Chapter 15 - She who had asked him for a divorce, was now in another man's embrace?

Chen Yiran's footsteps echoed down the hospital corridor. She didn't know where she was going, only that she needed to move. The weight in her chest was suffocating. Everything from today was pressing down on her, suffocating her.

Whatever the previous Chen Yiran had done to make Wang Zichen hate her this much, she had to find out and know it, so she could know how to deal with it.

Then she stopped.

Energy hospital.

Her eyes darted to the sign on the wall. That's right. This was where she had sent IV for testing with her assistant, Zhang Mei. The one thing she hadn't had time to deal with. But now? Now was as good a time as any.

Chen Yiran turned on her heel and headed straight for the nurse's station. She knew every hospital had a nurse station on every department right at the corner like an afterthought.

She reached the nurse station. The nurse on duty stationed there was already dozing off.

Chen Yiran without hesitation, she knocked once on the desk, firm and quick.

The nurse looked up immediately and straightened as she stood up hurriedly, her posture snapping upright.

"Miss Chen!" she called out her voice unusually high.

"My assistant sent a vial for a test. I want the results." Chen Yiran didn't bother with the pleasantries.

The nurse fumbled for a folder, flipping through it hastily before stopping, "The results are in Dr. Renata's office." She announced.

"Then get it!" She ordered as she certainly didn't see the reason the nurse was informing her rather that going for the results.

"Miss Chen, I don't have access..." one look from Chen Yiran was sure to tell her she wasn't in a good mood, "I'll get it!"

The VIP test results were stored securely in the presiding doctor's office. Without another word, the nurse hurried off and left the station.

Chen Yiran exhaled, her fingers tapping impatiently drumming an erratic rhythm against the counter. The wait was barely a few minutes, but she was impatient.

When the nurse finally returned, she handed over the sealed envelope, "Here it is, Miss Chen."

Chen Yiran didn't bother waiting. She walked past the nurse's station and sank into one of the waiting chairs at the reception, but her heart pounded in her chest.

Her eyes skimmed over the report and a bitter humorless laugh almost escaped her lips. Insulin.

She had suspected it, but seeing it confirmed in black and white sent a cold wave through her. It was obviously orchestrated by an amateur.

Insulin, the drug saved lives when used correctly but turned deadly when given to someone without diabetes.

Her grip on the paper tightened as she moved to the next part of the report.

Two possibilities. Digoxin or Levothyroxine.

A heart failure drug and a hormone replacement medication. The results were inconclusive. They needed a test subject.

Chen Yiran exhaled sharply, 'A test subject?'

She scoffed as she almost laughed. The previous Chen Yiran was gone. If they tested her now, they'd find nothing. The body she was in belonged to someone else. The real Chen Yiran who had died, taking her own medical history with her.

So what now?

She could only speculate but between the two, Levothyroxine was the only reasonable medicine since it was possibly injected by the doctor after the original Chen Yiran's heartbeat spiked.

Chen Yiran leaned back against the chair, the papers crumpling in her hands. It was no longer a thought. Someone with a motive wanted her dead.

Chen Yiran sat there, lost in thought, gripping the test results, her mind spinning. Everything around her blurred into the background.

Then suddenly, arms wrapped around her from behind.

Her breath caught.

"Yiran, I missed you." A man's voice, low and full of yearning, whispered near her ear.

Her entire body stiffened.

Meanwhile, back in the hospital room. Wang Zichen hadn't moved from where Chen Yiran left him. He had to stay watching his daughter.

The door swung open and Travis walked in, "I heard your daughter is in the hospital. What happened?"

Wang Zichen didn't answer nor acknowledge him. His eyes were on Azalea's sleeping tiny body.

When Wang Zichen didn't answer as he had expected, he moved to where Azalea was sleeping at, "She's really cute. I want to steal her!" Travis announced with hearts in his eyes.

Wang Zichen didn't respond but there was a subtle change in his eyes as if he couldn't deny the fact that his daughter was cute.

Travis unfazed, turned to Wang Zichen as he kept talking not caring for the silent treatment he got, "Seriously, how can you be so heartless? You went on a business trip and didn't tell me. I had to find out about it from Assistant Qin!" he complained. One would even think he was Wang Zichen's wife.

The loud voice from Travis made Azalea stir from her sleep.

One glare. Travis shut up.

Wang Zichen pressed the call button to call the doctors as he didn't know what to do now Azalea was stirring awake.

Within seconds, Dr. Xu and some nurses came inside the room to check on the baby.

"The young mistress needs to be fed." Dr. Xu adjusted her glasses.

"Where is your wife by the way?" Travis asked with his never-ending curiosity.

Wang Zichen's expression darkened.

Without a word, he turned and strode out of the room.

He wanted to find Chen Yiran. She needed to feed their daughter.

When Wang Zichen strode out of the room, his eyes scanned the hallway, searching for Chen Yiran. His steps were quick, his mind set on finding her- until he stopped in his tracks.

A few feet ahead, Chen Yiran sat frozen as a man wrapped his arms around her shoulder from behind.

Wang Zichen's jaw clenched. The sight was jarring, unexpected.

It was understandable that after everything that had happened that day, Chen Yiran was a bit emotional. But she who had asked him for a divorce, was now in another man's embrace?

His fingers curled into fists at his sides, but his face remained unreadable.

Instead of rushing forward, he watched.

Observed.

Waiting to see what she would do.
