Chapter 27 - Episode 27: The T-Rex Frightened Like a Quail

In the game, dinosaurs could be tamed using dinosaur meat, fish meat, and berries.

The higher the level of the dinosaur, the more materials were consumed during the taming process, and the longer the entire process lasted.

However, apart from having to wait longer, there weren't any other major hurdles.

Overall, the whole process wasn't actually that complicated.

But now, the Ark had been extracted into the real world.

After a process of "self-adaptation" and "rationalization" to align with the basic framework rules of the universe, the process of taming dinosaurs had also undergone some changes.

It was no longer as simple and straightforward as it was in the game.

Setting aside the initial combat phase that was essential when taming certain types of dinosaurs, whether taming docile herbivorous dinosaurs or carnivorous ones that hunted other dinosaurs for a living, a large amount of "pet food" was required.

Simply put, under the original rule that "higher-level dinosaurs require more materials" another rule had been added. "the larger the dinosaur size, the greater the consumption, with the two increasing proportionally."

Want to use a small piece of meat to tame a massive T-Rex?

It would barely fill the gap between its teeth—how could such a creature lower itself to that level?

To be frank, with a body that large, it was questionable whether it would even notice the small piece of meat in your hand.

Moreover, as the actual owner of this Ark, Shi Xiaolei wasn't a so-called "Forerunner".

Without the crystal embedded in the game character wrist as assistance, taming would be even more troublesome.

Why could creatures like Megalodon and silica pearls that should live in saltwater thrive so well in freshwater oceans?

Why would the massive Lightning Wyvern be blocked outside the yard by a mere fence of grass?

Why could a few whistles perfectly command dinosaurs that weren't particularly intelligent?

In a fictional game world, these inconsistencies with common sense could be bypassed with a simple "that's just how it was designed".

But when the game became reality, there had to be a reasonable explanation... after all, the "Ark" followed a technological path, not a mystical one.

It's worth noting that for technological things, from theoretical foundations to development paths, nothing could be omitted.

In short, the final result of rationalization was that "all dinosaur DNA had been adjusted".

Because there was hidden information encoded in their DNA, those massive dinosaurs would avoid structures, just as wild beasts instinctively avoid fire.

They could be tamed by Forerunners because the crystal embedded in the Forerunner wrist activated certain segments of the dinosaur DNA.

After being tamed, the genes that made them resist structures were suppressed, replaced by obedience to their owners—this was why they could live so peacefully in enclosures built by their masters.

Saltwater species being able to live in freshwater, being able to discern their owner intentions from simple whistles, accelerated healing after eating, being affected by buffs during combat, and so on—all of these were actually results of genetic modification.

However... the development and progress of technology has always been step-by-step and gradual.

Just as primitive humans couldn't create steam engines, due to the technological gap, low-end scientific technology could never yield high-end results.

For instance, a living example had now appeared before Shi Xiaolei.

"Xiaolei, Xiaolei, why isn't it moving?"

Looking at the massive creature lying before her, seemingly drained of all energy as if its tendons had been pulled and bones broken, Kanna turned her head back with a puzzled expression and asked Shi Xiaolei.

"I'm not sure either."

With deep confusion, Shi Xiaolei approached Big White and raised his hand to pat its large head.

"Big White, what's wrong? Did you eat something bad?"

"Wuu~"

Without any of the arrogance it usually displayed when roaming among other dinosaurs, Big White now resembled a frightened chick, its voice filled with fear and unease, its body trembling.

Feeling Big White emotional state through his touch, Shi Xiaolei became even more confused.

"Looking at its condition, it seems to have been frightened."

2B observation was much more detailed.

"Could it have encountered some danger outside just now?"

"..."

After careful consideration, Shi Xiaolei felt that possibility was slim.

"It's probably not that reason."

On the Island map—no, rather, among the dinosaur gene samples stored in this Ark—there were only a few species whose individual strength ranked above the T-Rex.

Among them, the Broodmother Spider, King Kong, and the Dragon were the three final bosses.

Unlike other dinosaurs that could be created with ordinary materials, these three creatures couldn't be produced without special artifacts.

As for the Alpha T-Rex, it didn't require artifacts as materials.

However, its data was locked, and Shi Xiaolei hadn't found a way to unlock it yet, so naturally, it wouldn't spawn.

Eliminating the herbivorous Titanosaur which wouldn't actively attack, the only creature that could pose a threat to the T-Rex seemed to be the Giganotosaurus.

After all, it was considerably larger than the T-Rex and was carnivorous; its daily diet probably included T-Rexs as well.

However, Shi Xiaolei didn't believe that a Giganotosaurus had frightened Big White to this extent.

First, the Giganotosaurus spawn location was very far away.

Given its habits, it wouldn't travel such a long distance to come near the base, so it couldn't possibly encounter Big White, who had been assigned by Shi Xiaolei to patrol around the base and guard it.

Second, even if the two met, Big White wouldn't be intimidated by the other.

The reason was simple: it was a third-generation dinosaur and Shi Xiaolei had trained it to max level.

Although it was smaller than the Giganotosaurus, in terms of combat power, Big White far surpassed a wild Giganotosaurus.

Finally, just as a hunter dog would dare to attack a tiger, tamed pet dinosaurs had overcome their instinctive fears.

Even a mere Deinonychus would dare to challenge a Giganotosaurus, let alone Big White, who was a T-Rex born with a domineering nature that took second place to none.

If they had encountered each other, the one to fall would have been the Giganotosaurus.

"Hmm..."

The explanation was logical and coherent; even 2B electronic brain couldn't find any flaws in it.

Changing perspective, could it be...?

Wanting to help Shi Xiaolei, while pondering, she inadvertently noticed Kanna trying to get closer, and Big White increasingly violent trembling.

A flash of insight struck 2B, and she suddenly understood the key.

"I've got it!"

"Hmm?"

"It must be because of Kanna."

Pointing at the little girl who was still stealthily inching forward, 2B face unconsciously broke into a smile, looking somewhat excited.

"Don't you remember? Her true form is actually a giant dragon."

The technology built into the Ark could genetically edit dinosaurs, making them forget their fear of creatures higher up the food chain.

But limited by the technological level, the effect of this editing function ultimately had an upper limit.

To put it simply, if the intimidation power of a wild Giganotosaurus was 100, then Kanna, as a deity-level dragon, would have an intimidation power of at least five digits.

Meanwhile, the courage boost provided by the gene writing function was at most just over 100.

It was enough to make a Deinonychus with zero courage change its nature and stubbornly confront a Giganotosaurus.

But to make dinosaurs stand tall in front of Kanna, to overcome the fear deep in their souls.

It was like asking an elementary school student to take a doctoral exam—the material was far beyond their capability, making it simply impossible.
