Chapter 69 - Fake Boyfriend

(Fiona's POV)

"What? You have a boyfriend?"

The voice dripped with sarcasm.

I looked up—and there she was.

Erika Hemut.

Captain of the White Wing Squad. Arms folded, lips curled in that smug little smirk she always wore like a badge of honor.

She shot a glance toward Yuuta's image still lingering in the holo-display and snorted.

"He looks more like a lunatic monkey than a boyfriend."

I ground my teeth together.

Erika had always been impossible—but today, she was aiming to break a record.

(Yuuta's POV)

"Achoo!"

I blinked, rubbing my nose and glancing around my apartment.

"Ugh… someone's definitely talking behind my back again."

I shuffled toward the window, squinting at the sky.

"Feels like bad luck is chasing me today too…"

I had no idea how right I was.

(Fiona's POV)

Loid inched a little closer to me, his voice just above a whisper.

"Captain… what exactly are you doing?"

I didn't look at him, keeping my eyes forward as I whispered back.

"Keeping us all alive."

"From what? Romance?"

"From Erika. And the Chief. And what happens if they find out about Yuuta's family—or what really happened at the port. You want to explain how we helped him escape?"

Loid's face paled.

"…No thanks. You're right. This is better. Chief's interrogation style is... creatively brutal."

"Exactly."

Before he could respond, the Chief's voice sliced through the room.

"Well then."

She stepped forward, hands behind her back, eyes as cold as steel.

Her gaze flicked between Yuuta's photo and me.

"That explains… a few things."

I didn't breathe.

But then—she turned toward the holo-screen behind her.

A hovering projection showed the skies above the Luna Port—

—and there it was.

An Arch Demon.

Massive. Winged. Its silhouette pulsing with dark mana, glowing red eyes scanning the horizon like a predator.

"But it doesn't explain this."

One of the White Wing officers stepped forward.

"High-rank demon. We've tracked it near multiple incidents—always seen with a hooded figure nearby. Suspected leader class."

The Chief pinched the bridge of her nose.

"Fantastic."

She muttered, more to herself than us.

"What's next? These Otherworld creatures act like Earth's a damn vacation home ever since they figured out humans can't use mana, I swear if this continues like this someday Dragon will popup too."

Loid leaned toward me and whispered, "Too late."

Jenny smirked, chiming in softly, "Already Arrived on earth."

I elbowed them both. "Shut up."

"What was that?" the Chief snapped.

"Nothing, ma'am," I said quickly.

She gave me one last suspicious look before turning away.

"…Fine. You're all dismissed."

We stepped out of the room in tense silence.

The hallway was too clean, too quiet—like it was holding its breath. The air still felt heavy with what just happened.

Then came the sound I didn't want to hear:

Heels clicking against the tile with deliberate rhythm.

Erika.

She stepped into our path, arms folded, her smirk still very much alive.

"Fiona."

I exhaled slowly. "We're not supposed to use real names on duty."

"Relax," she said, stepping in close. "I'm off duty. This is personal."

Her eyes narrowed.

"So... you're seriously telling me he's your boyfriend?"

"I said what I said."

My tone was even, but my stomach was tightening.

"Whether you believe it or not, isn't my problem."

"Hmm."

She stepped even closer, invading my space.

"Then prove it."

I raised an eyebrow. "Excuse me?"

"You heard me. Ask him out. Hold his hand. Be a couple. Convince me—and everyone else—that you're not faking this just to cover something up."

Then she leaned in, eyes gleaming with something darker now.

"Because you know about my feeling eyes right if he flinches, even a little—if he doesn't act like someone who's really into you—then I'll take it from there.

I'll interrogate him myself."

I stiffened.

This wasn't a bluff. She was dead serious.

And the worst part?

Even if I could pull that off…

There was still Erza.

Erza.

Yuuta Wife, she is walking disaster I can't mess with her after finding out she is dragon.

If she found out I was pretending to date him—

Or worse, if she thought it was real—

We'd all be dead before dinner.

I swallowed.

Location:- Luna City Yuuta Apartment

Yuuta (POV)

After a cozy breakfast of crispy dosa and extra coconut chutney, I was living my best lazy life—lying flat on the living room floor, remote in hand, flipping through TV channels with zero intent to actually watch anything.

Why the floor, you ask? Well… because my sofa had been claimed by a certain someone.

Erza.

Curled up like a queen on her throne, legs tucked under her, a thick novel resting on her lap. Her eyes were laser-focused, flipping pages like each one held the coordinates to defeating some ancient dragon. Honestly, I had no idea she even read romance novels. Maybe she was secretly decoding enemy formations from the love triangles.

