Chapter 1 - Mother-in-law Laughed In Joy

"In the New Year's Eve dinner, all you need to do is to eat in silence. Just don't speak a word and don't embarrass me. You hear me?" After saying that in a cold voice Blanch Sykes headed into the Sykes Villa.

Zachary Austin had always known how Blanch had been looking down upon him, but he could do nothing about that because he had been staying at Blanch's place and living on her family since they got married.

Although the Sykeses was no longer a giant, Blanch Sykes, being a true- born daughter of the Sykeses was still having an air of pride accompanied by aloofness.

In the eyes of the majority, Zachary didn't deserve Blanch at all. They could in no way be a good match.

But in fact, it shouldn't have been like this.

Zachary was the eldest son of the Austins, the richest family in Cloudmount City. The Sykeses could in no way compare to the Austins even before its decline.

It was a pity that Zachary had been dull and unsociable since he was a child. He had always been living in isolation, immersed in his world. How he looked was not in line with the image of a young and promising son of a rich and powerful family. What's more, he often made a fool of himself and thus put shame on his family in front of the public and the media.

Therefore, Grandmother Austin's dislike of him grew with time. She increasingly distanced herself from him and began to ignore him.

His sister-in -law, Zoey Austin, having found his weakness, managed to steal his inheritance rights from him by deceiving him into lying in her bed.

Zachary was not good at rhetoric. In the face of such a well-planned conspiracy, he was unable to speak for himself.

A scandal like this was a huge disgrace to a family like the Austins.

Without saying a word Grandmother Austin drove Zachary out of the family and declared that she would never allow him to step into their house, and that nor could he tell anyone he had been an Austin.

Zachary was such a stay-at-home that he had immediately fallen into loneliness and helplessness when thrown into the outside world. Thankfully he was taken in by Maxwell Sykes, Blanch's father.

Maxwell's personality was somewhat similar to Zachary's. He was supposed to be a pillar of the Sykes, but in fact, he was merely a nerd. He witnessed the decline of his family in despair, but he could do nothing about it.

However, he could see the talent in Zachary, who was a low-EQ genius with unique gifts.

He treated Zachary as a treasure. In spite of the protest from the whole family, he married the homeless Zachary into the Sykeses.

It could be said that if Maxwell hadn't lent a helping hand, Zachary would have lived a stray dog's life.

Zachary was grateful to Maxwell. He also felt that he owed the Sykes a lot, especially his wife Blanch. She was so gorgeous, with a noble and elegant temperament of a princess. She was the object of many rich and powerful people's pursuit, but she had been wronged and married him.

When he thought of this, he would endure it in silence whenever Blanch gave him the cold shoulder.

Lowering his head, he entered the Sykes Villa.

No one paid attention to him. Even the servants did not care about him and treated him like nobody.

When he was about to walk into the chamber, he saw his mother-in-law, Miranda Sykes, coming up to him with a smile on her face.

He couldn't believe his eyes

Was Miranda welcoming him, smilingly?

Zachary was shocked. He felt even quite flattered.

Miranda was the one that hated him most among the Sykeses.

Miranda had always expected that Blanch would marry into a wealthy family and that the Sykeses would thus be revived. In that way, she could resume her rich and prosperous life.

It was all for Zachary that her beautiful dream was broken. She loathed Zachary. Why would she come up to him with a big smile on her face?

"Miranda, I..." being deeply moved Zachary just couldn't utter a word. Suddenly, Miranda directly pushed him away and said, "Get out of my way!"

Then she quickly walked past him and spoke excitedly to someone else, "You are finally here, Flynt!"

It turned out that the person she welcomed with a smile was not Zachary, but a young man behind him.

The handsome young man looked well-bread and educated. His was Flynt Lewis. The Lewises and the Sykeses used to live close to each other.

"Miranda, I hope my visit is not causing you any inconvenience. My mother told me that if I couldn't find a place to have the New Year's Eve dinner, I could come to your house where I would be welcomed." Flynt said in a very polite manner.

"Surely you are welcomed here anytime! Your mother was right. You've been abroad for so many years, and I miss you so much." Miranda rarely laughed so happily and spoke so nicely.

By contrast, all that Zachary could get from her was scorn and mockery.

"Get out of my way! Are you blind or something?" Miranda thrust Zachary aside once more, took Flynt's arm, and walked towards the chamber.

"Who is this?" Flynt glanced at Zachary and said on purpose, "Miranda, you're being too harsh on the servants, aren't you? Today's New Year's Eve. Why don't you buy him something decent to wear?"

"Well, he's not a servant," Miranda said disdainfully.

"Then who he is?"

Miranda rolled her eyes and did not answer.

To Miranda Flynt was the perfect son-in-law.

He used to be their neighbor before his whole family moved abroad. It was said that his career abroad was quite booming.

This was how her ideal son-in-law looked like.

But if Flynt might be driven away if he found out that Blanch had been married.

She hurriedly smiled and said, "He's just a nobody that no one cares. Just ignore him as if he was not there."

She glared at Zachary and said to him, "You'll have dinner with the servants later. Do you hear me?"

After saying that she walked into the chamber, still taking Flynt's arm.

She behaved like Flynt was her son-in-law, and Zachary nothing more than a servant.

"Zac, what are you doing out there? Just come on in please!" It was Maxwell shouting at him in exhilaration. After stepping out of his study, he greeted Zachary the moment he caught sight of him.

"Maxwell, what's the problem with you? Didn't you see that Flynt is here?" Miranda said, winking to her husband.

"Oh, it's Flynt. Come in and find a seat!"

After saying that, Maxwell quickly came to Zachary, his face full of excitement. "Zac, come here to me. I got a piece of porcelain in an antique market Yesterday. It looked like a rare green ice-jade porcelain made in the North Song Dynasty. Come take a look at it for me."

