Saturday morning arrived with the subtlety of a marching band on a sugar high.
Lucy woke to the jarring buzz of her phone vibrating violently against the wooden nightstand. Sunlight streamed through the partially closed blinds, cutting across the bed in golden slashes. Cole's arm was slung lazily over her waist, warm and heavy, as if trying to anchor her to sleep. But her phone had other plans.
Three emails with the subject line "URGENT" glared back at her. The fourth was from Forbes.
Her heart stuttered.
She sat up too fast and smacked her head on the headboard. "Ow," she hissed, clutching her skull.
Cole stirred beside her, cracking one eye open. "Was that you or the universe slapping back?"
"Maybe both," she muttered, already opening the email.

Her stomach dropped. "Oh no."
Cole propped himself up on one elbow, his hair a chaotic mess of curls. "Oh yes."