The house was unusually quiet today. Grandpa had taken Elena out for a walk, leaving behind an eerie but welcome silence.

For once, life felt… normal. Peaceful.

Which, of course, was a red flag.

Because peace never lasts long in this household.

Ding dong.

There it was. The bell of doom.

I groaned and dragged myself toward the door, already mentally bracing for whatever chaotic twist was waiting on the other side. Another neighborhood complaint? A mysterious monster egg? Maybe Erika here to arrest me?

I opened the door—

—and my brain immediately blue-screened.

Fiona.

Standing in the hallway, casual but stunning in a shiny blue blouse tied with a red ribbon, a messenger bag slung over her shoulder. Her long hair fluttered slightly in the breeze, and that smile she wore—soft, slightly teasing—could've belonged to a protagonist from a shoujo anime.

My brain took a second too long to reboot.

"Uh—F-Fiona? Hey—"

SMACK!

"OW! What the hell?!" I clutched the back of my head and turned.

Erza stood behind me, eyes narrow, her palm still raised like she hadn't even hesitated.

"You damned mortal," she muttered, low and deadly. "Must your brain short-circuit over every girl with shiny hair and a ribbon?"

I stared at her, still rubbing the bump forming on my skull.

"It's called having eyes, Erza."

She stepped forward with the presence of a final boss entering her cutscene.

Her eyes locked on Fiona.

"What do you want, puny human?" she said coldly. "Why have you come to my den?"

Fiona raised one perfectly unimpressed brow.

"Still acting like a fire-breathing tsundere, I see."

She tilted her head and added with a smile, "Don't forget—I saved your pretty scaled hide."

Erza blinked, then shrugged.

"So? I didn't ask for help. And for the record, Yuuta saved me not you. You just got lucky."

Oh no. Not this again.

The air between them tightened like a pulled bowstring. Two women, two egos, one poor mortal caught in the crossfire.

I waved my arms between them like a panicked referee.

"Okay! Timeout! Can we not turn the living room into the next magical warzone?"

Fiona brushed right past me—completely ignoring Erza—and dropped herself onto the sofa like it was her birthright.

"Nice to see you again too, Yuuta," she said, giving me a sly grin.

Erza's eye twitched.

"Tch. This human brat... acting like she owns the place."

"What was that?" Fiona said sweetly from the couch, not even turning to look.

"Nothing." Erza's smile was as fake as the plotlines of the dramas she secretly binge-watched.

I took a deep breath, flopped down onto the floor again, and stared up at the ceiling.

Yep. Just another normal day in the Yuuta household.

Fiona had, of course, claimed the best seat in the house—my favorite spot on the sofa, the one with the perfect angle for both TV and cooler. Meanwhile, Erza sat across from her in the old double-seater, arms crossed like she was preparing to put Fiona on trial.

I, the poor mortal in the middle, did the only thing I could: place three mugs of freshly brewed coffee on the table and pray that caffeine would somehow defuse this ticking time bomb.

Fiona took a slow sip, eyes flicking from Erza to me.

Then she looked straight at me, her expression completely serious.

"Yuuta, your life is in danger."

I blinked. "Uh… what?"

She leaned forward, lowering her voice like we were in some spy drama.

"Your face was caught on camera during the port incident. You've been flagged. The higher-ups think you might be a suspect."

I nearly choked on my coffee. "Wait, what?! Me?! A suspect?!"

Before Fiona could respond, BAM!

Erza slammed her palm onto the table, sending spoons clinking and coffee rippling like we were on a damn battleship.

"Enough with the cryptic riddles, you irritating woman. Speak clearly—or be silent forever."

Fiona didn't even flinch. Cool as always.

She explained it all—how during her classified debriefing, my face came up in the footage, how her squad started sniffing around, and how she'd barely managed to twist the story in my favor. Then she dropped the name that instantly changed the mood.

"The demon behind the port chaos… he's the real threat."

Erza's eyes narrowed like slits.

"A cloaked one…? That explains why I couldn't sense him."

Fiona nodded. "Yeah, he's been using magic to mask his presence. But right now, we've got a bigger issue. To protect you, Yuuta… I had lie."

Erza's gaze sharpened instantly. "Lie? What kind of lie?"

Fiona hesitated, rubbing her hands, suddenly unsure of herself.

That was rare—seeing her nervous.

I gave her a reassuring nod. "It's okay, Fiona. Whatever it is, just say it."