Ignoring the guest, he went back to the study with Zachary.

"You such a good-for-nothing." Miranda grumbled at him in a low voice.

She was quite disappointed in Maxwell.

The Sykeses, once a commercial giant, had declined because of Maxwell's impotence in business competitions. All he could do was to stay at home studying antiques, calligraphy, and paintings

What's more, he even married her most important bargaining chip, her beautiful daughter Blanch, to Zachary.

At the thought of it, she gritted her teeth in hatred.

"Miranda, is he Blanch's husband?" Flynt asked with a laugh.

"You... you've known that?" Miranda was taken aback.

Flynt nodded his head and replied in a sigh, "I have planned to come back and marry Blanch after getting rich and famous abroad. I didn't expect that I would be too late."

As he was saying this, he raised his hand and held his forehead, feigning a sad face.

"There are still chances for you, Flynt! There can be a divorce. Blanch can divorce that piece of garbage at any time." Miranda hurriedly explained to him, for fear of losing such a good son-in-law.

"Really?" Flynt suddenly looked up.

He seemed to be crying just now, but now there was no trace of tear on his face.

There's only excitement.

"Of course, that good-for-nothing doesn't deserve our Blanch. Not at all. You two will be a perfect match. Just count on me. I will promise you Blanch. You two will get married no matter what happens."

"Thank you, Miranda!" Flynt grabbed Miranda's hand in great joy.

In the country where he lived, he had had a girlfriend for years. Her father was the CEO of a transnational corporation. However, when he heard about Blanch's marriage, he was really unhappy. He didn't want to give up on his Blanch.

He had considered Blanch as his beautiful personal property since he was a child. How could he willingly give her to someone else for free?

"I should sleep with her, and then go back and marry my girlfriend." He thought.

This was the main purpose of his visit to China this time.

"Flynt, it's so nice to meet you again! You've become so magnificent that I didn't think it was you at first sight." Albert Sykes, Blanch's brother, came forward and spoke.

Then he gave Flynt an excited hug.

"It's you, Flynt. I've heard that you've made a fortune overseas. Look at that watch on your wrist. It is a Patek Philippe and worth a few million, isn't it? People say that Patek Philippe is the mark of billionaires. So you must be super wealthy now!" the other brother of Blanch, Peter Sykes, was also very excited to meet Flynt.

They had to admit that their family was in decline, but Flynt's had always been on the rise.

Just look how different their clothes are. Albert and Peter were indeed in designer clothes, but the suit Flynt was wearing was customized, which was very exquisite.

"Albert, Peter, you may not know that Flynt still could get Blanch out of his mind." Miranda said smugly.

"Is that so? That's great! Finally, someone is saving Blanch from the hell. Blanch will live in doom for the rest of her life married to that piece of garbage." Albert was getting more and more agitated.

"Blanch will not be the only one save from hell. So will we, won't we?" Obviously, Peter was meaning something else.

The New Year's Eve dinner was soon served in the dining room.

Blanch went to the kitchen to see to it that the New Year's Eve dinner was well-cooked. When she came out, she was startled to see Flynt.

They hadn't seen each other for so many years that they nearly fail to recognize each other.

"Flynt, you've changed a lot," Blanch said.

Flynt didn't respond. He was completely dumbfounded by Blanch's.

"As an old saying goes, a girl can change a lot when she grows up. Now I'm sure it's true."

Blanch had already been very attractive when she was just a child. Now, she had become dazzling.

She now looked magnificent and noble, like a princess. There was also an air of aloofness and elegance in her.

Flynt felt excited as if his blood had boiled in an instant.

In the first place, he thought that sleeping with Blanch would be enough, but now he felt that he wanted far more than that.

"Flynt, you can't stare at a girl in that way. Our Blanch is getting embarrassed," Miranda said with a smile.

She could tell that Flynt had already gone overboard for Blanch.

It was no exaggeration that her daughter was the most beautiful woman in Cloudmount City.

She quickly pulled Flynt and Blanch to their seats and said, "You two may sit together and have a good chat. Just catch up and speak out whatever you have to say over the past few years."

She had completely forgotten about her useless son-in-law Zachary.

Flynt finally got a chance to talk to Blanch so he strived to find a topic. At that moment, a burst of hearty laughter was heard, accompanied by a man's voice,

"Hah-hah, my boy, you such a genius. How could you possibly tell that? This kind of green ice-jade porcelain is a rare treasure even back in the North Song Dynasty, and nowadays people can't find even a single piece of green ice-jade porcelain that

remains complete. It really amazed me that you've studied porcelain-making so much. If you can restore that piece of artwork and show it to the public, no doubt that will shock the whole world.

."

The voice came from the study. It was Maxwell's voice.

"Good job! Seems that I've chosen the right person to be my son-in-law. You're truly a treasure to me."

Everyone could tell the exhilaration in his voice.

Flynt heard the words, and his face immediately turned dark.

"Zachary, a good-for-nothing, a gigolo who can't compare to me in all way. Why did Maxwell appreciate him so much? Damn it!" He thought indignantly.

In the study, Zachary was about to thank Maxwell for his compliment when a few text messages popped up from his phone:

"Congratulations on your lately passed patent on the new-type chipset architecture applicable for large-scale technology companies Your patent number is ...—...—...—...— ...—...—."

"Congratulations on your lately passed patent on floor extension casting technology applicable for real estate development. Your patent number is ...—...—...—...— ...—...—."

"Congratulations on your lately passed patent on Electric vehicle battery management technology applicable for the production of environment-friendly electric vehicles. Your patent number is..."

...

A few days ago, Zachary patented all his inventions during the past years. He had already obtained the certificate of one of the patents, and the rest had been approved.

"This was the best New Year's gift." He thought.
