Chapter 18 - Chapter 18: Answer All The Questions Below

Oscar and the pale man both appeared in the ruins of a city mall which had already been wrecked by zombies. However now it was filled with people over thirties and stacks of drugs being offloaded to the mall.

"Where's this place?" Oscar questioned as they strolled through the building.

"What do your people call it? Uh… a cartel," the pale man replied.

"They cook drugs in a cartel. I don't see any smokes."

"This is gonna be our new base. The federal agents won't find us here. It's an infected area after all"

Oscar was puzzled as to why anyone would want to pollute the world, "Why are you doing this?"

The pale man raised a finger to him to shut him up, "Huh-uh."

He opened up the toilet door and gestured Oscar in with a nod of his head. He then followed after him and shut the door.

Inside the toilet were two iron chairs facing each other. The pale man took a seat and stared at Oscar plainly who got the message and took the other seat.

"Now, ask your questions."

"Why are you doing this?"

"Ah-ah-ah-ah," he raised a finger again gesturing Oscar to shut up.

"We each get five questions. And we answer correctly," he laid out the rules. "Now, ask."

Oscar sighed and stared directly into his eyes, "Why are you doing this?"

"Doing what? Be specific," the pale man replied hastily.

"Why're you killing people?"

"I'm not. The zombies are."

"Who controls the zombies?"

"Not me."

"If not you, who?"

"Another person."

Oscar sighed, "Which other person?"

"A human being I suppose."

Oscar's agitated, "Why's he doing this?"

"That's five questions," the pale man cut him off. "My turn."

"How did you get your powers?"

"Miraculously," Oscar replied, following the pale man's energy.

The pale man leaned back, he felt that.

"Did you or did you not take the drug?"

"I seized it from my friend once and burnt it. So yes, I took it in my palm."

The pale man froze for a second then continued, "Ever swallowed it?"

"Swallowed what? Be specific."

"Hmm," he hummed. "Who gave you your powers?"

"Not the drug."

"I know the drug didn't. Who was the last person you saw before you got your powers?"

"A human being I suppose."

The pale man smiled, "Impressive. Now each person gets four questions."

"What's your—"

"Let's make this even more interesting," he interrupted Oscar and stood up to get two long wires each wrapped around a watch on its edge with the other end connected to a big screen on the wall beside them.

"A lie detector," he wore his and handed Oscar the other one to wear.

"How can I tell if this works?" Oscar was skeptical.

"What's your name?"

"Oscar Rife," Oscar replied.

The big screen popped up with a big green button that spelt 'True.'

"How old are you?"

"16," he responded.

'True' popped up on the screen again.

"Now, ask the questions."

"You already wasted two of yours," Oscar stared dead into his eyes.

"That wasn't a part of the game," the pale man defended.

"The game started as soon as we got in this room. I remember you activating it."

"Hmm, fair. Means you got three questions left yourself," the pale man calculated his score.

"Fair. What's your name?"

"They call me the Seventh. Seven for short."

The screen popped up with green.

"And why's that?"

"I'm one of the seven personal guards of the demon king. The new one."

The screen lit up with green again.

Oscar was vividly shocked, his eyelids expanded, "What're you doing in the mortal realm?"

"Here to carry out an operation he sent me on," he sunk into his chair. "My turn."

The man pale man's green streak continued.

"What human being gave you your powers?"

"An human that… an human that-that lived once… but dead now," Oscar stuttered.

The screen defended Oscar with green.

The pale man smiled, "Give me their name."

At this point Oscar was on the hot seat, "Ma-Matt Rife."

The screen lit up with red and the word 'False.'

"Adam Rife," Oscar panicked and rectified.

Seven chuckled, "Now, we each get three questions. Let's make this even more interesting. Every time you lie the zombies will hunt down five innocent children. And anytime I lie, I give off five territories back to the military. Which means I kill some zombies for them."

"I'm in."

"Good," he gave off an emotionless smile. "Ask."

'He must know something about the underground. Ask about Nora? Ask about Nora?' Oscar thought to himself.

"Do you know the names of everyone in the underground?"

"I don't."

The green popped up.

'What if he doesn't know about her and I tell him. I'd be drawing more attention to Nora's quest... Bad attention.'

"Do any of them have powers?"

"Only a few humans, yes."

Green popped up.

"What's her name?"

"I don't know who you're talking about."

The green popped up once again.

As Oscar lips moved Seven raised his, "My turn."

"Adam Rife. Is that your dad?"

"Yes."

The green popped up.

"He stole from the lab he was working at. The government project, true or false?"

"True," Oscar affirmed with the green on the screen supporting his claim.

"Why did he give you the powers?"

"To protect me from people like you."

Seven laughed, "Do they often tell you you're funny?"

"You're out. My turn. I'm guessing each person gets two questions now."

"Correct."

"Who's your human counterpart that's in charge of this massacre?"

"Eric Green."

'True' popped up in all its green lights.

"What does he hope to achieve?"

"Respect. Power. God status. Give people drugs and they get addicted, give people drugs that give powers and much more people get addicted. And then what? You'd see."

"You asked me a question. You have only one left," Oscar pointed out.

"I already know everything there is I want to know, except one," he leaned in. "If your powers were given to you to protect yourself, why do you fight us?"

"Because you're destroying a perfectly fine world," Oscar replied harshly. "My turn. I'd guess one question each."

"Correct. You may begin."

"If giving people powers and becoming god was his purpose, why does he need the zombies?"

"A distraction. The government is focused on the wrong things. Even you Oscar, this is only the tip of the iceberg."

"What's coming?" Oscar was fazed.

"My turn. Join us, what's your prize?"
