"Haruno-kun, you just focus on studying in class. Leave Lala to me. Whether she transfers or not... you'll find out during lunch break," Ryouko said with a clap of her hands and a playful wink.
With those words echoing in his mind, Haruno headed toward Class 1-A, the class he shared with Rito and Haruna. Not to mention other familiar faces from manga—Yui Kotegawa, Risa, Mio, and a bunch of other colorful characters.
"I can't wait to see them all in person... but at the same time, it's nerve-wracking. I missed the first day, so I never got to introduce myself properly..." Haruno muttered under his breath as he walked through the hallway, feeling a mix of excitement and dread. When he finally spotted the classroom with "1-A" written on the board, he took a deep breath and pushed open the door.
The moment he stepped inside, dozens of eyes turned toward him. Curious stares, puzzled looks, and even a few raised eyebrows greeted him like a silent wall of pressure. Trying not to panic, Haruno quickly scanned the room for someone who looked approachable—or at least familiar.
Spotting a serious-looking girl with black hair tied neatly, he made his move.
"Er, excuse me, I'm Haruno Aizawa... I missed class yesterday. Can you tell me where an empty seat is?" Haruno asked politely, trying his best to smile.
The girl glanced at him briefly before pointing at a vacant seat beside her. "Over here," she said simply.
"Thank you! Um... can I ask your name?"
She finally turned her full attention to him, her serious expression softening just slightly. "Yui Kotegawa. Nice to meet you."
Yui's voice faltered as her dark brown eyes locked onto Haruno's. For a brief moment, the world around them seemed to fade away. Haruno felt a jolt run through his body, like a soft electric current, accompanied by a melodic sound echoing faintly in his mind—a pleasant, almost nostalgic feeling he had only experienced before when meeting Ryouko and Lala.
In that instant, the girl before him seemed even more radiant. Her waist-length black hair shimmered under the sunlight streaming through the windows, her long bangs framing her forehead with a soft elegance. Her delicate features, already cute and beautiful, appeared even more vibrant to Haruno's eyes. Despite this being the third time he had felt such a strange connection, his cheeks warmed uncontrollably, and a faint blush crept onto his face.
On the other side, Yui found herself equally overwhelmed. In fact, for her, it was even more intense. Her heart raced wildly, her face flushed a bright crimson, and a warm, tingly sensation spread through her chest.
'W-What is this...? Why is my heart beating so fast...?' Yui thought frantically, struggling to maintain her composure. She had always viewed boys her age as nuisances—loud, rough, and immature. Yet, with just one glance at Haruno, all those prejudices melted away. A trumpet-like fanfare played joyfully in her mind, making her feel dizzy in the most pleasant way.
For someone who had always been serious, proper, and distant from boys except for her older brother, this was a completely new experience.
'Thankfully... he's sitting next to me...' Yui thought, her heart fluttering even more. A tiny, involuntary smile tugged at her lips as she dared to steal another glance at Haruno.
"So this is my seat then," Haruno said as he sat down beside Yui, carefully placing his bag under the desk. After a moment, he smiled and turned toward her. "Nice to meet you, Kotegawa-san. I hope we'll get along this year."
"Ah, y-yes. I would be happy if we get along too," Yui replied, her voice a little stiffer than she intended. She clutched the hem of her skirt lightly under the desk, nervous but determined to respond properly.
Haruno chuckled softly. "Really? That makes today even better. It feels like I'm lucky to have a nice classmate like you." He grinned warmly before continuing, trying to keep their conversation flowing naturally. "By the way, could Kotegawa-san tell me what happened yesterday? Since I missed my first day…"
Although he could have tried to find another soulmate in the class—as he had read about in The 100 Girlfriends—Haruno decided it was better to focus on one girl at a time. He didn't want to rush things.
"Ah, well… There wasn't anything too important," Yui replied, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. "This school isn't very strict. There's no real pressure to join clubs or anything. Oh, and… I was chosen as the class rep."
As they continued chatting, the conversation naturally shifted from school topics to lighter, more casual ones. Yui found herself genuinely enjoying the time they spent talking. Haruno wasn't like the boys she was used to—loud or troublesome. He was polite, easy to talk to, and surprisingly kind.
Gathering her courage, Yui spoke up, her voice slightly shy. "Um… How about I give you a little tour around the school during break time? Since I'm the class rep…"
"Really? You'd do that? I'd love that," Haruno answered without hesitation.
"Good," Yui said, trying to maintain a composed expression. But despite her efforts, a small, unmistakable smile bloomed across her face, full of excitement and anticipation.
When break time arrived, Haruno and Yui left the classroom together, casually strolling through the nearby halls. Yui pointed out a few rooms and general areas close to Class 1-A, though they hadn't moved very far yet. Their conversation remained light, flowing easily between them.
"So… you're not thinking about joining the Disciplinary Committee or anything?" Haruno asked as they headed toward the canteen, following the route Yui suggested.
"No, I think being the class rep is more than enough responsibility for me," Yui answered with a small chuckle.
"Is that so? How about a club then?" Haruno tilted his head curiously.
"Well…" Yui pondered for a moment before shaking her head. "I don't really see anything that interests me. And since the school doesn't enforce club participation, I figured focusing on class duties would be enough. What about you, Aizawa-san?"
Haruno grinned. "Actually, I'm thinking about starting a new club."
"A new club?" Yui blinked, a little surprised.
"Yeah. A brand-new club," Haruno nodded confidently.
The idea had struck him when he recalled how, in the 100 Girlfriends manga, the school rooftop often became a special place where everyone gathered. He thought having a private, comfortable clubroom could serve a similar purpose—especially with Lala already by his side and knowing that more heroines would likely appear. With Ryouko's support and a principal who probably wouldn't say no to anything involving cute girls, it seemed completely doable.
"That's why…" Haruno turned to her with a hopeful smile. "Kotegawa-san, would you be interested in joining my club?"
Yui widened her eyes slightly, caught off guard by the sudden invitation. But somewhere deep in her heart, the thought of spending more time with Haruno made her heart skip a beat.
"Eh… well, what kind of club are you trying to make?" Yui asked, tilting her head slightly. She tried to stay calm, but inside, she couldn't help imagining spending time together with Haruno, just the two of them. The idea was strangely intriguing, but she decided to play it cool and hear him out first.
"Hm… it's about aliens, I guess," Haruno said thoughtfully.
"Aliens…?" Yui blinked, completely caught off guard by the answer.
"Yeah! A club about fighting aliens!" he said with a proud grin.
"Fighting aliens!? Not researching or investigating if aliens exist?" Yui asked, her voice raising slightly in disbelief.
"Nope! To be honest, a few days ago, I wouldn't have believed in that stuff either. But after what happened yesterday... I'm convinced. In this vast world, there's definitely a lot of aliens out there!" Haruno said passionately, his eyes sparkling with sincerity.
Yui could only stare at him for a moment, half-expecting him to laugh and say it was a joke. But he didn't. He was completely serious. And somehow, that seriousness only made him even more endearing in her eyes.
'He's so pure… so cute… I have to protect this idiot from getting his dreams crushed,' Yui thought, her heart squeezing sweetly as she watched him.
After a small sigh, she smiled gently. "Okay. If you can get a teacher to approve your club… I'll join you."
"Really!? You promise, right!?" Haruno beamed, his face lighting up with genuine happiness.
Yui chuckled softly to herself. 'Ahh… seeing him smile like that makes my heart flutter nonstop... I'm doomed, aren't I?'
Well, in the end, love truly is blind.
