Seeing the boy laugh at him in the corner of the room, a vein in Lucas popped.
"You…dare laugh at me–"
But since his frustrated tone was directed towards Ivan, the mark in his soul activated again.
With even more intensity, that is.
"Arggghh!!! My head…it's splitting apart!" The examiner clutched his head tightly and howled in pain.
His voice soon faded away as the pain in his head slowly moved down towards his soul.
Chaos looked on at the writhing Lucas from afar, a smile slowly forming at the edge of his lips as he enjoyed the cries of agony of a renowned sage.
Calvin, thinking that Lucas was trying to draw in attention, ignored his colleague's cries.
He was eager to finish this talk quickly.
With an annoyed look on his face, Calvin pointed his right hand at Lucas and said.
"You piece of shit, when are you going to hand over the boy's certificate to us? Quit wasting our time or I'll blow this place up with my Hyperion Cannon."
A magic circle decorated with draconic symbols then appeared in Calvin's right hand, its orange light flickering amongst the chaos.
One could even hear a faint dragon roar coming from within the magic circle.
Seeing the orange magic circle, Lucas quickly suppressed the pain within his chest with a mid level pain reduction spell. He then turned around and faced Calvin with a cheerful smile.
He had fought against Calvin in several magic based tournaments before so he knew how mighty Calvin's draconic magic was.
Even he was hesitant to fight against Calvin despite being a sage himself.
"Fuck, okay, okay…No need to get so aggressive with me here. I was your classmate from the academy, remember?"
"What does that have to do with me wanting to quicken this process up? Hand over the certificate or I'll blow this room into smithereens. And don't you dare use the boy against me…I can protect him while I blow you up just fine." Calvin added.
"Oh, so the boy takes priority over our friendship? Really? Wow, damn Calvin. I didn't think you were this type of ass–"
"BOOM!"
The wooden table separating Lucas from Calvin and Ivan suddenly exploded into splinters.
Ivan yelped in fear while covering his ears.
That explosion nearly scared him to death.
With the ocean churning within Ivan's mind, Chaos and Leviathan too begin cursing Calvin to death as they thought that was unnecessary.
'Fuck, is the other sage okay? He made the table blow up without caring that there was a child in the room.' [Chaos]
'Want me to fuck him up next?' [Leviathan]
'No, wait…This Calvin guy still has his uses for our host. We will keep him, but a punishment must be meted out.'[Chaos]
'Understood.' [Leviathan]
"That was just a warning shot, Lucas. Hand over the certificate or get blown to smithereens." Calvin calmly said.
"...Okay, fine."
Lucas gritted his teeth and conceded.
Ignoring the splitting pain within his soul, Lucas summoned a golden scroll from the air before he handed it to Calvin.
Calvin opened it up to make sure it was real before he revealed a bright smile.
He extended his right hand towards Lucas, intending to shake his hand.
But his colleague misunderstood and thought that Calvin wanted to blow him up, using a handshake as a disguise.
Scared, he coated his hand with earth magic before going in for the handshake.
But just as Lucas's hand gripped Calvin's hand, their vision became blurry as the surroundings began to rapidly change.
"What the? What's going on? Is this what you're doing, Lucas?"
"Me? Why do you always suspect it is my doing? I can't use illusion magic in the first place!"
"Then what's happening to us?"
"I don't know…Could this be? Oh shit, oh shit!"
Before his body could keep up with his line of thought yet, Lucas and Calvin had been summoned into Chaos' mental sea as soul avatars.
Seeing the familiar endless sea in front of him, Lucas couldn't help but break down in fear as he recalled the painful torture he was inflicted by the owner of this place.
Calvin remained indifferent. He was rather curious about the place.
Looking at Lucas' shivering body on the floor, he guessed that this place had something to do with his colleague's abnormalities yesterday too.
'Ding! Ding! Ding! You are correct!' Just then, a deep voice resounded through the two sages' minds like a tidal wave.
Calvin tried to look for the origin of the voice but failed.
Lucas didn't even try to look around as he remained in his fetal position, covering his ears in fear.
The trauma Chaos had dealt to him in the past still haunted him till this second.
With that said, an orb of light slowly rose out of the clear waters before it landed in front of the two sages.
The voice from before appeared once more, 'No need to be vigilant with me, boys. I'm a peace loving person, I promise.'
"Who are you? Or...what are you exactly?" Calvin looked at the orb of light for a moment before he opened his mouth and asked.
He had to assess the situation first before he could decide his next move.
'I am a soul. The name's Chaos.' [Chaos]
"A soul? As in the dead?" [Calvin]
'Yes, you can call me a ghost if you like. I accept that term as well. Chaos the ghost has a nice ring to it.' [Chaos]
"Why are we here?" [Calvin]
'I'll explain your summoning later. First, I want to punish your buddy over there.' [Chaos]
"Huh? You mean Lucas?" [Calvin]
'Yes, the puny existence next to you. I warned him that if he dared to show discourtesy to my host, I would send him to Jesus.'
"Who's Jesus?" [Calvin]
'A fictional character from the 2nd season of a very popular book during my time. A lord named Steven came up with the Jesus phrase so I'm using it for fun.' [Chaos]
"Okay?" Calvin looked at the glowing orb of light for a moment before he turned his head towards his colleague.
Without hesitation, he kicked Lucas to get up.
