~Bella's POV
The music swayed around us, soft yet intoxicating, as Alex held me close, his strong hands resting lightly on my waist. We moved in sync, his touch warm and firm, making my heart flutter. He leaned in slightly, his breath teasing my ear.
"Enjoying yourself?" he murmured.
I smiled, looking up at him. "Of course."
Alex smirked, his deep blue eyes twinkling under the ballroom lights. Just as I was about to tease him back, I noticed a man approaching us from the corner of my eye. Alex must have seen him too because he slowed our dance and leaned in.
"I need to take care of something," he said, brushing a stray hair from my face. "I'll be back soon."
I nodded, watching as he strode off to meet the other man. His presence still lingered around me, making me feel safe even though he wasn't right beside me.
But my moment of peace was short-lived.
