Chapter 39 - Caught

Hearing something Domnus turned away from his customer and looked up to where the noise was coming from.

He saw Loki and one of her familia members rushing down from one of the buildings down to where Domnus and his customer are.

"Now you said you wanted a Gladius, right?" Domnus said hurrying the customer.

"Yes, now how much would that be?" the customer asked.

"Twenty-one thousand valis," Domnus answered, pulling out the sword.

"Deal!" the customer said taking the valis out of his pocket.

"STOP," Loki yelled at the two.

The customer turned her eyes to Loki, while Domnus quickly switched the Gladius with the valis the customer still had the money in her hands.

"A pleasure," Domnus said while stashing the money in his stand.

"Goddess Loki?" the customer said confused.

"Did you not say, 'Yes Goddess Loki'?" Loki said while her chauffeur that was on the roof with her was carefully climbing down.

"Yes Goddess Loki, I did," the customer replied, "Did you say to not spend money?" the customer asked their Goddess.

"I said," Loki said razing her tone, "To not buy from him!" she stated, pointing at Domnus.

"No refunds by the way," Domnus commented.

"I know that," Loki said turning to Domnus, "I've heard from my Captain," she mumbled.

"My Goddess I think it's clear that she didn't hear you," the familia member that was following Loki said, "Perhaps we could give her the benefit of the doubt," the member offered.

"That's right Goddess Loki!" the customer said grabbing onto some hope, "I had no idea!" she said.

"You agreed to not do something, and then you did it!" Loki exclaimed, "And now you won't be able to go to the dungeon for a week!' she declared.

"Wait Goddess Loki please reconsider," the customer begged, "I have a dungeon dive with my party tomorrow!" she begged.

"You should have thought of that before you bought from this man," Loki told the customer turning her head away from her.

"Goddess Loki," the customer lamented.

"Shall we go my Goddess?" the familia member asked.

"Yes," Loki said putting her arms up.

With a quick swipe, the familia member was once more a steed for the conniving Goddess. Without a word said the two took off in the direction of the Loki familia's house.

Or so Domnus guessed, it was just as likely that Loki was going a liquor store, the only person that knows is her, much to the chagrin of the person carrying her.

"So now that she is gone," Domnus said, "Would you like to buy anything else?" he asked turning to his previous customer.

However, as Domnus looked, there was no one there. Looking around more Domnus saw the customer slinking away as fast as she could.

And there was someone else walking around, an adventurer?

They sure looked like one, they had old, damaged armor, and a sword with many scratches. Yet, they were being barred entry from the dungeon. Their efforts to enter were waisted however, the guards refused, and the person wasn't strong enough to force his way through.

Dejected, the man turned around and began walking back from where he came. His sword dragged on the ground, leaving a shallow cut in the ground as he walked, and his eyes were locked onto the ground in contemplation.

"May I ask a question," Domnus called out to the man.

His eyes shot up and immediately locked onto to Domnus.

"What do you need," the man limply replied making his way over to Domnus's stand.

"That's quite a sword for someone that can't go into the dungeon," Domnus pointed out, "Want to sell it?" Domnus asked the man.

"Gods forbid," he replied pulling the sword closer to him, his eyes fondly looking at the sword, "This is my only memory of my life," he mumbled under his breath.

"An odd thing to keep a memento for a person still living," Domnus wondered, "Why do a thing like that," he asked.

"None of your business," he said looking back at Domnus.

"I'm just trying to convince you to ease your grip on your sword," Domnus commented, "So what is your story?" he then asked.

"Don't worry about it," the man replied, "Don't want to ruin your business," he commented.

"A certain someone made a ruckus and scared a few others away," Domnus replied turning to looking in the direction that certain goddess went.

"I want three barrels of wine," Loki demanded.

"My Goddess please reconsider," her chauffeur begged, "We have enough wine at home for the entire familia, we need no more," he reasoned.

"Come on," Loki replied, "We can only dip into those reserves if there's a big familia party, I need more wine for me," she complained.

"My Goddess I was talking about your wine," the chauffer replied.

"If you really want to know, " the man said putting an elbow on the stand, "I used to be an adventurer, not the best, not the worst, just an adventurer living in my familia," he told.

"And your god's name?" Domnus asked.

"Hypnos," the man replied, "I remember having to wait for a week to get my status updated because he was asleep!" he reminisced with a laugh.

"But," he said, his laugh trailering off, "One day I was in the dungeon, the next day," he says putting his hands together, "Poof, he was gone," he said blowing his hands out. "No fanfare, no funeral, just one day there, the next not," he explained.

"I thought at least the gods get a dramatic send off into heaven," Domnus replied, "With a big beam of light," he explained.

"That's only for the God's with larger familia's, the better the familia, the better the sendoff," he answered.

"I'm guessing you weren't the only one in your familia?" Domnus then asked.

"No, but they all went to new Gods," he answered, "They all pledged their lives to new God's, said they would do anything their God's would say, " he rambled, "But I can't, but I have to." he said, "I've spent most my life adventuring, I don't have good enough skills to do anything else."

"Well, if you sell that sword of yours, maybe you can start up a new business or something," Domnus offered, "Worked for me," he said.

"Sorry, I'll sell the clothes off my back before I sell this sword," the man said getting up.

"That can be discussed, what's that cloak made out off?" Domnus asked.

"Lizardman hide," the man replied taking the cloak off, "Made from a rare drop from floor twenty-six," he further explains.

"How about, five thousand valis," Domnus offered.

"That's not enough to start a business," the man replied.

"But it is enough to get training," Domnus argued.

"No it isn't" the man responded, "Make it ten thousand," the man offered.

"Five thousand and five hundred," Domnus offered in response.

"Eight thousand," the man replied.

"Seven thousand, that's as high as I go," Domnus finalized.

"Fine," the man said taking off his cloak, "With my other savings I can make it," he mumbled.

"A pleasure doing business with you," Domnus said bringing up the valis.