She looked down and mumbled,

"I told them… you're my boyfriend."

".... EHHHH?!"

My voice hit frequencies only dogs could hear.

Erza froze. I could feel the air pressure drop.

Slowly, her head turned toward Fiona, the heat rising in her aura like a dragon waking up from a long nap—hungry and offended.

"You puny human…" she hissed. "Still clinging to my mortal? Do you have a death wish?"

"WAIT! Time out!" I cried, jumping between them like a man trying to stop a meteor from hitting a volcano. "Let's not go full bloodbath just yet, okay?!"

Fiona, still avoiding eye contact, added softly,

"It was the only way to throw them off. The white Captain didn't believe me, but it was enough to stall them. Please… I did it to protect him."

There was silence.

The kind where even the coffee went quiet.

Then, Erza let out a low breath through her nose.

"…Fine. I understand."

I blinked. That was… easier than expected.

Then Fiona spoke again.

"So… to really sell it, I need to go on a date with Yuuta."

"whattttt?!" I nearly fell backwards again.

Erza blinked. "What is… 'date'?"

My brain short-circuited for a moment.

"You don't know what a date is?"

She tilted her head. "Is it some sort of… food?"

"No, it's… it's when two people… romantically… ugh—"

I tried explaining it like I was walking a dragon through human social behavior.

"Basically, it's when people who like each other spend time together doing cute stuff like walking, talking, eating, maybe watching a movie—"

Her expression shifted from curiosity to murder.

"So you're saying," she said slowly, eyes glowing faintly aura Voliet, "you want to spend the entire day alone with another woman… being romantic?"

Suddenly her hand snapped out and clamped around my neck.

"YOU DARE BETRAY ME, MORTAL?!"

"WHEN did I even agree?!" I gasped, flailing as she shook me like a broken soda can. "I'm literally being choked for crimes I didn't commit!!"

Fiona set her coffee cup down gently, but the weight behind her next words made the room feel like it dropped a few degrees.

Her voice was calm, but there was a tension in her shoulders as she looked straight at Erza.

"This isn't just about me faking a relationship. It's about what happens if we fail to prove that he is not my boyfriend."

Erza's gaze sharpened. "Go on."

Fiona didn't flinch. "Chief Sara is the one overseeing the investigation, she has nick name Torture demon."

Erza's expression didn't change, but I saw the way her fingers twitched slightly. Like she saw past by the word torture.

Fiona continued, quieter now.

"She doesn't believe in 'talking things out.' She believes in results. She's well-known for what she calls 'pressure tactics.'"

I swallowed hard. "You mean… torture."

Fiona nodded.

"If I can't convince her that Yuuta is truly uninvolved—and truly my boyfriend—he won't be questioned. He'll be broken. Because she doesn't see people. She sees puzzles to tear open until they give her the answer she wants."

The silence after that was long. Heavy.

I looked at Erza, expecting fury or coldness. But she wasn't angry.

She was still.

Her eyes weren't cold—they were haunted.

"No," she whispered. "Not again."

I blinked. "What… what do you mean, again?"

She glanced at me, then away. "It doesn't matter."

Her voice was softer now. Not sharp, not biting—just tired.

She took a breath.

"Fine."

She turned back to Fiona, straightening her posture. "I'll allow this. You can pretend. For now."

I stared. "Wait—what?! You're agreeing to this?! Just like that?!"

Erza looked at me, and for a second, she didn't seem like a dragon or a warrior.

She looked like someone who had lost something before.

"Because I won't let you go through that kind of pain. Not again. Not ever."

I was stunned. My words caught in my throat.

Fiona looked away, her face shadowed with guilt.

"Thank you," she said, softly. "I mean it."

But then Erza stepped forward, her presence hardening again.

"—But."

Her tone cut through the quiet like a blade.

"Before anything happens… you'll fulfill one condition. My condition."

Fiona blinked. "Alright. What is it?"

Erza looked at me.

"Yuuta. Leave the room. I need to speak with her privately."

"…Huh?" I glanced between the two, nervous. "Why do I feel like this might end in bloodshed?"

She didn't smile. She didn't tease.

"Please." Her voice was steady. "Just for a moment."

There was no arguing with her when she was like this.

I stood, hesitated, then walked toward the door.

As I reached for the handle, I heard Fiona mumble under her breath—

"If this ends with fire and teeth, I'm calling in that life debt…"

The door closed behind me.

And I could only wonder what the hell I'd walk back into.

To be continued…
