"Everybody in this room, knows the kind of college we are, how we function, our weakness, our strengths, our daily struggles, everyday one or two of you normal bring complaints about our WI FI connections, the other day I got a complaint about rats eating books in our library shelves (students laughs and murmur). And I wondered with all of this cats wandering our yards,,what do they really eat,(laughs sarcastically).And we as the management of the school we are really trying to improve our school,we have got plans on our palms on how to make this school a better place, for learning and gaining skills. That is why we have got to do this,,we need you in order to do this, it's your responsibility as students to pay your areas in order for us to meet up with our goals as a school, without enough resources this school can't grow to the best level we are picturing it in twenty years to come or less."
That was our college principal Madam Catherine, every word she said, clapped at my ear with an extensive disturbing wave which sounded to me as a blame, her words made me so uncomfortable in my chair I couldn't sit upright, my bottom were so itchy,"are you okay?" Peter quietly buzzed in my ear, I nodded my head in discomfort. I felt like everyone in that hall was laying their eyes on me, each direction I looked my eyes met with a set of other judgemental eyes looking at me with fury trying to tell me you are the reason why our school is still a third level college, I tried to cover my face in shame.
All of this guilt came from the massive wedge of my school fee debts, it was like since I joined that school I was learning at other students expenses,, reading books they had paid with their money,,, using WI Fi which they paid with their money, sitting on chairs they paid for, everything it's others that paid for, and that nailed my heart with a strong bang which I felt like my heart was exploding from the inside.
"Levi are you going for lunch," Peter asked tapping my shoulder from behind, this is after our meeting with the head principal, "no I think I am just gonna go to my house and see if I can get something for myself," I replied,,my voice cracking with a strong solemn of unexpected painful weep, I tried to look down so that Peter couldn't recognize the pool of tears drifting down my cheeks like a leaking can which couldn't hold themselves, but that was to no avail because my cracking voice had already told him I was actually hurting in pain.
"Okay,Levi update me on what is going on, because you have been acting all cranky since the meeting in the hall with the principal,,,, what is going on," Peter looked right at my eyes as he used those obvious concerning words which everyone used even when they never meant to help but just to get a story from you,to ask me why I was crying, and this is after dragging me all the way behind an old classroom behind the school's multipurpose hall which was used by music students for practices and made me sit on a cold watery chair.
I took a second to look at Peter who was still staring at me obnoxiously, I didn't know if I should tell him but I felt like he already knew, what was going on, "stop acting like you don't know what is making me behave like someone bitten with a tsetse fly," "of course I don't know that is why I dragged your annoying body out here," Peter couldn't even act nice for once, but it never meant that he never cared, he was my best friend and I couldn't see my mouth shut from telling him any stuff about myself, no matter how much I tried he always charmed me into spitting it out.
"It's about my school fee balance," I sput it out, you see I told you, "Peter, my fee balance is too high I am quite sure right now it's at 350k, I don't know what I am going to do,,,,, I feel like I shouldn't continue with school let me just quit because I can't cope up," "you know I was starting to feel pitty about your big head and big nose but I stopped at when you said about quitting,why should you quit?" "And why should I continue," " because this your life it's right here that you are making your future come on buddy can't you see all this pain is worth it, you can't give up right now, your pain never began the previous minute so why should it wore you down you are good than this, " Peter had turned to be my motivation I liked that part of him how he talked with passion and strength, the moment was so good that I had to extend it. "So my friend here you are saying that, I should not quit I should wait for them to chase me out like a wild cat," "and who is going to chase you away tell me," His confident wild intimidating voice rose from his broad chest and the ridges from his neck never disappointed from popping out, like the roots of a baobab tree.
"Peter, where am I going to get all of that money to pay this school...." "Before I could finish his arms touched my hands leaving me to feel the load of empathy which were confined in his red wild eyes,"my dear friend, Levi," he said with a soft voice rubbing the palm of my hand gently, "we are going to get past this together, I am not leaving you to worry about that all alone, okay " "thank you,Peter," I said with a heartfelt gratitude occurring in my voice so deeply. "And you know we can try that our thing," "what thing?!" I said drifting from the cutest atmosphere of a moment we two were having,"you know,,, looking after the old ladies," Peter said his mouth drawing a wicked smile, "No way!,,,, we are not going that road," I said drawing my hand from his, trying to lift my bag,"really guy you know how to destroy a good moment surely," "but I said nothing," Peter said laughing, looking at tall me as I stood ready to leave. "Levi Auma, the principal wants to see you now!!" THE BAD DAY CONTINUES.
