"Hmm, two books, two different identifications. Although some information appeared the same, some became different."
From the few objects Aurun had already analyzed using the appraisal spell, he realized that the information provided by the appraisal spell varied between items. It became more noticeable when the previous book about basic spells he analyzed only gave him information about the year the book was made and the name of the book, while the book he had analyzed now gave all kinds of information he hadn't thought of.
"There should be a reason for these differences,"
he pondered silently.
Ting! Ling! Ting!
Even in the soundproof room, he heard that sound. It was the alarm ringing before the start of the first lecture at the academy. The alarm rang ten minutes before lectures began so students could calmly get to their classes.
"I had already ignored all the class yesterday; ignoring today too would not be a good idea."
Knowing that, Auran stood up from his comfy chair. Although at first it had felt comfortable to him, after a night spent in the same place, he had become numb to that comfort.
At the academy, there weren't enough resources to hold specific classes for those who followed the path of Time. Since everyone expected those who followed the path of Time to be superior to others, they also expected them to carve their own path however they could.
But according to the rules of the academy, a student still had to attend at least one lecture. Because of this, those without specific lectures could join lectures from other fields to broaden their knowledge. Since Auran belonged to this category, he had come in front of the notice board where information about today's lectures was displayed.
There was a basic water magic lecture for those who had just entered anew, and also basic earth and fire lectures.
Auran's eyes casually swept through the list of lectures being held today, and suddenly, something caught his interest.
"Symbiotic Magic lecture held by Professor Laura... Guess this should be a good way to spend the time."
After checking which lecture hall it was being held in, Auran drifted away quietly, dressed in a long, dark, hooded robe. With his hands in his pockets and his face slightly covered, not many in the academy even noticed his presence as he walked among them.
However, once he got close to the area where the lectures were being held, he heard whispers.
"Look, isn't that that guy?"
"A rotting rock in my family..."
"Oh, he's actually still here?"
Some of them secretly looked at him, while others openly ridiculed him with dirty remarks.
"considering from the fact I've never seen them before, it seems these guys are probably newbies. If so, they shouldn't know about someone like me who got forgotten in others' shadows long ago. What's going on?"
Right at that moment, as Auran moved past a slightly open door of a lecture hall, he heard the voice of a female lecturer speaking to the students.
"And that's why, when you choose your magic field, you should be more careful. If you want more proof, you can meet a man named Auran—someone foolish enough to think he could achieve something in the field of Time. Yet to this day, he's still rotting in this academy while his peers have already graduated and advanced along their own paths."
The woman—still young, not yet in her middle age—had a fairly attractive figure. She had dark hair with thin blue linings that gave her a stylish appearance. With round eyes and a sweet smile, she appeared pleasant to anyone's eyes.
"That woman... I've seen her before."
Auran dug through his memory, drifting back to three years ago when he was still a freshman at the academy.
"Oh, so that's her. Did she become a professor now?"
Auran checked the nameplate on the door and noticed the "Substitute Professor" remark. Looking once again into the lecture hall, he heard her ridicule his name again. Despite that, Auran's emotions remained calm.
"I'm not in the mood to deal with this."
His legs began moving again, carrying Auran down the corridor until he reached the lecture room he was looking for.
"Hmm."
Turning her head, Sena gazed at the door of her lecture hall. Her body had sensed that someone was watching her, and upon seeing the slightly opened door, she felt certain.
"Professor?"
Because of her sudden halt in the lecture, some students began to question her.
"Someone, close that door please. Now Then, shall we discuss why you chose this field first?"
She quickly detached from those useless thoughts and focused back on her lecture. This was the second time she had gotten a chance to represent herself as a professor, and if she did well, she could surely earn praise from the Headmaster and maybe even be promoted to a full professor soon.
If that happened...
"He-he, I can imagine that guy's look on his face."
With a smile, she leaned back onto her comfortable professor's chair.
Crack!
But as the chair bore her weight, it suddenly broke and collapsed, dragging Sena down along with it.
Thud!
"Augh!"
Sena's bottom hit the floor hard, and she exhaled painfully, though she held back her cry, considering where she was. Her eyes moved toward the chair. She couldn't understand how a chair built so sturdily for a professor could break like that.
Then she saw the point where the chair had broken—it was the leg. And at the spot where it had separated, she saw a clear and very sharp cut mark.
"This is the result of a spell."
As someone qualified to represent the academy as a substitute professor, Sena held vast knowledge about magic. Especially in weapon magic, the field she excelled in. Just by seeing the clean cut mark, she knew it was the result of a spell.
"Alright, who among you is bold enough to do this?"
Her immediate thought was that someone in her class had pulled a prank on her. And she, who never tolerated being made fun of, became enraged—enough to send chills through the front-line bootlickers in the room.
"Professor, we didn't do anything!"
They pleaded pitifully, but unfortunately, Sena's rage had gone far beyond reason. She ignored their denial and directly gave them a massive pile of assignments, enough to give the freshmen a headache just by looking at it.
