Chapter 11 - This child is mine alone

Kelsey glanced at him and ignored the warning in his eyes.

She pursed her lips and said nothing, continuing to walk forward.

Rhett put his hand on the steering wheel and impatiently unbuttoned the cufflink on his wrist. "There's a big exam today and all the taxis in this area have gone to the west district. You won't be able to catch a taxi nearby."

Kelsey was surprised that he would explain this to her, and paused for a moment. "It's okay, I can take the bus."

Rhett's patience was wearing thin, and he tapped his fingers on the steering wheel before suddenly getting out of the car.

He strode over to Kelsey and picked her up horizontally.

Kelsey was startled and instinctively hugged his neck.

After meeting the man's meaningful gaze, she realized what was happening and pushed his shoulders, saying coldly, "Put me down!"

Rhett ignored her resistance and threw her into the passenger seat, leaning over to fasten her seatbelt.

The space in the car was limited, and their shadows almost overlapped, with no escape from each other's breath.

Kelsey clenched her fists as she looked at the handsome face so close to her. "What are you trying to do?"

"I've already told you, don't make me repeat myself," the man said, propping his hand on the back of her seat and looking down at her.

"I've also told you, I don't want to get in your car. I can walk by myself!"

"You don't want to get in my car?" Rhett suddenly pinched her face, his deep gaze scanning her face, sneering, "You've even been in my bed, and now you're afraid of getting in my car?"

Kelsey clenched her hand, wanting to raise her arm and slap him hard.

But she thought of her current situation and only squeezed her fist, weakly hanging it to the side. "After the divorce, we are strangers. I don't want any unnecessary involvement with you."

The man's eyes darkened, and the strength in his hand suddenly tightened. "You don't want any involvement with me, yet you begged me with tears to let you keep this child?"

He finished speaking and looked down at Kelsey's belly, his lips curved into an arc, but there was no hint of a smile in his eyes, only a faint mockery.

Kelsey's face changed suddenly.

She bit her lip tightly and endured it again and again. "I told you, this child is mine alone, and has nothing to do with you."

Rhett's slightly calloused fingertips rubbed against her lips. Looking at the crimson color, his eyes dimmed. "Tell me, how does one give birth alone?"

Kelsey glared at him angrily. "You know what I mean. I want this child not because it has anything to do with you, but because this may be the only child I have in my life. No matter who the father is, I will keep it… Hiss!"

Before she could finish speaking, she felt the strength that bound her tighten.

Kelsey saw a surge of hostility in Rhett's eyes, almost overwhelming her, but it quickly subsided, returning to a calm and still surface like an ancient well.

She thought she had mistaken it.

Rhett pressed his finger against her lower lip, forcing her to slightly open her mouth. "You look better when you're crying," he said with a hint of force.

Kelsey stared at the man in front of her, their proximity reminding her of the intimate moments they had shared. She couldn't understand how someone who had used and abandoned her so mercilessly could speak to her so casually.

Her eyes gradually turned cold, and she turned her head to the side. "You're going to marry Elise soon. Aren't you afraid of upsetting her by carrying your ex-wife in public?"

She heard Rhett chuckle softly. "Elise has already moved out."

Rhett studied her delicate features. "Do you have any other tricks up your sleeve?"

Kelsey sneered, self-mockery in her voice. "Mr. Clark doesn't fall for women's tears anymore, does he? Or does Miss Collins mean more to you than two drops of my tears?"

Rhett gazed at her, his eyes growing darker. He released her and seemed to lose interest. "Don't compare yourself to her."

Kelsey lowered her gaze. "Miss Collins is a beloved celebrity. I'm not worthy of being compared to her. Since Mr. Clark loves her so much, he shouldn't let me, his insignificant ex-wife, be a thorn in her heart."

Rhett remained silent.

He looked at Kelsey's expression without any force, his eyes indifferent, like he really agreed with what she said.

After a while, he let out a soft, meaningful chuckle.

Kelsey saw him finally move away from in front of her and get into the car from the other side. She slowly turned her head and let out a breath of relief.

The car started driving.

"Where are you going?" Kelsey frowned.

Rhett didn't answer. He kept his eyes on the road ahead, one hand resting casually on the steering wheel, his metal watch catching the light. "Stardust Villa."

Stardust Villa was their wedding house.

They had a flash marriage and didn't even have a wedding. Kelsey only had Dexter as her family. After getting the marriage certificate, she had a simple meal with Dexter and officially became Mrs. Clark.

The place she once called home was now just a cold name.

"Good. I'm going to the villa to get my luggage too," Kelsey said.

Then she'd find a time to get the divorce certificate with Rhett, and after that, this man would completely disappear from her life.

Stardust Villa.

The villa area was pretty far from the city center. Stardust Villa wasn't huge, but the location was great. The scenery and the environment were beautiful, perfect for newlyweds to live in.

A black luxury car pulled into the courtyard and drove into the parking area.

The two of them entered the elevator one after the other. Kelsey instinctively looked around at the room's furnishings, feeling all sorts of emotions rise in her chest.

Rhett didn't like having too many strangers at home. He had a cold, distant personality and was really sharp when it came to business, but he didn't enjoy private socializing.

Even though Stardust Villa wasn't that big, it had all the facilities: a garden, a swimming pool, everything. And it took a lot of work to keep it looking nice. Rhett had hired a few housekeepers just to handle the cleaning and cooking.

But Kelsey liked the feeling of taking care of the house on her own, so she usually did things herself. She didn't let the housekeepers live in, only letting them come over from time to time to help clean up.

To Rhett, this was just a house.

But to Kelsey, it was her home.

Every corner of it carried her presence.

In the entrance hall, there was a seashell wind chime she made herself. Their couple slippers had little plush pins she'd specially picked out.

Rhett used to think they were childish and refused to wear them, but after Kelsey asked him a few times, he stopped saying anything about it.

"Rhett…" Kelsey changed into her indoor slippers and looked down at the two shadows walking side by side.

The man stood behind her. Even though he didn't come back often when they were married, they did live together for a while. He had gotten used to the space.
