The one beneath her... no, the guy beneath her turned out to be a human; not only did he have body heat, he also had a pulse.
"You're a human..." Yakor's eyes widened, but she had only said half the sentence when her mouth was covered.
There were two hands covering her mouth, one was Aiden's, and the other was her own.
"Keep your voice down." Aiden realized something was wrong the moment Yakor's hand pressed against his carotid artery, so just as she was halfway through her sentence, he reached out to cover her mouth.
But what surprised him a little was that Yakor seemed like she didn't dare to say the next word either, she even took the initiative to cover her own mouth.
"Then, I'll let go?" After a while, Aiden cautiously asked.
Yakor nodded, but her eyes were full of confusion and shock.
Aiden slowly removed his hand from Yakor's mouth, then said, "Can you get up?"
Yakor nodded again, but she didn't get up, instead, she leaned down toward Aiden, her eyes glowing faintly blue.
Then she said in astonishment, "How is this possible? Why does the scan still show you as an android?"
'That's because of the mechanical heart...' Of course, Aiden wouldn't say that out loud. He calmly explained, "A special kind of disguise method... forget it, just think of it as me using some kind of jammer!"
"Hmph, the humans from the past didn't leave behind such devices." Yakor clearly didn't believe him. She knew too much information, and she even had an encyclopedia that recorded almost all the data of this world. If such a device that could disguise a human as an android really existed, it would be impossible for her not to know about it.
"You really are a cunning... android." Yakor had originally wanted to say "human," but for some reason, she couldn't say words that could explicitly indicate someone was human, just like earlier, after discovering Aiden was a human, she didn't dare say the second half of the sentence. If she said it, it would clearly declare Aiden's identity as a human.
Although it was indeed the truth, she was afraid some kind of special existence might hear it, and that special existence was essentially one of the culprits behind the extinction of humans in this world.
Of course, this restriction only applied to her.
Aiden, although puzzled about why Yakor didn't dare directly say he was human, didn't bother to ask since she didn't want to say it, and replied, "If I weren't cunning, how could I survive in this world? You should know, with my identity, if it got exposed, the consequences would be unimaginable."
"Indeed." Yakor nodded. She knew that humans in this world had gone extinct. She had even been to the moon, entered the final human fortress, but there was nothing there, only dead silence.
After thinking for a bit, she added, "You still can't reveal your identity. Don't tell anyone, not even A2. Not because she'd hurt you, but because…"
She paused again, then helplessly waved her hand. "Actually, even if she knew it'd be fine. Just don't let that commander in the bunker find out. Otherwise, she'll definitely make a huge fuss. Then even if I don't say anything, that guy… Ugh, why can't I say anything!"
Looking at Yakor's expression of being forced to speak in riddles, Aiden became even more confused.
But since she couldn't say anything, Aiden could only change the topic. He said, "No matter what happens, the most important thing now is, you need to get up."
"You think I want to stay like this, pervert." Yakor muttered, then prepared to get up.
But before she could move, the apartment door opened...
———
A faint smile hung on A2's face. Though she had smiled often over the past few days living with Aiden, this time was different, this time, she came back from outside with a smile.
And the reason she was smiling… was simple. She had found an old comrade, one who had fought alongside her during the Pearl Island airborne operation, and was one of only two survivors from that mission.
An android from the Resistance faction, Anemone. She was also the current leader of this camp.
"Anemone, this is where I live now. Oh, and I met one… two companions."
"New companions? Incredible, there are actually people you can get along with."
"They're good people. That's why we get along well."
"Then I absolutely must see what kind of androids can get along with Number Two."
As they talked, A2 opened the door. But the moment she walked in, her smile vanished, she saw a scene that made her uncomfortable.
Yakor was straddling Aiden's chest, her hands gently resting on his shoulders...
"Number Two, why aren't you moving? Don't block me, let me see your new companions!" Behind her, Anemone stood on tiptoe, she wasn't as tall as A2, so this was the only way.
Then, she stood flat on her feet again, thought for a moment, and said, "Their way of getting along... is certainly unique..."
Unlike A2, who was often out surviving in the wild, Anemone, being the Resistance camp leader, knew far more.
A2 didn't respond. She silently walked over and reached out her hand.
Yakor wisely got up. She knew A2 wasn't trying to help her up.
"Ahem, no need, I can get up myself." Aiden suddenly felt like he was caught cheating. But thinking about it, these past few days, he and A2 had been pretending to be a pair of wandering lovers.
"Companions should help each other, you taught me that." The android girl seemed not to hear him, and coldly spoke those words. The android girl was angry.
Aiden could hear the displeasure in A2's tone. He forced a smile and reached for her hand.
Just like when Aiden had helped her before, A2 forcefully pulled him up. Then she reached out to dust off his collar, but remembering Yakor's warning, Aiden stepped back.
And immediately regretted it, he saw A2's expression turn even colder. Her sky-blue eyes narrowed to slits.
Being a camp leader, Anemone sensed something was off and stepped forward, saying, "Number Two, why don't you introduce them?"
"You ask them yourself." A2 suddenly lost interest, sat down on the sofa, and tugged her cloak forcefully.
"Alright then." Anemone nodded helplessly. Then she turned to Aiden and Yakor and said, "Let me introduce myself, I'm Anemone, android of the Resistance faction, and leader of this camp."
"So you're the big-shot friend A2 mentioned. Nice to meet you. I'm Aiden, A2's... boyfriend." Aiden thought for a moment and decided to go with that.
"Boyfriend?" Anemone blinked, looked at A2, and noticed her expression softened a little. Then she recalled a report from a few days ago, "That wandering android couple from the forest... was that you two?"
"If there wasn't another couple, then yes." Aiden replied.
"Nice to meet you." Anemone said with a gossipy smile.
Then she turned to Yakor, but the bespectacled girl simply said her name and leaned silently against the wall with folded arms.
Seeing this, Anemone didn't mind. What intrigued her most was Aiden, especially his relationship with Number Two.
But seeing A2's cold expression, she held her tongue. Though they had once been close comrades, she feared that saying the wrong thing might get her hunted down. She was no match for a YoRHa-type android, especially not a powerful experimental model.
After some thought, she said, "The reason I came with Number Two, besides seeing where she lives, was to meet her new companions. Now that I have, I won't disturb you further. I just got back and have a lot to deal with at camp, so I'll be going."
With that, she turned and walked toward the door.
At the door, she paused and turned back to A2. "Number Two, if you're free tomorrow, come see me. I have something I need your help with."
"Okay." A2 nodded coolly.
"Then, goodbye to you both. Hope to see you again tomorrow." Anemone waved to Aiden and Yakor, then closed the door and left.
As the door shut, the living room fell completely silent. All three were lost in thought.
After a while, Aiden, unable to bear the silence, being human after all, spoke first. "A2, you sleep on the bed tonight. I'll take the sofa. Yakor sleeps on the floor."
"No!"
"No."
A2 and Yakor spoke at the same time. Then they looked at each other.
"I want to sleep on the bed," Yakor said. "If not the bed, then at least the sofa."
"Then what about me?" Aiden didn't want to sleep on the floor either.
"You sleep with me." A2 said at that moment.
"No way!"
Again, two voices opposed, but this time, it was Aiden and Yakor.
A2 immediately turned to glare at Yakor. "Why?"
"Uh..." Yakor didn't know what to say. She couldn't exactly say it was because she was afraid A2 would find out Aiden was human.
"Fine, I'll sleep with you." Aiden, seeing that things would only get more awkward, took the initiative.
Though he was also worried A2 might discover his humanity, thinking about her reaction earlier, if he refused again, it would really be too hurtful.
