Chapter 24 - Quantum Observer

"By the way, why didn't I become a quantum body?" Lin Yu asked the system, his tone tinged with curiosity.

He had already become a Quantum Observer like Dr. Manhattan. By logic, he should now resemble the same blue quantum body. Yet, his current state clearly didn't match the iconic image.

[ Explanation: This system isolates the host's Quantum Observer state from the normal state. The host may freely switch between the normal state and the Quantum Observer state. ]

"You can do this?" Lin Yu raised his brows. As expected of his second assistant personality—Xiao Shu had already considered his concern. When Lin Yu initially chose to become a Quantum Observer, a fleeting worry crossed his mind: Would he end up glowing blue and uncanny like Dr. Manhattan, forever alien to others?

Sure, the Quantum Drive aesthetic had a certain coolness, but walking around looking like a walking particle accelerator wasn't exactly discreet.

Now it seemed his worries were pointless—the system had solved it for him preemptively.

[ Yes. ]

Though the reply was calm, Lin Yu thought he heard a faint satisfaction hidden in Xiao Shu's voice.

[ Does the host choose to switch to the form of a Quantum Observer now? ]

"Yes." Lin Yu responded without hesitation.

Blue quantum light blossomed outward like a flower in bloom. Lin Yu's figure shimmered, his entire body transforming instantaneously into a glowing, radiant blue—his true quantum body awakened.

"Ah… this feeling is truly extraordinary." Lin Yu exhaled softly, his voice filled with awe.

He could feel it—the might of a Quantum Observer, the terrifying awareness that all the elementary particles in the universe danced according to his will.

He suddenly recalled the intricate powers of Dr. Manhattan:

• Quantum Body (neither matter nor energy)

• Quantum Response (reacts within Planck time: 1e-43 seconds)

• Ontology Replication (create countless self-aware duplicates)

• Memory Reading (extract latent memories from all sentient beings)

• Move Time and Space (space-time teleportation without movement)

• Dominant Particles (govern the behavior of all matter and energy)

• Particle Destruction (annihilate particles regardless of density or mass)

• Predict the Future (trace past and future via quantum trajectory; affected by tachyon flow, but minimal interference)

• Decomposition and Recombination (manipulate matter and energy composition)

Reorganize the Body (reconstruct even after complete annihilation)

• Microcosmic Vision (perceive matter and energy as raw quantum states)

• Harness Time (freely traverse and manipulate the timeline)

• Create Life (birth new life forms by arranging elementary particles)

Possessing a power so divine, it was no wonder Dr. Manhattan gradually detached from human emotion. To such an entity, everything was just a configuration of particles. What meaning could existence hold for someone like that?

Even though Lin Yu hadn't activated Infinite Ascension to elevate his dimensional level, he now saw the entire structure of the 3D universe through the lens of a quantum being.

This confirmed it—Quantum Observer wasn't a mere fourth-dimensional existence. It transcended that boundary.

(Note for Readers : After extensive research and forum debates, opinions on Dr. Manhattan's dimensionality vary—some claim 4D, others 5D, 6D, even 7D. To simplify, the protagonist's Quantum Observer form in this novel is loosely based on the movie version of Watchmen. His power level is fixed at the peak of the fourth dimension, distinct from all other settings.)

Compared to his previous entry into the fourth dimension, this was something else entirely. The characteristics of Quantum Observer rendered Lin Yu exponentially more powerful.

Even without using the newly awakened power of time, Lin Yu could already perceive all timelines—past, present, future—as vibrant threads before his eyes. He could traverse any axis freely and observe the outcomes of any event.

This wasn't just fourth-dimensional power. It was a quantum leap beyond, brushing the edge of the fifth.

If the old Lin Yu entering the fourth dimension was a mortal among gods, the new Lin Yu as a Quantum Observer was the god among those mortals.

A God of the Fourth Dimension.

The difference between third-dimensional humans and this state was like comparing mortals to celestial beings.

Before, he could only draw on the canvas of 3D space. Now, he could alter the very paper—the particles forming that canvas—shaping its texture, structure, and density with a thought.

But with that overwhelming omnipotence came a chill.

His emotions dulled. The wonder began fading from his eyes.

[ Activating self-protection protocol. Initiating Mind Power stabilization. ]

A soft pulse swept through him. The newly awakened Mind Power gently enveloped his consciousness, bringing warmth back to the cold abyss within. Lin Yu's vanishing emotions slowly returned, like a sunrise over a frozen sea.

"Thank you, Xiao Shu " Lin Yu whispered in his heart, a sincere smile curving his lips.

[ En. ]

"It's incredible—this sensation of dominating particle movement at will…" Lin Yu floated mid-air, bathed in quantum light. He moved his now-weightless arm slowly, marveling aloud.

"Alright, let's switch back. I still have to train Xiaoxin."

[ Understood. ]

Lin Yu's dimension anchored back into the third. The blue quantum light receded from his body, and he returned to his normal physical state.

"Release time stop," Lin Yu murmured. A casual snap of his fingers lifted the temporal freeze. A ripple of space radiated outward, forming a barrier with a ten-kilometer radius around him.

Facing Ye Xin once more, he smiled. "Okay, attack me with everything you've got. For the rest of the morning, don't hold back. We keep fighting until noon—or until one of us drops."

Ye Xin glanced curiously at the translucent space barrier before nodding. "Then I'm going!"

She burst forward, lightning erupting around her as she surged at Lin Yu like a storm given form.

From that day onward, whenever Ye Xin had no classes, during weekends or holidays, she would spar with Lin Yu in this isolated training field—refining her abilities with every bout.

Sometimes, Lin Yu brought her along to enforce justice, helping her gain valuable experience.

Over time, the two of them—one god-like, one ascendant—nearly eradicated crime from Earth.

Now, crime had become a rarity.

People across the globe held only reverence for the pair. Nations sang their praises, and some even commissioned bronze statues in their honor. Their legend spread far and wide, immortalized in murals and memorials alike.
