Chapter 3 - chapter three

After breakfast, Lisa, the kids, and I were hanging out in the front yard when Selena and her fiance, Nicolas, showed up.

"Daus!" Selena called out to get my attention, as I was too engrossed in my phone.

"Heyie!" I replied joyfully, giving her a warm hug.

"This is Nicolas," she introduced her fiancé. This was actually the first time we were meeting, since I don't get to come home often.

"Oh my gosh!" I exclaimed, giving him a hug.

"You must be Daus," he said with a charming smile."I've heard so much about you... of course, from your Instagram... sorry, your sister," he stuttered. Selena chuckled and said, "Okay, let's go say hi to Mom," pushing him gently towards the house. As they walked in, I heard Selena tease him, "Why are you acting so nervous?" Nicolas replied, "He's a fashion icon," referring to me, which made me laugh a little.I was too caught up eavesdropping on Selena and Nicolas' conversation that I didn't notice Cara until she said.

 "Dee."

*Flash back*

"Jayden, Jayden!" I called out to Jayden as he walked out of the cafeteria, my voice laced with desperation.

"What, Dee?" he yelled back, his tone cold and detached.

"You can't do this; we should talk about this right," I said pleadingly, my eyes welling up with tears.

"No, Dee, I don't have anything to say to you. I already told you we are done. This thing we thought we had was just a fiction of our minds. There was no future; you know that," he said, his expression unyielding.I felt a surge of emotions: sadness, anger, and regret.

"But..." I was about to say, but he cut me off. "Come see, please stop," he said, his voice firm.

"Please, just stop. Please" Then he walked away, leaving me swamped in thoughts of what went wrong and what I did wrong. Then Cara showed up from nowhere, a sly grin spreading across her face.

"I knew it, I knew something was off between you two," she said, her voice dripping with malice.

"What do you mean?" I asked, anxious to know what she knew.Cara continued, her expression smug.

"I always wondered why he called you Dee instead of Daus like the rest of us, but then I just brushed it off, thinking he was just messing with you since you are Selena's brother... but things started getting weird." She paused, studying me intently.

"Well, it didn't start now, the weirdness. There was a time a rumor was going on around school that you guys were seeing each other, but there was so much doubt because it's Jayden we are talking about... then boom, he started going out with Selena, and everything blew off like that."

She kept talking, her voice relentless. "Then at Jayden's party, I noticed the way you guys were looking at each other... I knew something was off, and I had to look into it... and oh boy, did I get evidence... but none of them were showing the real stuff... and when I comforted Jayden, he denied it, but I have something that he can't deny." She showed me a recording on her phone, her expression triumphant.

I felt my heart sink, my mind reeling with the implications. I realized she had been blackmailing Jayden, which explained why he had been acting strange.

"I can't believe you, Daus, to your own sister," she continued to talk, but I cut her off, my voice laced with anger.

"You can't believe me," I said, giving out a wicked laugh. "I started going out with Jayden before she even thought of holding hands with him, so if anyone is supposed to be mad here, it's me." I added, my voice firm. "So do whatever you want with your bullshit ass evidence." I left.

*End of flash back*

"Oh, sorry, Daus," she mocked, her expression scornful. She still doesn't like me not that I feel any different. "Sorry for calling you Dee," she added, then I smiled, trying to provoke her.

"Cara, oh my gosh, I'm actually surprised you are still alive... I thought you'd have found someone else to nose around their lives that would get rid of you, but well... it seems you can't get enough of me." I teased, my voice dripping with sarcasm.

She was about to talk when Selena called her in. "Cara, come on"

"I wish we could've talked longer, but I guess we'll catch up later," I said, wrapping up the conversation and leaving.

"Bitch," I muttered as I walked away, my expression annoyed.
