Chapter 8 - Su Xiaoqiao

"Aw man, this really sucks," Kairos said out loud as he tried to eat the copper rhino meat, which was almost impossible to chew.

Back when he fought those beetles, at least their meat wasn't that hard to eat. It was kind of soft and watery, so Kairos had managed to finish a full plate without much trouble.

But now, as his teeth sank into the flesh of the copper-toothed beast, he felt the raw taste spreading across his mouth. The flavor was so bad that it almost gave him chills.

Kairos only had a stove, which he had borrowed from one of the group members who helped him when he first arrived at the sanctuary. But unfortunately, he completely forgot to bring it with him. So now he had no choice but to eat the meat raw.

"If I'm being honest, they're way too kind for this world, I won't be much surprised if they end up dead trying to help someone" Kairos thought to himself, trying hard to ignore the awful taste still lingering on his tongue.

After killing all the copper-toothed beasts, he decided to eat two of them right there before thinking about what to do with the rest.

About half an hour later, after a painful struggle, Kairos finally managed to force down one of the beasts. It gave him nine primitive geno points in total. Now, it was time to start on the second one.

Another hour passed, and somehow, he managed to finish eating the second beast too. This one gave him seven primitive geno points.

But now, Kairos was completely worn out. He couldn't even move—standing up felt impossible.

"I think I ate way too much," he whispered, looking around at the ground. The area was covered with the carcasses of the same rhino-like beasts he had just eaten.

Kairos sat under a tree. It was boring, but he still needed time to digest some of the meat he had eaten before he could leave this place.

He decided to sell the three beast souls of the primitive copper-toothed beasts, since they were of no use to him.

Kairos mainly relied on his fists and kicks for combat, but so far, he hadn't met any creature he could test his kicks on.

The beetles' shells were too tough to be damaged by kicking, and when it came to the rhinos, he was in a rush—he had to finish before nightfall.

But the thing he feared the most had now arrived—it was already night.

"Damn it. How am I supposed to carry all this and fight off any beasts that might show up?" Kairos said out loud, standing in the same dull scenery he had been stuck in for hours.

In the end, he decided he'd return to the shelter, bring some people with him for help, and pay them using the money he'd earn after selling the loot.

With that thought in mind, Kairos began walking away from the area. But just then, he heard the sound of animal footsteps coming his way.

"No way… You've got to be kidding me," Kairos muttered, annoyed by the arrival of yet another beast.

Soon, an ugly-looking creature stepped into view. But to his surprise, someone was riding it.

The rider quickly jumped off the beast and recalled it into its beast soul. It was nighttime, and the man held a torch in his hand, which allowed Kairos to see his face clearly—brown hair, nerdy glasses, and a white lab coat.

The man rushed up to Kairos and asked, "Where is Dollar? Tell me quickly!"

Kairos instantly recognized him—after all, he had been introduced early in the story. But still, he decided to act clueless.

"I have no idea who you're talking about," Kairos said, putting on a confused expression.

"You don't know who Dollar is?" the man asked, clearly shocked.

"I just arrived at God's Sanctuary a few days ago," Kairos replied calmly. "I don't really know this place yet. I was wandering around on my own when I met this guy named Dollar. He had already cleared this hunting ground. He seemed like he was in a hurry and told me to sell his loot. He even gave me three beast souls of those copper-toothed beasts."

The man stared at him for a moment, then said, "I heard from someone that a man in golden armor was hunting around here. And not just me—almost everyone in Steel Armor Shelter knows about it."

Hearing that, Kairos cursed himself silently. "Damn, I really shouldn't have used that beast soul. It was too flashy". He knew it wouldn't be long before Son of Heaven and Qin Xuan showed up.

"Wait—did you see Son of Heaven or Qin Xuan coming here too?" Kairos asked with concern.

"They weren't in the Sanctuary when I came," the man replied.

That news gave Kairos a bit of relief.

The man began looking at him with suspicion, wondering if Kairos might actually be Dollar. But after examining Kairos's tattered clothes—he looked like a beggar—he gave up on that idea.

"If you really met Dollar, why didn't you just run off with his loot? You had the perfect chance," the man asked, narrowing his eyes.

"Even if I didn't know him well, someone who can clear a place like this without a scratch isn't someone I want to mess with," Kairos said honestly. "He told me to sell his loot to someone named Su Xiaoqiao. Do you know where he might be?"

Hearing that, the man stood up straighter and smiled proudly. "So Dollar really considers me his trading partner…"

Kairos still tried to play clueless and said, "What? You know Su Xiaoqiao?"

Su Xiaoqiao just looked at Kairos for a moment before he answered, "Guess what, I'm Su Xiaoqiao." His expression became so dull.

Kairos then showed a bland surprised reaction, "Woah, I didn't expected that." Anyone could tell he was acting by the way Kairos has acted just now, and this act raised Su Xiaoqiao's suspicion on Kairos a bit.

He then asked, "What price did he set for the beast souls?"

"I didn't get the chance to ask him," Kairos replied. "He was in a rush. So, why don't we just go with the market price. Fair deal, isn't it?"

Kairos didn't really knew how much do they cost, if he set the bars too high, Su Xiaoqiao might get suspicious and Kairos didn't wanted to set them too low either.

Su Xiaoqiao still had his doubts. He didn't fully trust Kairos, but he also knew that if Kairos tried to cheat him out of Dollar's money, he'd probably be a dead man before long.
