Chapter 34 - CHAPTER 34: VARIOUS WORKS

Rimuru's idea was simple: since they planned to build a nation in the future, they would inevitably need a large population. Accepting more people now would help expand the village and accelerate its development.

Of course, the work with the Kaijin dwarves might end up being a bit rushed—after all, they were taking in a lot of new residents.

"Alright! Granstar and I accept your request. But you must remember..."

Rimuru agreed to the goblins' plea and then explained the village's principles and rules.

The goblins immediately knelt, overwhelmed with gratitude.

There were a total of four tribes, numbering around five hundred goblins in all. However, one major problem gave Rimuru a headache—naming them.

Thankfully, Granstar had a magic potion prepared. Without it, the process might have ended in disaster.

It took two days to name everyone. Only someone like Rimuru would be so generous with names.

Afterward, Rimuru summoned the goblin chiefs.

The newly evolved chiefs knelt in a line before Rimuru and Granstar.

Led by Rigurd, the other chiefs were named Rogurd, Regurd, and Rugurd. However, one of the four was a woman. Rimuru gave her a name more fitting for a female: Lilina.

"Listen well! I now bestow upon you ranks!"

Rigurdo would be promoted to Goblin King, a rank above the others.

The remaining four—including Lilina—would be appointed Goblin Lords.

Around them, the goblins of all four villages knelt, eyes fixed on the two figures at the center.

"Yes! Thank you very much!" they chorused.

At that moment, a cheer erupted around them. In this way, the goblin village's population multiplied, opening a new chapter in its history.

Later…

"Mirut, can you make this?"

Granstar looked expectantly at the third of the dwarf brothers, handing him a detailed blueprint—a blueprint of a modern building.

"Lord Granstar, the technology in this design is far beyond what I've studied. I'll need time to research it!"

Mirut stared at the drawings, already forming a rough understanding in his mind. Still, the detail was overwhelming.

"Lord Granstar, what are the craftsmanship standards? And these materials—cement and steel—what are they?"

Granstar explained patiently.

"The tolerances must be precise. Don't worry about the materials—I've already had Rimuru produce them."

"Oh!"

"From now on, construction of the village's buildings will be your responsibility, Mirut."

"Understood, Lord Granstar! I won't let you down."

Granstar patted him on the shoulder and walked away.

The village could now be considered a town. Granstar believed it was time to embrace modern architecture, so he had brought out a blueprint for a major project: Rimuru's new residence.

Inside Rimuru's current home…

Rimuru frowned, staring at a parchment spread across his desk. It showed a rough layout of the village.

"Ugh… how should I plan this? I really don't get it..."

He muttered to himself, clearly stuck.

"Rimuru, what are you doing?"

Granstar strode in. He hadn't seen Rimuru bouncing around lately and found the change oddly unsettling.

As soon as he entered, he saw Rimuru scribbling on the parchment, looking frustrated.

Rimuru's eyes lit up at the sight of him.

"Granstar! Help me out—where should we place all these buildings?"

Apparently, the village's rapid growth meant they now needed to build medical centers and defense posts. But those couldn't just be placed randomly—they needed an actual urban plan.

It was like constructing a city. Without a well-thought-out layout, things would quickly fall into chaos.

"What's so difficult about this?"

Granstar took the pen from Rimuru and began sketching confidently on the map.

Rimuru leaned in, curious.

"First, you need to plan the roads," Granstar explained, drawing lines to form a grid.

"Look here—this area is near a water source. That makes it ideal for residences, which we'll designate as the residential zone."

He pointed to the opposite side of the water.

"And over here, we can have a cultivation zone—perfect for crops. This flatter area here will serve as the training grounds for our troops."

The more Rimuru listened, the brighter his eyes became.

"Look at the confluence of these roads—that's the center of the village. I think we can build a large square here. It could be used for banquets and public announcements!"

Granstar finally finished speaking.

Rimuru stared at him with admiration. What a brilliant idea—starting with the road layout. The issue that's been bothering me for so long… it's nothing to Granstar.

"Granstar, I think I should hand over my position as the big boss to you…"

Rimuru grabbed Granstar's hand, his expression unusually serious.

No!

Rimuru, how could you have such a terrifying idea?!

Blumund Kingdom

A man sat quietly in his office. His name was Fuze. He belonged to the Free Guild of the small nation of Blumund and served as the local branch manager.

Per Veryard orders, he had previously dispatched a team to investigate the sudden disappearance of the Storm Dragon Veldora's aura from the Jura Forest. That same investigation team was now due to return with their report.

Because it was a confidential mission, the debriefing could only be conducted in the reception room.

Fuze waited in silence as the team entered and slumped onto the sofas, showing little regard for decorum.

The corners of Fuze's mouth twitched slightly.

Before him sat a rather unusual trio—two men and one woman, all C-rank adventurers.

Gido, the stealth expert, was a [Thief] skilled at gathering information.

Kabal, the front-liner with outstanding defensive power, was a [Heavy Warrior]. Though he spoke in a carefree manner, he was reliable and attentive in battle.

Elyun, who specialized in arcane arts, was a [Sorcerer] known for her colorful magic. Her teleportation spells were particularly remarkable, making her vital to the team's survival.

This rookie trio had been tasked with investigating the cave where Veldora had once been sealed.

"Report. Now," Fuze ordered coldly, his voice void of emotion.

"It was hell out there…" Gido groaned.

"I want a bath. A hot one. Right now…" Elyun whined.

"What was really hellish," Kabal muttered, "was me being stuck as the referee between big brother and big sister the whole time…"

Fuze's expression darkened as a metaphorical black line appeared on his forehead.

They didn't even hear me just now…

BANG!

Fuze slammed the table, startling the trio.

"What are you even arguing about?! Do you know where you are? This is a confidential debriefing! Just report and leave when you're done!"

Grumbling, he slumped back into his chair.

The three adventurers straightened up and began their report in earnest.

Ah…

Being a wage earner is rough.
