Chapter 1 - 1: Do You Believe Me Now?

"So, you're saying you're stuck in a time loop, and every time you wake up at six the next morning, it's still April 9th?"

In the hallway of the school, Yukinoshita Yukino crossed her arms, her right hand's fingers pressing thoughtfully against her fair chin.

Her beautiful eyes were fixed on the handsome boy in front of her, with an unmistakable expression of pity for an idiot.

It was already after school.

She stood upright, her slender, graceful figure poised perfectly. Her shapely legs, wrapped in black thigh-high socks, were strikingly well-proportioned and alluring.

"To be precise, even if I stay awake all night and reach six o'clock, time will still reset back to today—April 9th."

Fushimi Makoto spoke calmly.

Even though the beautiful girl before him was clearly expressing with her eyes, I have no interest and no patience to listen to your sci-fi story.

"Oh."

Yukino nodded lightly, her tone growing even colder. "Is there anything else you wanted, Fushimi-san?"

Fushimi Makoto, however, asked, "Aren't you about to go find Hiratsuka-sensei?"

Yukino's brows furrowed slightly.

Before she could speak, he continued, "You're planning to talk to Hiratsuka-sensei about the club activities, right?"

Her expression finally changed. "How do you know that?"

Fushimi Makoto's attitude remained indifferent. "The answer is right in the question."

"Time loop?"

Yukino's delicate brows furrowed even deeper.

She thought he was completely making things up.

But she really was planning to find Hiratsuka Shizuka to discuss club matters.

"I know you don't believe me yet. Let's go to the faculty office together. Though, Hiratsuka-sensei has already left," Fushimi Makoto offered.

Yukino was briefly stunned. "Left?"

"You can call her now. She'll say, 'Sorry, I have something really important today.'"

Fushimi Makoto added, "That important thing she's talking about is a matchmaking meeting. But in the end, the other party stands her up, and she ends up drinking beer alone in a park."

Yukino: "..."

She was at a loss for words.

Fushimi Makoto's demeanor was so natural that even her keen insight couldn't detect a hint of fabrication.

Which meant he was telling the truth.

But...

How was that possible?

Yukino stayed silent for a long moment before speaking coldly, "I'll verify it right now."

Fushimi Makoto followed alongside her.

Yukino didn't object.

When the two arrived at the faculty office, it was just as Fushimi Makoto had said—other teachers informed her that Hiratsuka Shizuka had left early today.

Subconsciously, Yukino glanced at Fushimi Makoto, who simply raised a hand and gestured politely.

She understood. He was signaling for her to call.

Without wasting words, she pulled out her phone and dialed Hiratsuka Shizuka's number.

When she explained she needed to see her, Hiratsuka's response matched exactly what Fushimi Makoto had predicted.

"Sorry, Yukino. I have something really important today. Are you in a rush? Maybe we can talk tonight when I'm free?"

Listening to Hiratsuka's gentle voice, Yukino's chest rose and fell slightly as she maintained her composure. "Okay."

After hanging up, Yukino's beautiful eyes returned to Fushimi Makoto.

This time, her gaze flickered, and her voice was less composed. "Why?"

Fushimi Makoto replied, "Because I've been through this conversation countless times already."

Yukino caught the key point: "So, you've been coming to find me often in the time loop?"

"I even tried multiple times to win you over."

"???"

Yukino almost short-circuited.

Her pretty face turned cold. "If what you're saying is true, then why me?"

Fushimi Makoto remained as composed as ever. "Because aside from you, whether it's Kasumigaoka-senpai or the famous quintuplets at school, they all treated it like a joke."

Yukino fell silent again.

Her emotions were complicated.

She had heard from her mother that the quintuplets' father was a valuable connection, which was why she had been enrolled at this school.

As a first-year, she had only been attending this school for less than a week.

Because of her beauty, she had already become as renowned as Kasumigaoka Utaha, a second-year.

Meanwhile, Fushimi Makoto and Hayama Hayato, because of their good looks, were currently the two most popular boys in school.

Before today, Yukino and Fushimi Makoto hadn't even properly spoken to each other.

Their only interaction had been a brief nod of greeting in the hallway.

"Want to take a walk with me?"

At that moment, Fushimi Makoto's voice sounded.

Yukino instinctively asked, "Where to?"

"To give you more chances to verify what I'm saying."

Upon hearing that, Yukino didn't respond verbally but quietly followed him.

They left the school building together.

Suddenly, Fushimi Makoto said, "Over there at the soccer club, someone twisted their ankle. The kind-hearted Hayama-kun will help them to the infirmary."

Yukino's steps paused slightly, and she instinctively turned her head.

Sure enough, within ten seconds, she saw Hayama Hayato helping an injured classmate walk by.

"Let's go," Fushimi Makoto resumed walking.

Yukino took a deep breath, her breathing growing slightly rapid.

Tension and excitement mixed in her chest.

Countless emotions exploded in her mind.

After leaving the school grounds and walking just a short distance, Fushimi Makoto stopped again.

This time, he didn't rush to speak. Instead, he took out his phone, pulled up the alarm clock screen under Yukino's watchful eyes, and set an alarm for one minute later.

After setting it, he handed the phone to Yukino.

Yukino looked down, puzzled. "What's this?"

"Hold it. Stay here and don't move," Fushimi Makoto instructed simply.

Still confused, Yukino took the phone.

Then she watched Fushimi Makoto walk across the street.

With about thirty seconds left before the alarm would go off, a mother and her child approached from the opposite direction.

Fushimi Makoto deliberately slowed down, meeting them in the middle of the road.

With twenty seconds left, Yukino saw Fushimi Makoto, without explanation, pushing the mother and child forward.

"Eh? What are you doing?"

The confused and startled voices of the mother and child rang out, but Fushimi Makoto calmly continued pushing them along.

With ten seconds left until the alarm, Yukino suddenly heard a sharp roar of an engine.

She barely had time to lift her head and look toward the source of the sound.

A black car, engine screaming like it was floored, came hurtling toward them at high speed.

At the same moment, Fushimi Makoto shoved the mother and child toward the curb—and the black car roared right through the spot they had just been standing.

The timing was perfect.

From pushing the mother and child aside to dodging the speeding car, Fushimi Makoto moved with an almost casual grace.

Before Yukino could even react with shock, the black car crashed straight into a roadside shop.

With a deafening crash, shards of glass and debris flew into the air, swirling and scattering messily across the ground.

The car lay wrecked and motionless. Passersby who had witnessed the scene were either frozen with fear or immediately rushed over.

Yukino stood frozen in place.

At that moment, the alarm on Fushimi Makoto's phone rang out—the mellow chime piercing the air.

Though the alarm wasn't loud, to Yukino's ears it sounded deafening.

It felt as though all other sounds had disappeared, and only the alarm remained.

The crash and the alarm had coincided perfectly.

Not a second off.

Staring blankly, Yukino clutched Fushimi Makoto's phone tightly and looked across the street.

Fushimi Makoto was also looking at her. His lips moved silently.

Although there was no sound, Yukino understood.

"Do you believe me now?"

That's what Fushimi Makoto said.

Yukino's heart pounded violently.

Her crimson lips trembled as she whispered, "Why?"

The first time, she was asking why Fushimi Makoto knew what she was thinking.

The second time, she was asking why such a thing had happened.

Obviously, she completely believed him now.
