From my chest an ethereal blue light shined resonating with the necklace. The light began to coalesce. It shimmered and swirled before me.
Soon the glittering dimmed down. A shape took form. It hovered in the air then suddenly the remaining light shattered like glass.
The shape flapped it's wings throwing off the particles that illuminated just moments before.
The shape was jet black with a faint hue of royal blue. It had two tiny three toed legs and a sharp beak. It's eyes carried an air of intelligence, but were still that of an animal's.
Instinctively, I knew what the avian before me was.
"CAWW! Why did you have to summon me in such a place."
The Crow spoke English though it still sounded like a bird. Like a parrot repeating it's owner's words. Despite the absurdity of the situation I felt strangely calm.
Maybe it was because I had already seen some sort of clone of me or because I was overwhelmed and hadn't fully processed the crow talking to me yet.
But, most of all I felt calm because something in my soul told me I could trust this one.
That's what suddenly put me on edge.
I don't know anything about this bird or situation. For all I know it could be some sort of demon masquerading as a simple bird. On top of that it just suddenly materialized from my chest and the necklace.
The fact I felt I could inherently trust it is exactly why I couldn't immediately trust it. Who knows this demon bird could be using some sort of magic to make me lower my guard.
"Caww! Are you just gonna stare all day?"
"Who or what are you?"
"Caww! I am Crow, your Totem Animal. I am your guide."
"Wait, you're a crow named Crow?"
"Yes, do you have a problem with that?"
"No, it's just kinda boring isn't it?"
"Well, what name would you come up with? Caww!"
"I guess you got me there well what about Kazuya? It's what my parents were gonna name me before they settled on Taiga."
"Caww! Hmm, I guess it's not bad. I shall accept the name Cawwzuya."
"Wait I'm getting off track. How did I summon you and what exactly is a 'Totem Animal'?"
Once again I ended up feeling comfortable with the bird. I had to stay wary.
"Caww! You summoned me with the help of that pendant. I am your Totem Animal, a guide from the spirit realm summoned to aid you."
"If you're here to help me then will you help me out of here."
"Of course, I can't stand this place. There aren't even any shinies."
"Shinies?"
"Caww! Yes, shinies. I love anything that shines. If you shall be my summoner then you should collect shinies too!"
"Alright, if you help me out of here I'll get us tons of shinies."
Kazuya's eyes shined with an ethereal glow.
"Then, I must help my summoner escape. I didn't like this place anyways."
"Great, then-"
"ON THE COUNT!"
I suddenly heard a guard yell.
Sitting on the bed I quicjly put Kazuya in the corner and hid him with my body.
The guard stared at me intensely. Did he know something was up? What if he comes in my cell to do a search. My thoughts ran like the wind and every moment passing by felt like an eternity.
As I was trapped in a prison of my own mind the guard opened his mouth.
"Check."
Then he moved on without another word.
"Caww! Don't grab me so willy nilly."
Kazuya darted off the bed. Flapping his wings in place. "What are you doing?! We're gonna get caught!"
"Caww! There is no reason to hide me."
"Yes, there is im not supposed to have anything in here let alone a magic spirit crow. What do you thinks gonna happen if they catch us?"
"Summoner, don't you think they have cameras in this prison?"
I hadn't thought of that. The ephiany Kazuya gave me had my mind racing a thousand thoughts a minute once more.
"Caww! Besides only someone with another Totem spirit can see or hear Totem Spirits."
Kazuya's words pulled me out of my daze just as fast as I was put there.
"Wait what?"
"Yes, summoner none of these other humans can see or hear me. They can hear you though."
I felt like I had a headache.
"At least that's solved then. Also call me Taiga not summoner."
"Caww! As you wish."
"God, I have so many questions."
"Ask away, Taiga."
The rest of my time I spent learning as much as I could from Kazuya. Although, I was still paranoid he was the only one I could ask regarding well him.
We talked for what seems like hours until it was finally Lunch time.
"ON THE CHOW!"
I learned that Totem Animals are spirits meant to guide or help their summoner in life. They can come in many different forms not just a crow. They can be a bear, eagle, deer, etc.
Next, each Totem Animal was unique to the summoner. Two summoners for example might both have spirits that take the same animal form, but they are different entities. Each spirit only guides one person.
Finally, even though you summoned a Totem Animal it only truly became your guide once you signed a contract with it.
Still cautious of Kazuya I decided not to sign a contract until later. There was no need to rush after all.
