12th Division Headquarters
Yes, after much deliberation, Kaito had finally chosen his division.
Among all the options, the 12th Division was the only one that made sense.
Not just because of its functions — science, spiritual development, technological creation — but because the path to the top was clear.
> "Among all the divisions, this is the only one where I know the captain's position will become vacant."
This wasn't a guess.
It came from privileged information — courtesy of the System.
A few days earlier, Kaito had seen the following:
> [Character Login: Urahara Kisuke]
Condition: Be exiled from the Soul Society
Reward: Hōgyoku (Urahara's version)
Kaito frowned, thoughtful.
> "Yeah… the system really isn't kind to Urahara."
But instead of feeling pity...
Kaito strategized.
> "Even if Aizen doesn't frame Urahara like in the original… I will."
If destiny needed a push to follow its course,
Kaito would be that push.
---
But that plan was for the future.
The present required full focus.
And before him, another translucent screen appeared:
> [Location Login: 12th Division]
Condition: Free Mayuri Kurotsuchi
Reward: Dr. Gero's Memories (DBZ)
Kaito smirked.
> "The system really has a sense of humor... Poor Urahara."
Dramatically, he pretended to wipe away a tear that never existed.
Then his gaze turned serious.
> "Freeing Mayuri might be difficult for ordinary people…"
"But for a high noble, unless it involves other nobles or Yamamoto himself, it won't be hard."
---
Mayuri Kurotsuchi had been imprisoned in the Maggot's Nest for his dangerous thoughts.
Yes, he had conducted experiments on civilians and low-ranking Shinigami — resulting in deaths —
but in the Soul Society, as long as you don't touch nobles, that's not considered a serious crime.
> "In the original story, Urahara freed him just by using his status as a captain."
"There might've been a nudge from Yoruichi, but the point is: freeing Mayuri isn't hard."
> "And even after Urahara's exile, Mayuri remained in the Gotei 13 and even became a captain."
"It's really ironic: Urahara freed Mayuri… and he took his seat."
"Now the system wants me to exile Urahara… and free Mayuri."
"That bastard Urahara."
---
The issue of the release was settled.
But what intrigued Kaito now was the reward.
It took him a moment to remember the name Dr. Gero — it had been a long time since he'd watched the Cell Saga from Dragon Ball.
But once he remembered… he got excited.
> "Dr. Gero… The scientist who created the Androids."
"Artificial life at its peak. Energy absorption. Cybernetic and organic technology."
> "He's definitely on par with Mayuri and Urahara."
Receiving the memories of a scientist like that would instantly place Kaito at the top of the Soul Society's scientific hierarchy.
But Kaito was pragmatic.
> "Even with Dr. Gero's memories, I can't apply everything immediately."
"Different universes, different rules. Energy, matter, spiritual logic — it all has to be translated."
Even so…
> "As a foundation, it's more than enough."
"I just need time."
