Chapter 45 - Her Deceitful Eyes

Without warning, he pushed Celine to the floor in an ungentlemanly manner ever and could not help his eyes which flickered towards his sister. She had made a silent jump of victory with her first pumped to the air before giving him thumbs up.

It had taken a lot to maintain a poker face, he looked at his mum who was now on her feet, her face shocked and ashen to Mr. and Mrs. Peters who sat back down and relaxed like it wasn't their daughter who got pushed like that.

"Reynaldo Davies!" His mother had yelled his name and he knew, yelling his full name meant she was mad at him.

Clearing his throat, he looked around before giving a nod to Celine who sat helplessly on the floor, pouting up at him with a pitiful face.

"I didn't mean to do that, I mean I was shocked and I don't like physical touch." He talked this long to give his mother a reason to give her visitors an excuse.

Mrs. Davies laughed awkwardly and the Peters joined in. "He is right, he doesn't like physical touch. He was startled." She explained unnecessarily and Rey had to stop himself from wincing at her.

"But You didn't have to push me that hard." Celine was still on her butt, she made her voice sound extra pitiful and Rey felt like walking past her.

"Come on Rey. Don't be ungentlemanly." His mother slowly pressurized her eyes, speaking more words than her mouth as she gestured to his hand then to the annoying damsel in distress on the floor.

He dropped the bags to the floor and reached out his hand unnaturally to her, smiling like her face would split into two, she took it and jumped to her feet only to give him a hug, pressing her body a little more firmly to his and he just stood still with his hands to his side.

He should have looked away but his eyes caught that of his mother and again, her eyes pressured him, her lips twisted in a funny way to show her displeasure. He was forced to reciprocate her gesture.

Tapping her on the back, he brought his head closer to her ear before whispering with an annoyed hiss, "you might regret it if you don't get your hands off me this instant."

Giggling, he watched with hidden disgust as she disengaged from him, giving him a hearty laughter before saying "I miss you too" ever so loudly and with pout that he wished he could get hold of her lips and pin it down to a place.

Just when he thought she was done and would get herself out of his sight, he heard her gasp with fake surprise and before he could stop her, she had bent and reached out for bags on the floor.

"Oh Rey!" She drawled with a sickly sweet voice that made his ear itch.

"Did you really get this for me?" She proceeded to open the bag, taking out the first products for all eyes to see.

"Oh my gosh!" She fawned and this time, Rey did not think she was being fake, he could literally see the dollar sign on both her eyes.

Rey lets his eyes move towards where his sister was positioned, she was standing now, with her arms folded beneath her breast, her face was getting pink with anger. He could imagine her breathing fire and destroying Celine whole without mercy.

Rey is a little helpless as he knew he could not get harsh on Celine before his mum and her parents. Trying his best to rein in his temper, he moved his hands to snatch the bag back from her but as if anticipating his move, she squealed in delight as she tried on the bag and moved out of his reach.

'The sly bitch,' was his thought as he watched her with impatience.

He was about to take another quick step towards her when his sister snatched the bag out of her hand from nowhere, halting him in his steps.

"Sabrina." Mrs. Davies who had been watching Celine silently and with fondness now called, her voice was hard, her eyes were equally hard.

Sabrina paid her mother no mind and proceeded to grab the other bag from Celine. Celine had tried to hold on tight but Sabrina had the upper hand.

"Don't be foolish Celine, don't be delusional, he got these things for me." She hissed at Celine, her breath coming in batches, like she had run for a long time to secure her life.

"What do you…"

"Are you that desperate?" Sabrina had asked, glaring into Celine's eyes, giving Rey the satisfaction he needed and this made Celine halt in her act.

Reynaldo knew Celine, she would have retorted back right there if their parents were not there, but instead, she blinked her lashes furiously, Rey thought she was about to grow them longer so she could fly.

But instead of flying like Rey had imagined in his mind's eye, she began to cry before turning towards him.

"Now that's enough Sabrina, you can't be so sure…" Mrs. Davies had started, her brows were thick with a frown.

"Mum." Reynaldo called, halting his mother in her words.

"It was for Sabrina." He said tiredly but as if to rethink his words, he rephrased it.

"They were all for Sabrina, heck I never knew she would be here."

"Rey…" His mother warned, shutting him up.

"But that's true mum, Rey didn't know she would be here. You didn't tell him…"

"I would appreciate it if you get back to your seat and don't butt into this." Mrs. Davies casted a side glance at Sabrina who immediately raised her full hand up in surrender but with a wide smile on her face before walking back to her seat.

"Do you hate me that much, Rey?" Celine sniffed hard and looked back at Rey with such large and pitiful eyes that Rey thought he had cringed so badly from disgust.

"Now, that's enough Celine. Get to your seat and don't make a fool of yourself." Mr. Peters' not so firm voice had attracted Rey's attention.

They were all the same, a bunch of pretenders, they pretended too bad, they gave him hives.

"Oh Dear, don't be so hard on her." His mum was quick to come to Celine's defence and he hated it.

"Rey, you'd have to take her out to get some things for herself." Rey stood awkwardly glued to the floor and again, all eyes were on him.

The laughing eyes of his sister, he was sure she was having a good laugh at the fun inside her head.

The adamant eyes of his mother who wanted him not to let her down in front of her guest.

The deceitful eyes of Celine that he could not stare at too long.

The daring and somewhat mocking eyes of Mr. and Mrs. Peters. Somewhere within him, he had thought of a refusal as he kept everyone waiting.
