( Some minutes before )

"F***, f***, f***..." Alexa was walking with Paola, furious over her mistake.

"Stop. It's done," Paola said, rubbing her temple. She was getting a

headache from all the performances they'd had to pull off.

"How is it possible? He spent the entire day doing weird things that made no sense. He had to be one of us." Alexa was convinced that Damien was one of them, but everything had ended badly.

"Enough. He can't move it. We'll handle it our own way," Paola replied, trying to stay calm. They couldn't afford to lose control of the situation.

It had been a mistake, one with a high cost. Alexa had the power to bring people into a false dimension. But another Believer could still move and react within that space, and even those without belief had partial mobility.

It could affect any part of the body: a leg, an arm, even just a twitch in the face. Sometimes those small parts came together. And when they did, it was strange to watch them function.

Damien's reaction to her power had been a miracle… an unfortunate one.

Alexa had ways to deal with the situation if Damien had turned out to be a Believer with bad intentions. But he wasn't. And she was trying to recruit him, not kill someone just for being weird.

The only thing they could do was rely on Paola's power to amplify feelings. Make them stronger in the people she interacts with, and influence the people around them indirectly.

"Yeah… good thing we found out beforehand that they can still feel things even when partially immobilized," Alexa said with a long sigh. "I'll talk to him tomorrow."

"Okay. Be careful. Even if he's not one of us… he could have a gun," Paola warned as they arrived at her class.

"Yeah, I know. See you."

Please, we don't need more problems, Alexa thought as she walked back toward the immobilized Damien.

A very short chapter today. I honestly didn't feel like writing, but I needed to add more context about what happened in the previous chapter. Hopefully, this gives a clearer view and sets the stage for what's coming next.
