Chapter 61: Child of destruction

Arora stared up in confusion and awe as she noticed a light emanating from above. It seemed like it was coming from beyond the underground base they had brought her to. Beyond the sky, even beyond the planet itself. She wasn't sure why, but it felt like it was coming from beyond the universe entirely.

She remained silent for several moments as she processed its words.

It had spoken directly into her mind.

Her mouth was still sealed, so she couldn't do anything besides think about her question.

'Who... is that?'

Arora's eyes widened even more in disbelief for several moments. 'it can read my mind?' she thought as she stared into the light.

She considered its words carefully. It was clearly a deity of some sort... or perhaps a devil. It was a being beyond comprehension regardless. It had stopped her pain and agony with ease. It had even commanded the absolute law of time to halt. Mr Ann had taught them about religion at the orphanage as a subject of study, not as a practice, so she understood what all powerful beings like these were capable of.

She was confused about why a being of this caliber had decided to help her, of all people.

Especially considering what her deepest wishes for everything had become.

'So be it then' She thought.

She didn't care if this was a divine deity. She didn't care if it was a harrowing devil. She didn't even care if this was simply a delusion of her fractured mind. There was only one thing she cared about now. And if this being could help her achieve it, she would gladly pay any price.

"I want to destroy!" she thought, her features contorting with rage as she pushed against the restraints again.

'I want to destroy them!'

'I want to destroy everyone in this room!'

'I want to destroy this organization!'

'...I want to destroy this broken world.'

"I want to destroy everything..." she thought as sorrowful tears fell from her bloodshot eyes.

The Primordial said nothing for several long moments. At some point, Arora began to think it had left her alone.

Then the voice returned as the light began to shine even brighter.

"Ahh!!!" Arora writhed in agony on the streets of Hai as she clutched her head in despair. The memories of past life came Flooding in, like a dam bursting. The pain was excruciating. She felt every emotion, every pain, every thought her past self had experienced in one fell swoop.

Dorian watched her struggling form with confusion as he quickly rose to his feet.

"What the hell is wrong with her?" Beck asked nervously.

"Who cares? Let's get out of here, now!" Grug shouted, turning to flee the alleyway with Beck following close behind.

"No!"

Grug and Beck halted as they suddenly heard Dorian's command.

"We can't leave just yet."

"...Not without killing her" he said, a slightly crazed smile spreading across his face.

"Dorian, what the hell are you talking about?" Grug shouted back.

"She's a Reincarnator. Not a half-human like Arbus. When she's done with whatever she's doing right now, she'll kill us all!"

"Yeah, he's right! We have to get out of here and report to the elders!" Beck added, his usual bravado completely gone.

Dorian turned to them, his gaze filled with disdain for their cowardice.

"You idiots! Don't you see the emperor-given chance in front of us?" he shouted. "What do you think will happen if we run now and simply report this to the elders? Nothing! That's what!"

He stepped closer as he muttered. "But if we kill her ourselves... we'll be seen as heroes. We'll no longer be at the bottom of the barrel. We'll be treated like true warriors."

The two boys exchanged uncertain glances as they contemplated his words. Eventually, they realized Dorian was right. Killing a human now would forever cement their names in Tarok's history. It was considered the greatest honor for a Tarokian to successfully kill a Reincarnator β€” which was why their Chief and his ancestors were so widely regarded.

"Y-you're right. This is our chance to be legends," Grug said reluctantly.

Beck hesitated for a few moments before sighing deeply. "Since we're all in agreement, let's hurry up and kill her before she comes to, or someone finds us." He said as he pulled out an aTer iron pipe that he had stolen from his blacksmith father's shop. That was also where he acquired the chains they had used on Arbus earlier.

Dorian returned his focus to Arora's trembling form as the three of them rushed toward her together. They were too scared to approach individually, but the same couldn't be said for when they moved as a group.

Dorian smiled as his fist came within seconds of turning Arora's head to paste.

'Finally, finally I'll be respected by everyone. Finally I'll be praised by my father. No more ridicule, no more gazes of contempt. I'll finally become a true warrior!!' he thought excitedly.

....But then suddenly.

"I.. remember!"

ZING

A moment later, destruction erupted from Arora as her ability activated in response to the torrent of memories and emotions that overwhelmed her.

Dorian, Grug, and Beck looked on in disbelief at Arora's form, one last time.

Before they were erased from existence and embraced by nothingness forever.

BOOM!

The dome of destruction spread far beyond the small alleyway, encompassing over a dozen houses in the area. When it finally ceased, nothing it had touched remained.

The citizens and visitors of Hai that had been spared from the blast slowly turned their gazes toward the sudden flash of light. They realised in horror that everything and everyone in the vicinity of the light had been wiped away. Not even dust was spared from the erasure.

All they could see was the wide, deep crater that had formed after the blast. Within it, was a floating young girl with flowing brown hair and white highlights.

Arora glanced around the empty crater she had created, her expression blank as she observed the destruction she had caused.

"I remember everything."
