Chapter 40 - The Solution

"Whoever you are, you should learn to knock," said Danso, exerting his soul energy as a warning to leave the room.

Ozamu, startled by Danso's sudden hostility, looked over at Emily, who was covering. Of course, since Ozamu had enough soul energy not to get intimidated by Danso's soul energy, Ozamu walked closer and saw the eyes of Emily which were all red and full of tears. Danso quickly wiped them and told Emily to stay and rest before he and Ozamu exited the room together. Once outside the room, they both sat on a couch near the reception, and the silence between the two was awkward. Until Ozamu broke it.

"I've heard about you," said Ozamu.

"I don't even know who you are," replied Danso.

"I think we got off on the wrong foot here, I am a comrade of Chiro Zanami," said Ozamu.

"Oh really? When…" asked Danso.

"When we were in the military, believe me or not, Takahashimi was our junior and we both were friends working in the same group, after the incident, Chiro left the military, I pursued politics, and Takahashimi went to reach higher than all of us ever could," said Ozamu.

"Why did you interrupt my sentence?" asked Danso.

"What do you mean?" replied Ozamu.

"When I meant, when I was going to say, When did I ask?" said Danso.

Ozamu chuckled. "You have the same sense of humor as Takahashimi, yet Chiro described you as a hardworking, nice person. Why are you rude to me?" questioned Ozamu.

"It's called the aftermath of making me angry," said Danso.

"Fine, I apologize," replied Ozamu.

"See, was it that hard?" asked Danso, who was now back to his usual joyful self.

Ozamu smiled. "No, it wasn't."

Ozamu pointed at the table in front of the couch and tapped it twice. A hologram of some suits appeared on the screen, and Danso looked at them in awe. There were six suits, one was and red, one was Blue and Red, one was Purple and Yellow, one was Green and Pink, and the last one was White and Black. The primary colors were popping, and the secondary colors were perfect, and they complemented the primary colors perfectly. Ozamu glanced over at Danso and smiled.

"Do you like them?" asked Ozamu.

"Yes, they are very impressive," replied Danso.

"These will be your new suits for the DMMS. Would it be bad if a high military agency did not have a uniform, correct?" asked Ozamu.

"Of course, it shows discipline," said Danso.

Danso flinched at the word discipline. He was reminded of the time he had to do harsh training at the Narahara complex, and when he had no parents to care for him and all he had was a darn bruised white uniform he had to wear for training. He still has it because, for some reason, he could not throw it away. Even though it was the thing he hated the most, he could not throw it away. Maybe he had some sentiment for it.

"It's not meant for discipline," said Ozamu.

Danso stopped for a minute and looked Ozamu in the eyes.

"It's meant to be more comfortable to fight in than normal clothes and helps you heal better, block hits, and punch with more force, and it has alkanium, which can block soul energy from others," explained Ozamu.

"Alright, I am convinced. What's the catch in this?" asked Danso.

"There is no catch. I am the mayor of Jale, and I thought that it would be beneficial to help you guys," said Ozamu.

Danso thanked Ozamu and gave him a handshake before walking towards Emily's door. He paused and thought that she needed some alone time and that Natsuki would do a better job than he, so he left and went towards the hospital rooms. The emergency room is where Tensei was, and the normal room is where Haruki was. Danso knew Tensei was a grown man and that he could deal with it, so he went towards Haruki's room. Outside the room, Danso saw a nurse repeatedly knocking on the door, asking Haruki if he wanted anything. Danso politely asked the nurse if he could and started to knock on the door himself.

"Haruki? Buddy? It's me, Danso," said Danso, trying to sound friendly and inviting.

Danso heard very fast and loud footsteps, and a shadow companion opened the door. It was the shadow companion, Skull Soldier.

"Our master is very traumatised from the events of Jale. It would be best if you do not come inside. he is pleased to see you are doing fine," said the Skull Soldier.

"Oh, you can speak?" asked Danso.

"Yes," replied the Skull Soldier.

"Don't worry, I just want to speak to him for a minute. Please stay outside and lock the door, guard it too. I do not want anyone entering," said Danso.

The Skull Soldier nodded and followed Danso's orders. Meanwhile, Danso walked slowly towards the curled-up Haruki, who was underneath a blanket. He kept whispering something to himself. Danso put his hand on Haruki's shoulder and started to speak.

"Do you want to speak?" asked Danso.

The head in the blanket started to move and signalled the sign of "no". Danso noticed it and nodded before replying to Haruki.

"Whenever you want to speak, you can because I will be here for the entire day, alright?" said Danso.

There was no response, and Danso made himself comfortable on a beanbag chair.

"I want to say something, Haruki. If you think that the Jale incident was your fault, it wasn't. It was no one's," said Danso.

Haruki twitched underneath the blanket, which worried Danso. He rushed towards Haruki and removed the blanket. The words he was whispering were 'So much blood, so much death'.

"The gore traumatised him, didn't it? He is still a kid," thought Danso sympathetically.

"Haruki," said Danso as he grabbed Haruki's shoulders.

"I get it. It's not okay. No child should bear those things at the age of 14. But you're different, you have a spark in you that no one can stop from growing. Things will get more difficult from now on, and if you ever need, I'll be there," said Danso.

Haruki who was now sitting, looked at Danso with teary eyes and hugged him tightly while crying. He said no words, but the tears managed to convey all the emotions, and Danso just held him. After Haruki cried out all the tears in his body, he fell asleep, and Danso put him to bed and exited the room. Outside the room, Emily was waiting for him.

"Is he better now?" asked Emily.

"I hope so, I think he will be fine when he wakes up," said Danso.

"Thank you," said Emily.

"Why?" asked Danso.

"You are an idiot," said Emily.

Danso's jaw dropped. First, she was thanking him now she was calling him an idiot. What was going on?

"Anyway, I have to leave, I have work," said Emily.

Danso grabbed Emily's shoulder and stopped her.

"Go rest, work can come later," said Danso.

Emily nodded before walking back to her room. Danso stayed in that corridor, scratching his head.

"What was that about?" thought Danso.

Now he had one last thing he wanted to do. He knew that there were more Soul Slime nests around, and those would be a great advantage for him as he would have his miniature army. After all, he was only one person. He summoned Karkous and asked him about the whereabouts of the other Soul Slime nests. Karkous told Danso that there were five nests, but two of them were close by, so he could go and clear them.

"Vegiatous! Collecting all the Soul Slime is a hard task!" thought Danso.

Danso smiled and went outside the hotel to gaze at the starry night sky.

"I hope you're finally getting rest, Vegiatous," said Danso.

As Danso started to move back into the hospital, he saw Takahashimi outside. He was talking to some guards about something, but it seemed important. Danso could not allow things to get even worse. So he walked towards Takahashimi to enquire about what was going on.
