Chapter 5 - The Evolution Pt. 1

This book could hold the answers to all of his questions. The only problem....

"IT COSTS 5,000 GOLD!!!!" He yelled out of shock.

He would never be able to afford that. His parents could buy it for him but he'd have to reveal not just his access to the Dark Web but his new magic as well. Well, looks like he'll have to put it on pause until he can come up with the money.

Just then a notification popped up in his email. He closed the Dark Web and opened his email. It was an email from his school.

"Hello students, please be ready for our trip to the Asmodeus Dungeon tomorrow. We will be practicing combat so please be prepared.

-Principal Haxward"

So they were having an outing the next day. The only bad thing about Sorcerer School, one day off. However, this would be a great chance for him to test his new abilities. Only problem was that he couldn't get caught. He had to make sure that he snuck away to conduct his tests.

Looking at the clock, it was already 9pm. His parents weren't home. Not unusual for them though, seeing as they were very powerful Sorcerers, they often worked late nights. He made himself and dinner and showered. It was getting late so he decided to head to bed. As his head hit the pillow he was excited for the day that lay ahead of him.

When he woke up the next day, he got dressed and headed to school. When he got there, Angelo could see that all the students were already outside. After about 20 minutes the gym teacher, Mr. Rockner, stepped up.

His deep voice bellowed, "Listen up. For this trip you will be in pairs. We have already decided them based on your strengths and weaknesses. This trip will different than the others. You will be allowed to fight and you will actually be graded on your team's performance."

Mr. Rockner started reading off the pairs. Angelo zoned out until he heard his name.

"Team 16, Angelo Helleck and Xavier Kroll."

Xavier Kroll? Angelo had never heard that name before. He began to walk to the front and saw that another person was pushing through the crowd. Both stepping up and taking their team's badges, Angelo got a better look at Xavier. He was average height and had lean muscle, with auburn hair and bright green eyes.

Angelo was confused how he'd never seen him before, so he assumed that it was a new student. Of course they stick him with the new guy. If it had been someone that he knew was strong, he would've let them handle the fighting while he snuck off to perform his tests. Now he had no clue how good this kid was, or even his magic for that fact. Taking their seats on the bus, Angelo decided to take this chance to find out.

"Hello, name's Angelo. Nice to meet you."

"Ummm...Xavier. Nice to meet you too."

"So, are you new here?"

"Yeah, I transfered here yesterday. They said I didn't have to participate today but I wanted the opportunity", Xavier said with a shrug.

'Maybe he won't have heard of me', Angelo thought.

"Nice. So, what's your magic?"

Xavier waved his hand, blue and white sparks danced on his fingertips.

"Lightning, nice", Angelo braced, "Well, I...um..."

Xavier raised his hand, "I already heard."

Angelo's shoulders sagged, "You did?"

"Of course. Who hasn't heard of the 'Powerless Helleck'? Well, that doesn't bother me. I'm not very strong so I'm not much better."

Angelo felt relieved that he wasn't immediately hated.

"Alright, everyone off the bus."

They had been talking so deeply that they hadn't even realized they were already there. They all filed off the bus and followed Mr. Rockner into the Dungeon. He put down a bag and opened it to reveal a bunch of basic weapons.

"Now everyone, grab a weapon and then split off. If you need help then shout."

All the team's broke off and took different paths. Most of the weaker teams would stick close together to help each other while the stronger teams would venture off on their own.

"I think we should split off from the main group", Angelo said.

"Agreed."

The pair set off down a side tunnel that only a few groups went down. They kept walking for a bit, until they came across some basic golem.

A sorcerer's only job wasn't to look cool. They were soldiers, protectors, and the only ones that could keep the dungeons from overflowing. Left unchecked, the dungeons would overflow and the monsters would roam free in the above world. The dungeon they were in was a Tier 1 dungeon, so the highest monster was a low C Class. Due to this, they frequently let the students go on outings where they could train and help to control the dungeon.

"Of course it had to be earth golems", Xavier sighed, "My lightning is completely useless."

"I've done a lot of studying on different monsters, they have a soft spot on the back their neck, just underneath their neckplate", Angelo replied as he pulled a plain silver blade from his belt.

He snuck up behind one of them and stabbed down into the nape of it's neck. The creature turned to dust.

"Creature defeated: 50 XP

First time defeating this creature: 50 XP"

'Nice, a good bit of XP.'

"See, it's easy."

"I'll try it out I guess", Xavier said as he pulled a knife.

He ran up and, using his lightning to distract it, used the same move as Angelo. The creature crumbled to dust and he smiled a bit, "Thanks."

They proceeded to carve through the remaining golems. Angelo received a good bit of XP and even leveled up. He put his new Stat Point into Strength. If this was an Earth dungeon then the extra Strength would help a lot. After they were done, they sat back and relaxed.

"AHHHHHHHHHHH"

The scream echoed throughout the dungeon. Judging by the volume level, it was pretty close. Angelo jumped up and ran towards it, ready for a fight.
