Chapter 60 - Talent Too Low

Jiang Xiaofeng was just about to come down for breakfast when he unexpectedly witnessed the scene unfolding before him.

"Xiaofeng, let it go,"Feng Lingling said as she walked up to him. "She's always had this kind of temper. She's not intentionally making things difficult for me."

Jiang Xiaofeng frowned. Not making things difficult? Then what is?

The head attendant saw the masked Jiang Xiaofeng and felt he looked familiar. It seemed there was an order from above yesterday — this was a VIP and absolutely not someone to offend, or it could cost lives.

"Young master, you might have misheard. This is just part of my job, I hope you understand. Right, Feng Lingling?"

Feng Lingling was just about to speak but was immediately blocked by Jiang Xiaofeng.

"Oh? Are you saying I'm deaf?"

The head attendant broke out in a cold sweat instantly.

"Young master, how could I say such a thing about you? You've misunderstood me, I meant..."

"Enough. I won't make things hard for you. Just apologize to Sister Ling and make sure her wages are paid in full. Also, on top of that, you'll need to compensate her. As for how much, you decide."

The head attendant had never been treated this way before. Usually, she ordered employees around like servants, and now someone was pointing at her and demanding an apology — and compensation too?

"Young master, I've done nothing wrong. I can pay her wages, but as for compensation, I can't accept that."

Jiang Xiaofeng asked: "Sister Ling, has she ever withheld your pay before?"

Feng Lingling shook her head and said: "Forget it. It's really nothing."

She didn't think it was worth it to make a fuss over such a trivial matter.

But Jiang Xiaofeng felt differently. In his previous life, he had no friends left. And even if he did, he couldn't protect them. This time, he refused to be so pathetic.

"Well then, if that's the case — you can get lost."

The head attendant didn't say a word, covered her face, and turned to leave.

"BOOM!!!"

Just as she turned around, the sofa area behind her was shattered by a single sword slash from Jiang Xiaofeng.

The commotion immediately drew a crowd of soul masters.

"What happened? They're actually fighting?"

"No idea. That manager was talking to the young guy earlier. Looked a bit tense!"

"Uh oh, this restaurant is backed by the Spirit Hall. That kid's in big trouble!"

"Yeah, classic case of young blood with no fear. He's picking the wrong fight!"

"The woman with him doesn't look like much either. Is this some cougar relationship?"

"Tsk tsk tsk... now this is entertainment, hahaha!"

The head attendant looked at the wrecked sofa area, her face turning even uglier.

"You brat, just you wait!"

With that, she stormed off angrily.

Feng Lingling shook her head and said: "Xiaofeng, you didn't have to go this far."

Jiang Xiaofeng replied: "I don't care if she looks down on others, but you're my friend, my teammate. We're a unit — that means I care."

"But..."

Feng Lingling wasn't worried about Jiang Xiaofeng's safety — after all, what could happen to a Holy Son of the Spirit Hall? She just didn't like seeing this kind of confrontation.

Not long after, the head attendant came rushing back with a middle-aged, overweight man.

"Who? Who the hell did this? Who's the blind fool that dared destroy my restaurant?!"

The fat man was fuming with rage.

The head attendant pointed at Jiang Xiaofeng and said: "It's him! And that former employee of ours!"

The fat man stared at Jiang Xiaofeng, stunned. A young punk bringing an ex-employee to cause trouble in his restaurant? Didn't even know how high the sky was!

"Kid, you must have a death wish! This restaurant is funded by the Spirit Hall! Now — immediately — pay ten times the value of the damages, or I swear, you won't walk out that door!"

Jiang Xiaofeng casually tapped the ring on his finger — The Moon Rises Over the Sea.

A token appeared in his hand.

Without hesitation, Jiang Xiaofeng tossed it to the fat owner.

"Open your dog eyes and look clearly!"

The fat man, himself a soul master — though a talentless one who'd gone into business — caught the token effortlessly. Though over forty, he was only at the Soul Grandmaster level.

But when he saw the token clearly, he dropped to his knees with a loud thud.

"This lowly one greets the Spirit Hall Elder! Why are you still standing there? Kneel! You want to die?!"

The head attendant went pale with fright, collapsing to her knees.

"Elder, I'm sorry! I was wrong! I'll apologize to Sister Ling right away and give her whatever she wants! Please forgive me! I..."

The surrounding soul masters instantly shrank back. So young... and he already holds an Elder's token from the Spirit Hall? Clearly a gift from an elder in his family — a titled Douluo, no doubt. No one dared say another word; the entire hall fell silent.

Jiang Xiaofeng said: "I don't want to see this woman again. You know what to do."

The fat boss nodded frantically.

"Understood! I'll take care of it immediately!"

The head attendant was like someone struck by lightning, kneeling in shock, completely motionless.

The fat boss shouted: "Guards! Throw her out and feed her to the soul beasts!"

Jiang Xiaofeng added: "And my Sister Ling's wages..."

The fat boss replied:"As long as the Elder asks, nothing is a problem. I'll take care of this ignorant woman first. I've disliked her for a long time. If she hadn't stirred things up, I wouldn't have offended you!"

"You're no saint either. Don't stay in my sight."

"Yes, yes! I'm leaving right now!"

With that, he dragged the stunned head attendant away, half carrying, half dragging.

Feng Lingling shook her head and said: "Xiaofeng, this really wasn't necessary."

Jiang Xiaofeng smiled and asked: "What, you feel sorry for her?"

Feng Lingling shook her head. "Not really. With the way she treated people, it was only a matter of time before she got what was coming. She's made too many enemies among the staff."

Jiang Xiaofeng said: "Exactly. Since she's made life miserable for you all, she deserves to pay the price. Let's go!"

Feng Lingling nodded, though deep down she sighed. Having status really is different. Only by being at the Holy Son's side could she see this kind of power firsthand. Maybe that's why so many people, in pursuit of cultivation and soul power, are willing to kill soul beasts at any cost — to gain status.

Back in the reception hall, everyone except Mobote was still in their rooms.

"The Holy Son is back. Oh, and Lingling too! Thought you weren't coming."

Feng Lingling replied: "To become a helper to the Holy Son and Holy Maiden is something many dream of. Why would I turn that down? My family's already made arrangements."

"Hmm, I've done some research on your spirit and discovered an issue. Not sure if you're aware of it."

Feng Lingling said: "I think I do. My spirit is called Destiny Book. I can choose my soul skills as I please, but my talent is weak. When my spirit awakened, my innate soul power was only level 3! According to my own research, with enough resources, I might reach Soul Emperor at best — but most likely I'll only make it to Soul King. So, in the later stages, I might not be able to help the Holy Son much."

At this, Feng Lingling felt a little guilty. The Holy Son had taken a liking to her, but she might not be able to contribute in the long run — it felt like she was letting him down.
