shoot! And let me tell you something, I am now a secret guard of Lady Furina.

If you dare to shoot, it's the same as the Lannis family declaring war on the gods."

Herbert frowned tightly, staring at Lin Yide, and asked, "Do you have any proof to prove that?"

Lin Yide calmly took out a water-blue token from his pocket and waved it gently in front of Herbert.

His tone carried a hint of mockery, "Captain Herbert, you shouldn't be unfamiliar with this, right?"

Herbert recognized the token at a glance. He felt as if he had swallowed a fly, disgusted to the extreme.

Without this token, he could have killed Lin Yide on the spot, at most bearing the crime of dereliction of duty, and he would be able to return to his position after some time.

However, the situation was different now. If he really fired rashly, then Neuvillette would definitely launch a thorough investigation into their Lannis family afterward.

At that time, not only would he be trapped, but even his father would be implicated.

Lin Yide seemed to see through Herbert's concerns, and he continued to provoke, "Shoot! Aren't you very powerful? Why don't you shoot?"

Although the anger in Herbert's heart was burning to the extreme, he still struggled to restrain his impulse and did not dare to pull the trigger easily.

Lin Yide smiled contemptuously, reached out and firmly grabbed the gun, easily pushing it aside.

"Looks like you're useless even when given the chance," he sneered mockingly, then strode away leisurely.

Herbert clenched the gun in his hand, his face twisted and ferocious.

He vowed to make Lin Yide pay a painful price, to make him wish he were dead.

"Lyney, take your sister and come home with me."

On the busy streets of Fontaine, an old man who called himself Baron Aphton said kindly to a cute five- or six-year-old boy.

Although his face looked kind, a hint of lewdness and greed was hidden in the depths of his eyes.

Lyney looked back at his sister behind him, a little girl with a pair of playful cat ears on her head.

She held Lyney's hand tightly, her clear eyes filled with unease and fear.

Lyney instinctively wanted to refuse the strange old man's invitation.

In his heart, as long as he could depend on his sister Lynette, no matter how hard life was, he could face it bravely.

As Lynette grew up, her innocent, cute, and moving appearance became more and more eye-catching.

Although some eyes were full of kindness and love, more were filled with disturbing greed and malice.

Lyney knew that in this world full of danger and temptation, he and his sister were like a small boat drifting aimlessly, which could be swallowed by huge waves at any time.

In order to protect his beloved sister and prevent her from falling into the clutches of those with ulterior motives, Lyney, after a fierce ideological struggle and hesitation, finally decided to accept Baron Aphton's adoption proposal.

Just as Lyney was about to agree to Baron Aphton's adoption proposal, a cold voice suddenly rang out in the air.

"Lyney, if I were you, I would refuse this old pervert's adoption." The voice revealed a hint of disdain and mockery.

Lyney looked in the direction of the voice and saw a handsome young man walking towards them.

He had short, black, choppy hair, deep and bright brown eyes, and a faint smile on the corner of his mouth.

Aphton was furious when he heard the man's words. He pointed at the man and shouted, "Who are you? How dare you insult me so rudely!"

His voice echoed in the street, attracting the attention of many passers-by.

The man was not affected at all. He slowly walked up to Aphton, his eyes as sharp as knives, staring straight into Aphton's eyes, "My name is Yide, I think you should have heard of my name."

Of course Aphton had heard of his name. This guy had personally killed Brant in public this morning. He said in a trembling voice, "You…you…what do you want?"

"Something disgusting like you should have disappeared from this world long ago."

Lin Yide's tone was full of undisguised killing intent. He stared coldly at Baron Aphton, as if he were looking at a dead man, "Get out of here and don't let me see you again!"

Under his threat, Baron Aphton fled the scene in a panic, fearing that he would lose his life if he was a step late.

In fact, Lin Yide didn't want to get involved in this matter in the first place.

He knew that in the original plot, although Lyney and Lynette would encounter some crises, they would eventually be rescued by Arlecchino, the Fatui Harbinger, and taken to the House of the Hearth, where they would be trained to become the most outstanding spies of the House of the Hearth.

But now he suddenly intervened, purely because Aphton disgusted him.

He glanced at the somewhat uneasy Lyney and Lynette, "Come with me, I will adopt you, but you must work for me!"

After saying that, he turned around and walked forward without hesitation, seemingly not caring whether the siblings would choose to follow.

After a brief hesitation, Lyney held his sister's little hand tightly and resolutely chased after him.

His intuition told him that although Lin Yide seemed cold on the outside, he was actually a trustworthy and reliable person.

When Lin Yide noticed that Lyney and Lynette were about to catch up, he deliberately slowed down to match their speed.

At this moment, the system's voice sounded in his mind: "Congratulations to the host for completing the 'Adopting the Twins' event, gaining 200 experience points."

About half an hour later, Lin Yide led Lyney and Lynette back to his home. Just as he reached the door, he met old Dirk, who was full of sorrow.

Old Dirk looked at him, his tone full of concern and worry, "Young Master Yide, how could you personally end Young Master Brant's life? This is no small matter!"

Lin Yide sighed softly and said helplessly, "I didn't want to do this either, but that idiot dared to insult my mother. I really couldn't bear it, so I had no choice but to kill him."

He said it lightly, as if Brant's death was entirely Brant's own fault and had nothing to do with him.

Old Dirk didn't say anything more after hearing this. He silently turned around and went back to the house to start preparing dinner.

"You go help Uncle Dirk make dinner together," Lin Yide instructed the siblings.

"Okay!" The siblings agreed obediently and then followed old Dirk to the kitchen.
