The sun dipped below the city skyline as Jason stepped through the dorm gates with one hand in his hoodie pocket and a duffel bag slung lazily over his shoulder. Everyone else had arrived hours ago. Most were still buzzing with energy, running around unpacking, exploring, or shouting across floors.
Jason ignored it all.
"Yo, late arrival," Kaminari called from the common area couch, grinning. "Get lost on the way to your own dorm?"
Jason arched a brow. "Nah, I just didn't feel like being on time."
Momo appeared from the elevator at that exact moment, arms crossed. "You could've at least messaged."
He smirked. "What, and ruin the dramatic entrance?"
That earned him an eye-roll and a muttered, "You're impossible," but her lips curled slightly before she walked off.
Jason made his way to his assigned room, didn't even bother unpacking, and returned downstairs, where Mineta and Kaminari were plotting something near the kitchen.
"Yo, new guy," Mineta whispered, waving him over. "We're starting a prank war. You in?"
Jason leaned in close and whispered, "Sure," then immediately turned and said loudly, "They're hiding whipped cream under Bakugo's door handle."
Mineta choked on air. Kaminari stared in betrayal.
"Thanks for the invite," Jason said, grabbing a water bottle and walking off.
Laughter broke out across the room.
Later that night, after the dorms quieted down, Jason climbed onto the roof. The cool air brushed his face as he lay on his back, eyes locked on the sky. The stars were faint behind the city lights, but they were still there—distant, silent, unchanging.
"Can't sleep either?"
Jason tilted his head to see Midoriya approaching, hands in his jacket pockets. "Or just thinking?"
"Neither," Jason said, sitting up. "Just don't like being boxed in."
Midoriya sat beside him, awkward but respectful. "You're… really good at keeping people guessing."
"That a compliment or a warning?"
"A compliment, I think," Midoriya smiled sheepishly. "You don't talk about your Quirk much."
Jason shrugged. "What's there to talk about? It's weird, flashy, makes me hard to kill. That's enough, right?"
Midoriya paused, then asked quietly, "Do you want to be a hero?"
Jason looked at him then—really looked. There was no judgment in Deku's voice, just genuine curiosity.
"…I want to matter," Jason replied finally. "Being a hero's just one way to do it."
The two sat in silence for a while. Midoriya eventually said goodnight and left.
Jason stayed, watching the stars a bit longer.
He didn't know what kind of hero he'd be.
But tomorrow, he'd start finding out.
