Chapter 15 - Season 1 - Episode 13 - Mother and Son, The Cornells

After a short drive, Chris Cornell and the scout pulled up to a home, a modest house in a regular neighborhood in Seattle. The place is welcoming, but not extravagant. It was clear the family was a regular one, but the house feels lived-in and full of love.

Chris Cornell hesitated as he looked at the front door. He was unsure of how his mother would react to this sudden situation.

"Do not worry, Kid. We will just talk for a short while. I am sure your mother will understand where I am coming from." The scout said.

"I do not know... I have never had anyone just show up and talk about music like this. She might be worried about what it all means." Chris Cornell said.

The scout nodded and smiled, understanding where Chris Cornell was coming from. He followed Chris Cornell up to the door, where Chris Cornell rang the bell.

The door opened, revealing Chris Cornell's mother, a warm, caring woman in her mid 40s, dressed casually. She looked surprised to see a stranger with Chris Cornell at the door.

"Chris? Who is this?" Karen Cornell asked.

"Uh... Hi, Mom. This is... well, this is Mr. Bourne. He, uh, heard me singing earlier today." Chris Cornell said.

"Good afternoon, Ma'am. My name is Jason Bourne, and I represent an independent music label. I heard Chris sing earlier, and I was really impressed. I think he got something special." The scout, Jason, said politely.

"I see. And... What exactly are you asking of him?" Karen doubtfully asked.

"I would love for Chris to consider working with us. I know it is a big step, but I think he has real potential. I am not here to rush him into anything, just to have a conversation about what might come next for him." Jason answered.

"Chris has always had a passion for music. But he is only sixteen. I want to be sure this is something he is ready for. He is young, and I do not want anyone taking advantage of that." Karen told Jason her worries.

"I completely understand. I am not here to pressure him. I just see a lot of promise in his voice, and I believe it is worth exploring. But we will do it at his pace, on his terms. Does that sound good?" Jason patiently added.

"Alright, I am listening. This is all a lot for me to process, but I have always supported Chris's love for music. I just want to make sure that if he takes this step, it is the right decision." Karen replied.

"Of course. There is no rush. I would love for you to meet with the folks at the label, perhaps visit our office in Westport City. It is not too far, and you can get a sense of who we are and what we stand for. If you feel comfortable, we can talk more about the opportunities we're offering Chris. It is all about finding the right fit." Jason detailed.

"You know, that sounds reasonable. I do not want to rush into anything without fully understanding what is being offered. If you're willing to meet with us and show us what you are about, then I will consider it." Karen smiled.

"Thanks, Mom. I will think it through. This feels big, but it could be the chance I have been dreaming about." Chris exclaimed.

"I know. But we will figure this out together. I will go with you, Chris. We will talk, meet the people, and see what makes sense." Karen comforted her son.

"That sounds like a good plan. I will set up the details for the visit. It will give you both a chance to ask questions, and for us to show you what we are about." Jason clapped and smiled.

"Why don't you come in for a moment? Let us have some coffee, and you can tell me more about your label and what you are offering." Karen invited Jason in.

The scout stepped inside, and Chris's mother invited him to sit at the kitchen table. When they settled in, she asked more about the label's history, its values, and what kind of opportunities it offered her son.

Jason told some superficial things about James' company to Karen Cornell and after a short brief and some details, Jason walked out of Chris Cornell's door but still had to say his goodbyes to the mother and son.

"I appreciate you taking the time to meet us today. We will think about it, and we will definitely make a decision together as a family. But if you are serious about this, a visit to your office sounds like a good next step." Karen said.

"Thank you for being so open to this. I will make sure everything is set up. I think you will see we are a good fit for Chris, but only time will tell. Whenever you are ready, just give me a call." Jason smiled.

"Alright, we will take it from here. Thank you for your time. We will talk again soon." Karen smiled, and when Jason got into his rental, and drove off, she closed the door and had another conversation with Chris Cornell.
