Chapter 31 - Chapter 29: The Quick and the Cats

The Karasuno gym crackled with tension as the whistle pierced the air—Nekoma vs. Karasuno, April 9th.

The net split them—cats and crows in a long-awaited clash.

Ukai's eyes were razor-sharp; across the way, Nekomata's grin curled with mischief.

Hinata bounced at the net, front row, his legs coiled tight. Hold back later… but not yet.

Kenma stepped to the baseline, replacing his game console with a volleyball.

His stillness was deceptive, focus unnerving in its quiet depth.

Boom!

The serve floated—gentle, precise, and dipping at an awkward angle.

Smack!

Asahi stepped in—arms steady, receive clean.

"Up!"

Hinata was already airborne. A blur.

Kageyama's hands snapped the set—Now!

The super quick flew.

Boom!

The ball scorched past Inuoka's late hands and hammered the floor—wood shuddering.

Hinata landed light on his feet, fist pumping. "YES!" Got 'em!

[Karasuno 1 – 0 Nekoma]

For a beat, Nekoma froze.

Kuroo's smirk twitched. What the hell was that?!

Yamamoto gaped. He was already up?! That's insane!

Inuoka blinked in disbelief. So fast…

Yaku hissed. Didn't even react in time!

Kenma's eyes narrowed behind his bangs. That's their quick.

Nekomata leaned forward in his chair, eyes gleaming. "Well, well. Karasuno's grown fangs. That shrimp's a weapon."

Naoi muttered from the bench, scribbling notes. "Speed's unreal. Setter's a monster too."

Karasuno took the serve.

Bang!

Daichi launched a firm, steady serve.

Smack!

Yaku met it cleanly. "Got it!"

Kenma set—quick flick to Yamamoto on the left.

Crack!

Yamamoto's spike tore toward the court—but Hinata and Tsukishima were already up.

Thud! The ball was shut down. Blocked cold.

"Shut him down!" Hinata grinned, fire in his eyes. "Read that one!"

Tsukishima smirked. "Too loud, mohawk."

[Karasuno 2 – 0 Nekoma]

Yamamoto scowled. Damn shrimp—how's he that high?!

Kuroo frowned. Their middle block is airtight. Shorty's a pest.

Yaku adjusted his stance. He's fast. Gotta keep an eye on him.

Kenma tilted his head. He's not just a spiker… that block timing's no joke.

Nekomata chuckled. "That Number 10 isn't one-trick. He's a versatile little crow."

Karasuno held serve.

Boom!

Daichi's serve stayed low and sharp.

Smack!

Kai received—shaky, but it went up.

Kenma flicked a lightning set to Yamamoto again.

Crack!

Yamamoto's spike screamed forward—Asahi dove—

Smack! "Up!"

Hinata leaped into the pocket of air again.

Kageyama's set was perfect. Another super quick.

Boom!

The ball slammed past Kai. Second spike.

"Another one!" Hinata whooped. "Too easy!"

[Karasuno 3 – 0 Nekoma]

Kuroo's jaw tensed. Again?! That quick is a nightmare.

Yamamoto growled. He's a freak! Someone stop him!

Inuoka winced. I can't even see it coming…

Yaku muttered. Their setter's too good. Perfect sync.

Kenma's gaze sharpened. They're in rhythm. This is dangerous.

Nekomata nodded. "That duo—setter and Number 10—lethal precision."

Karasuno's momentum surged.

Bang!

Daichi delivered another sharp serve.

Smack!

Yaku received again—clean.

Kenma tossed one to Inuoka.

Thwack!

Inuoka spiked—Hinata and Tsukishima launched—

Thwack!—they touched it. One-touch slowed the ball.

Nishinoya dove. "Got it!"

The rally continued.

Kageyama read the moment—another quick—Hinata again—

Boom!

Past Yamamoto. Third spike.

"YES!" Hinata cheered. "Can't stop us!"

[Karasuno 4 – 0 Nekoma]

Inuoka stumbled back. They touched it? Already?!

Kuroo swore. They're reading our spikes.

Yaku's hands clenched. One-touch isn't enough. We need to shut them down.

Kenma frowned, breath low. Tall blocker's tracking me. Shoyo relentless.

Nekomata's eyes gleamed. "Karasuno's clicking—quicks and blocks, moving in harmony."

Naoi scribbled faster. We're overwhelmed. Fast.

Boom!

Daichi kept the pressure up—low serve, angled tight.

Smack!

Fukunaga received, but it wobbled.

Kenma still set—quick toss to Yamamoto.

Crack!

Yamamoto spiked again—this time past Tsukishima.

Tanaka lunged—Smack! "Up!"

Hinata shot into the air early. Nekoma's blockers—Kuroo, Inuoka—tracked him.

But Kageyama grinned—set flipped left.

Tanaka roared in—

Boom!

Past Kai. Clean hit. Point.

"Take that!" Tanaka shouted. "Fooled ya!"

[Karasuno 5 – 0 Nekoma]

Kuroo cursed. Decoy?! That shrimp pulled both blockers!

Yamamoto's eyes narrowed. They're playing us!

Inuoka blinked. He didn't even spike…

Yaku growled. Setter's sneaky. Crows are tricksters.

Kenma's eyes widened. He baited us. That was… smart.

Nekomata raised his hand. "Timeout!"

The whistle shrieked. Nekoma reeled, stunned.

Nekoma huddled.

Nekomata's voice was calm but sharp. "Alright. Karasuno's showing their claws. Time to adjust."

He tapped his clipboard.

"Daichi—their captain. Steady as a rock. Every receive's clean. Keeps them alive. Kageyama—precision setter. Surgical hands, deceptive tempo. He's the brain."

Kuroo nodded, brow furrowed. "Yeah—switches targets mid-play. Bastard's unpredictable."

Nekomata pointed to the court. "And the Number 10—Hinata. Speed's inhuman. Quicks, blocks, decoys. He's their spark plug. Three spikes, one block already. He's everywhere."

Yamamoto growled. "He's pissing me off. Too damn fast."

Inuoka muttered, "Small… but he's a ghost."

Nekomata's smile turned sharp. "Karasuno's strength is sync. Daichi anchors. Kageyama orchestrates. Hinata unleashes chaos. Their block's tightening too—tall middle, Tsukishima, he's reading you."

He jabbed his finger at the board. "So we disrupt. Target receives. Break rhythm. Wear them down. Cats hunt with patience."

Yaku's jaw clenched. "I'll stop that shrimp's quick. No matter what."

'Really he called him shrimp he is shorter than him' EveryoneThought

Kenma sighed. "I'll adjust. But they're strong…"

Kuroo's smirk returned. "Let's claw back. Rattle their cage."

Across the court, Karasuno's energy simmered.

Hinata panted hard. That's enough for now… maybe ease off a little.

Kageyama glared at him. "Don't slack, dumbass."

Tsukishima scoffed. "They're falling apart. Pathetic."

Daichi clapped his hands. "Keep it clean. Nekoma won't stay down."

Ukai grinned. "Good start. Keep the pressure. Cats are scrambling."

The timeout ended.

Both teams stepped back onto the court—Nekoma's eyes sharp, fire rekindled. Karasuno's rhythm pulsed, burning hot beneath the surface.

The next exchange would decide the momentum.

To be continued…
