~Bella's POV
I closed the door of my apartment gently, letting it shut behind me with a soft click. The silence inside wrapped around me like a familiar blanket calm, still, and slightly suffocating.
My heels came off first, kicked somewhere into the corner as I made my way to the bathroom, barely noticing the faint echo of my steps across the tiled floor. My bag slipped from my shoulder, landing softly on the couch. The lights above buzzed faintly, the hum of the fridge in the kitchen the only other sound accompanying my racing thoughts.
I stood in front of the mirror.
Still. Silent.
And then slowly, I lifted the edge of my shirt and stared at the tiny swell of my tummy.
It wasn't obvious. Not yet. To anyone else, I still looked the same. But I felt it. I knew it. And now, with the nausea, the cravings, the constant fatigue, and the test stick tucked away in the bathroom drawer... it was real.
I was pregnant.
And the father was Alex.
