It was a sunny afternoon when Saraph decided to share something sitting heavily on her chest.
We were lounging on the cozy couch in my living room, sipping on iced tea and chatting about their usual topics: school, weekend plans, and, of course, crushes.
But today wasn't just any day. Saraph had big news, and she couldn't keep it to herself any longer.
"Nuella," Saraph began, her voice wavering slightly. "I have to tell you something."
I raised an eyebrow, sensing the shift in tone.
"What's up? You look like you're about to explode."
Saraph took a deep breath, her cheeks flushed. "Okay, so you know how I've had a crush on Aaron forever?"
I nodded knowingly. "Uh, yeah.
Forever is an understatement. You've been talking about him since last year!"
"Well…" Saraph hesitated for dramatic effect, then blurted out, "He finally noticed me!"
My jaw dropped. "Wait, what? Aaron? The Aaron? The one you have been trying to get his attention all this time?
The one who barely talks to anyone unless it's about basketball or video games?"
Saraph nodded enthusiastically, her excitement bubbling over. "Yes! We've been talking a lot lately.
It started with small stuff like homework and random things, but now we're actually… close."
My face lit up with a mix of surprise and delight. "No way! This is huge! What happened? How did this even start?"
Wait, and you're now telling me, I thought we were friends,
"sorry," dear, but I'm sharing with you now, right? she said, smiling
Saraph grinned, settling into the story. "Okay, so last week in math class, I was struggling with that impossible problem Mr. Carter gave us. You know the one."
I groaned in agreement. "Ugh, don't remind me.
" You were struggling with the impossible problem Mr carter gave us, and you didn't tell me? I said, teasing her.
"Oh yeah, I was, but I didn't need your help. I prefer that of my crush, she said, pulling my legs, which made me laugh out so loud.
"Oh really", today you're trading me for your crush, right? We shall see.
Not that my dear friend, you know I can't trade you for anything, you are my all in all.
We both laughed. You are my everything, too, I said
"Anyway," Saraph continued, "I was staring at my notebook, completely lost, when Aaron leaned over and asked if I needed help.
At first, I thought he was joking or something because he's never really talked to me before. But he was serious! He walked me through the problem step by step."
"Wow," I said, wide-eyed. "That's… unexpected."
"I know!" Saraph exclaimed. "After that, we just started talking more. He even asked about my favorite music and recommended a band he loves.
And yesterday…" She paused for effect, her eyes sparkling. "He asked if I wanted to hang out after school sometime."
I nearly spilled her iced tea in excitement. "Are you kidding me? This is like a dream come true for you!"
"It is," Saraph admitted, her voice softening. "I mean, I've liked him for so long, but I never thought he'd notice me like this.
"It feels… surreal."
I reached over to give her a playful nudge. "Well, you deserve it! You're amazing, and if Aaron's finally realizing that, then good for him."
I smiled gratefully.
"Thanks, Nuella. I'm just nervous about what happens next. Like, what if this changes everything?"
I tilted her head thoughtfully. "Change isn't always a bad thing. It sounds like you two are getting along really well, so just take it one step at a time.
Be yourself, he likes talking to you for a reason."
Saraph nodded, taking comfort in my words. "You're right. I guess I just need to see where this goes."
As we continued chatting and giggling about the possibilities, Saraph couldn't help but feel a sense of relief.
Sharing her big news with me had made everything feel more real and less scary.
Whatever happened next with Aaron, she knew she had her best friend by her side to cheer her on every step of the way.
For now, though, she was content to bask in the excitement of this new chapter in her life, a chapter filled with hope, butterflies, and maybe even a little romance.
