Chapter 11 - Chapter 11: Strangeness

Mr. Slade was wearing a formal long-sleeved shirt and tailored pants. As an old man, he most likely wouldn't be bringing any spare clothes whenever he went, so at this very moment…

Thalira resisted the urge to snicker at Mr. Slade's sorry state as he went past their car, holding his bottom with a face full of humiliation.

Her fire control has improved a bit after she burned quite a few things in her inner space. Although the power was small, it was still quite useful against people who hadn't awakened their powers yet. The apocalypse hadn't begun, so even if there were people with power already, most likely they hadn't realized it yet.

Combining her fire power with her mental sense, she managed to accurately burn Mr. Slade's pants, showing two holes at his behind. She had made sure that Mr. Slade wouldn't feel the gust of wind through his missing cloth, effectively controlling the heat.

By the time Mr. Slade realized it, he was already in the middle of the crowd, so he had no choice but to tread forward bravely.

Inside the car, Mr. Brown openly snickered as he pulled down the window. His voice was loud, attracting some attention. "Mr. Slade, why are you in such a hurry?"

"Oh, what happened to you? Why are you holding your behind like that?" Mr. Brown had a fake concern in his tone. People around them, who hadn't noticed Mr. Slade's hurrying figure holding his bottom, instantly moved their gazes to him.

Humiliated, Mr. Slade only sent a quick glare and hurried to his car, almost running.

Mr. Brown clicked his tongue. There was a satisfied look on his face. Thalira pretended to have a curious look in her eyes, while Austin's face was full of contemplation. Mr. Brown was too happy to see his enemy in such a disheveled state, but Austin's mind was clear.

He cleared his throat and mumbled quietly, "How can such a thing happen?"

Mr. Brown shrugged. "Who knows? Maybe he wants to try a new style?"

He ignored Mr. Brown's words and shifted his gaze to Thalira, who gave him an innocent smile in return.

Mr. Brown's amusement finally subsided. He said in disapproval as he noticed Austin's line of sight. "But he really has no manners or morals. There are children everywhere."

Austin nodded in approval to Mr. Brown's eyes. As the car pulled out of the parking lot, Thalira had a contented look on her face as she checked the money in her account.

After she returned to her dorm room, she carefully took a look at her porcelains and ceramic collection. She picked an excellent tea set and planned to give it to Mr. Brown tomorrow.

Although Thalira possessed the original body owner's memories, she wasn't her. As a divine beast, she lacked the experience of a human's life. She wasn't sure how much money she should collect so that she could gather enough supplies. So, she planned to sell more jewelry.

She contacted some jewellers and planned to meet to conduct their transaction. As for the rest, Thalira sold some jewelry to every jewelry shop and pawnshop, with each receiving two pieces per store. In total, she managed to gather another fifty million points after a few days.

As Thalira entered the supermarket, her gaze was filled with cat-like curious eyes. She had been eating at the canteen near the dormitory all this while, so it was the first time she entered such a place.

This place did look amazing and convenient; she mulled over her heart. There was no need to have a seller in each stall like the human market she visited before.

Thalira arrived at the snack section and she began to pick anything that looked delicious to her. She even went to pick another shopping cart. It was a pity she couldn't put those things directly on her space rings.

"Sera?" Thalira was startled to find a familiar face here. The impression that this girl gave her some days ago still remained strong.

Unlike her somewhat eerie look from some days ago, she appeared more fresh. Nonetheless, the kind of uncomfortable feeling she exuded was still there.

"Thalira." She greeted her back in a hoarse voice, smiling.

"Do you want to walk back together to the dormitory?" This time, her voice was more natural. It was just that the gloom in her eyes remained, making people have an unexplained, unsettled feeling.

As she carried her two big bags, Thalira really wanted to refuse. However, as the saying goes, a curiosity killed a cat. Thalira, who has her meager spiritual power as a protection, was deeply curious about this Sera.

It wouldn't hurt, right?

"Alright." Thalira nodded as they began to walk side by side. Then she noticed Sera's small plastic bag. It wasn't that she wanted to pry into her business, but one look was enough to determine what was inside; a few instant noodles.

"Is it heavy?" Sera suddenly asked. "Do you want my help to carry your things?"

Thalira hurriedly shook her head. Sera made her feel awkward. Unlike the unabashed friendliness that Evelyn and Scarlett showed to her, she was more restrained. One of them would have directly snatched her bag. Of course, Thalira preferred to carry it on her own like this.

Seeing Thalira rejecting her offer, Sera's face was still expressionless, not minding it much. With a strange tilt of her head and an odd look on her face, she asked a question, "Are you busy lately, Thalira? You haven't called me lately."

Thalira raised her face and slowly nodded. "Yeah, sorry. I have been busy with some things."

"That's fine." Sera's voice still sounded hoarse, although better than the last time; it no longer made one's scalp tingle with the hint of unease. "I heard that you are moving to a private dormitory room."

"Yes, it's more convenient." Thalira admitted, but didn't explain further.

They arrived at an intersection. If they turned right, another hundred meters and they would have arrived at the dormitory. Sera suddenly stopped in her tracks, making Thalira also subconsciously stop walking.

"What's wrong, Sera?" Thalira inquired. She followed her line of sight and found some people far away, at the side of a road, discussing something.

Sera replied, "I am no longer living in the dormitory now, Thalira. See you."

Her words made Thalira taken aback. Before she could respond, Sera already walked toward the left side, approaching the group of people in brisk steps.

Now that Thalira focused her senses more clearly, she could hear that those people weren't discussing. They were arguing. From the looks of it, their increasingly intense disagreement would soon turn into blows.

Originally, Thalira didn't want to interfere. She saw Sera stand in front of one side, shielding them. Until a burly man raised his fist and launched it at Sera.

There was a cracking sound that sent one's nerves on edge. Sera's body tumbled, and luckily Thalira managed to catch her in time. Such a devastating blow would break one's bones, right?

Yet, Thalira felt her invisible cat fur stood up in alarm when she checked Sera's condition with her mental power.
