Chapter 40 - 40. Full Set of School Armor

A day quickly passed, and there wasn't much for Lann to explore in this city.

The things he wanted to play with always exceeded his expectations in terms of price, like a store selling magic amulets.

Inside, there were amulets for resisting bad luck, amulets for curing hiccups, and more, but just trying them out would cost money.

In terms of functionality, Lann always felt these things were meant to fool people, taken out by the warlocks.

Additionally, there was a medical clinic that also sold magic cream, rumored to significantly improve marital relations and help wealthy women win back their husbands' hearts.

These shops were all opened by warlocks.

Of course, their prices reflected this understanding well.

Putting aside these most alluring magical powers, for Lann, the appeal of Gos Velen significantly decreased.

Back in his home world, perhaps a large shopping mall wouldn't attract just three to five thousand people during the holidays.

Located at Round Street was the fish market, where catches from all over Velen gathered, and the strong fishy smell attracted all the nearby cats.

These furry little creatures, due to their ability to sense chaotic energy, were very reluctant to interact with Demon Hunters.

But Lann felt quite pleasant just watching from the outside.

After eating and drinking, it was time to retrieve his armor.

Lann tightened the sword strap on himself, feeling a bit excited about receiving new equipment.

He had never fully worn this set of advanced Bear School Armor before, imagining that when the steel inner lining pressed against his body, it would surely provide a comforting sense of security.

With armor thick enough to withstand monster attacks, the future battles will have a significantly increased margin for maneuver.

"Ding-a-ling-" a light chime sounded, the bell at the blacksmith's workshop door reminding of the arrival of a guest.

Lann stepped back into the shop and found only Fergus and Yuna still there.

"Stop looking, the master will rest once he's done, and besides, he isn't keen on seeing a customer who came with a free coupon."

Fergus stood on the stool behind the counter, arms crossed.

This made his head as high as Yuna's.

The two together made a clanking sound, putting a big heap of steel onto the counter.

These were the components of the armor after modification.

Lann reached inside the chain mail that served as the main part, kneading and rubbing hard, feeling the texture of the steel.

"Can't notice the big rip in the abdomen from before at all... excellent craftsmanship."

"Of course!" Fergus proudly puffed out his chest and raised his head, "This is the work of Master Butcher!"

Lann nodded slightly, now completely immersed in the hard texture of the steel.

He immediately removed his cotton armor outer cover with Yuna's help.

The armor was worn layer by layer onto his body, with the inner chain mail first, followed by the plate armor pieces as protection for vital parts.

Then came leather armor at the groin and knee areas.

Once the cotton armor outer cover was put back on last, Lann's body increased in thickness by a whole notch!

Raise the hand.

The steel rubbed against each other layer by layer under the cotton armor, making a faint "ding-a-ling" sound.

With a slight exertion, the muscles on the arm swelled and inflated with blood!

"Creak-creak-"

The connections of the armor groaned under the pressure, but the structure remained perfectly intact.

The tension between the swelling muscles and the steel structure gave Lann a thrill of grappling with steel!

Heavy, yet safe and powerful!

Simply put—it's awesome!

Excluding piercing-type attacks, once the full armor was on, Lann's resistance to slashing, cutting damage was completely on another level than before.

The meaning of a good set of armor lies precisely in this—higher tolerance for mistakes.

"Whoa—good workmanship!" The relaxed Lann praised again.

Though he was relaxed, Yuna and Fergus together swallowed their saliva.

A dwarf and a human looked at each other and saw each other's eyes wide open.

Never, never seen someone so adapted after putting on armor!

The two worked in Tuer Butcher's shop, receiving many customers on a regular basis, and had seen a lot.

Normally, after wearing armor, the increased weight would make it hard for a person to manage their balance.

So one might wobble while walking, swing too hard to stop when cutting, miss the mark...

Turning around and spraining the waist wasn't unheard of either.

Because the external weight easily shifted the long-established human balance position.

But just now—what was that?!

Muscles swelling to the point where the armor's connections creaked?

—Could you just tear the armor apart directly?!

If it weren't for the tanned monster leather used as armor plate connectors, you could really rip the armor apart, right?

Are Demon Hunters of such strength?

"Ah, I'm a Bear School Demon Hunter, our strength is a bit greater."

As if seeing their amazement, Lann explained while raising his arms and adapting to the armor.

The two nodded numbly.

So "a bit greater" was this concept, those previous books were really read for nothing.

Wait!

Fergus shook his head first, coming back to his senses.

They shouldn't be tangled up in these matters now.

While Lann started trying jumps, sudden stops, and other actions, Fergus approached him and spoke candidly.

"Uh-huh, customer. You must have noticed the unusual interaction between me and Yuna yesterday, right?"

Lann didn't expect him to be so straightforward and stopped to look at Yuna.

The human female attendant was deliberately sweeping the floor now.

"Why are you looking at her? Look at me! You and I have no vested interest, so I'll tell you straight."

"Yuna is actually the second-best blacksmith in this shop, but she's human, and a woman, making things inconvenient. So we benefit each other, she learns the craft, and I gain status."

Fergus scratched his chin, then continued.

"Yesterday, when you came, she was dazzled by this heirloom-level armor, so she lost her composure."

"I heard you caught the culprit desecrating Meretelli to earn that free coupon, you're a good person. So I'm asking you, could you not reveal this to the master?"

"You're different from others, you're going to wear this heirloom armor into battle, you're sure to come many times, Velen only has a master-level blacksmith here, so I had to explain."

After saying a bunch of things, Fergus seemed carefree, but was actually watching the young man tensely.

Yuna beside him wore the same expression.

In the slightly tense atmosphere, Lann began to smile.

"As you said, Fergus. We have no vested interest in each other, I won't reveal your matters to the master. After all... you are friends, right?"

Fergus immediately relaxed after receiving the promise.

A good person is always able to gain others' trust.

"Ha! Yeah, me and Yuna are really in sync good friends. To be honest, if she wasn't so thin and tall, and had a nice beard, I'd want to marry her!"

"Fergus!"

Yuna called him helplessly.

The expression wasn't shy, but of the many times experienced helplessness.

"Haha." Lann was also amused by the dwarf's straightforwardness and aesthetics, "Then there's even less reason for me to destroy a friendship helping each other."

They all became friends, Fergus continuously emphasized that when Lann came for repairs next time, he would offer the greatest discount and invite him to have a drink at Silver Swan Tavern.

Upon departure, this dwarf insisted on giving something for the young man to take along.

Eventually, after a circuit, it was Yuna who pulled out a deck of cards and handed them to Lann.

"Gwent cards, monster deck." The blonde braided girl smiled as she handed them to Lann. "Stuff passed down from the dwarf's homeland, Mahakan, and it's said to be all the rage now."

"Ah! I didn't remember it... but even if I did, it wouldn't matter, my cards are too lousy to show."

"Goodbye, Lann."

The girl and the dwarf escorted him to the city gate, the dwarf with a hearty laugh and the girl with a bright smile.

"Goodbye" wasn't a perfunctory farewell; they sincerely hoped to meet again.

Lann felt the same.

He tucked the deck of Gwent cards into his coat.

"Farewell, friends!"
