Chapter 60: Learning the Counter-Curses for Dark Magic
"Although I've mastered several max-level dark magic spells, apart from the three Unforgivable Curses, I still need to learn the counter-curses for the other dark magic spells as soon as possible."
The Christmas holidays passed day by day.
Harry, dragging Ron along, frequently went to the Mirror of Erised late at night to see his reflection in it.
Eventually, Dumbledore discovered them, the mirror was moved, and Harry seemed much more dejected.
But Dylan didn't have time to comfort him.
He had been researching the counter-curses for dark magic these past few days.
For some unknown reason, Professor Flitwick, who had initially hesitated to teach him the counter-curses for dark magic,
not only agreed to teach him the counter-curse for Fiendfyre but also, for the first time ever, offered to teach him the counter-curses for other dark magic spells besides Fiendfyre.
Dylan had been busy learning this during this time.
Besides this, he had many other things to do.
For example, planning to enter the Forbidden Forest.
This was a dangerous task, so Dylan had to make thorough preparations, regardless of when he entered or exited.
Or where to find Acromantulas and how to collect their venom after finding them.
These were all things Dylan needed to do.
And he couldn't neglect his other subjects; he had to improve in all of them simultaneously.
This resulted in Dylan's time being even more packed during the holidays.
"Next school year, the Defense Against the Dark Arts professor will change again."
Dylan suddenly thought of this while practicing the counter-curse for Fiendfyre.
Regarding the Defense Against the Dark Arts professor for the next school year, Dylan couldn't quite remember his name, it seemed to have a "Lock" in it somewhere.
However, Dylan remembered one thing about this guy very clearly.
That was that his other magic was quite mediocre, but he could be considered a master in the Obliviate Charm.
And he was also very boastful.
Especially fond of giving autographs.
"Although he's a guy who often uses the Obliviate Charm to steal other people's achievements, his abilities are average, and he's vain and conceited, but after he becomes a professor, his autograph will allow me to go to the Restricted Section and borrow the forbidden books inside."
Dylan remembered that this guy had originally tried to use the Obliviate Charm on Harry and Ron.
As a result, because Ron's wand was damaged, the boastful Lock-whatever had his wand backfire during the spellcasting, and the spell rebounded onto himself.
This eventually led to him completely losing his memory, after which he was sent to St. Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries for long-term care.
"Although he's pretty useless, he's still somewhat useful."
Dylan chuckled softly.
There was no such thing as an absolutely useless person in this world.
The reason that boastful guy could become a Hogwarts professor wasn't because he relied on the Obliviate Charm to plunder other people's achievements and brag about them?
"When the time comes, as long as I get this guy's autograph, I can go to the Restricted Section to take a look. Although Professor Flitwick agreed to teach me the counter-curses for a few dark magic spells, that's far from enough."
Dylan thought getting that boastful guy's autograph shouldn't be difficult.
Once he entered the Restricted Section, he could also properly use the books there to further verify some of his own ideas.
"If it weren't for the fact that my views, if mentioned in front of any professor, would inevitably be seen as unorthodox, I wouldn't have to learn everything on my own."
Dylan sighed softly.
The wand in his hand waved gently.
The counter-curses for Fiendfyre and other dark magic spells were actually not difficult for Dylan to learn.
Because the counter-curse for dark magic, in a sense, was just reversing the dark magic spell.
Therefore, in front of him, who could already be considered the world's most profound master of the six major dark magic spells,
it wasn't difficult to master the counter-curses for these dark magic spells.
Dylan specifically waited until Harry and the others were not in the dormitory and hid alone in his room.
"Fiendfyre!"
His wand tapped lightly, and pink Fiendfyre emerged from the tip of Dylan's wand, transforming into a lifelike pink fluffy rabbit.
The rabbit hopped in mid-air, soaring back and forth according to Dylan's will.
Just as it was about to hop onto Harry's bed, Dylan's wand twirled again.
The pink fluffy rabbit made of Fiendfyre hopped into the pile of wood he had prepared in advance.
"Sizzle!"
In the blink of an eye, the flames engulfed the wood, leaving not even a single cinder.
Just as the Fiendfyre was about to spread further and scorch the entire dormitory.
Dylan cast the counter-curse.
"Whoosh!"
Another streak of pink light shot out.
The unstoppable pink fluffy rabbit was enveloped by this magical power. Despite its bared fangs and claws, and the scorching flames wildly rolling, trying to devour everything,
no matter how it struggled, trying to break free from the restraints, it couldn't break through this layer of magical power.
Finally, the pink fluffy rabbit shrieked and extinguished completely with a soft "pop."
There was still a patch of black scorch marks on the ground.
"Reparo!"
Dylan flicked his wand at the mark.
A pink halo shot out, but the moment the pink light touched the scorched ground, the scorched area only trembled slightly.
However, in less than a second, the pink light dissipated like a bubble.
The black scorch mark on the ground remained stubbornly present, showing no signs of repair.
The expression on Dylan's face was calm. He wasn't surprised by this situation; he had already anticipated it.
He slowly stood up, reached out and grabbed a corner of the bed sheet, then gently pulled it down.
Harry's bed sheet fell, and the black scorch mark under Harry's bed was also firmly covered.
Dylan patted the bed sheet with satisfaction, got up, and returned to sit on his own bed.
"In the future, if I want to practice dark magic on a large scale, including their counter-curses, I might as well go to the Room of Requirement."
The Room of Requirement was extremely hidden and had a special protective mechanism, making it difficult for people to discover what someone was practicing inside.
Only those who truly had a need could find and enter it, and the scene inside the room would also change according to the need. Most importantly, it could also resist magical detection.
Therefore, if Dylan wanted to practice dark magic, the counter-curses for dark magic, and some of his ideas that needed verification, he could all conduct his research in the Room of Requirement.
This place was also one of the few places where Dylan didn't have to worry too much about Dumbledore noticing anything amiss.
"Maybe I'm being overly cautious. Although Dumbledore is a great wizard of this era, he is ultimately just a person. In the end, didn't Dumbledore even sacrifice his own life to set up a trap for Voldemort?"
Dylan felt he should relax a bit and not be suspicious of everything.
Dumbledore couldn't possibly know everything.
