Chapter 9 - A New Goal

Midel's POV

Busy cars couldn't stop honking as I walked by the sideroad. Umbrella on my right hand and a white flower on the other. Not long after, I stop walking and waited for the traffic light before changing color.

Peeked upward and saw still the dark cloudy sky and the rain pouring like a tear from the heavens. As minutes go by, it's possibly going to rain heavy eventually. I better finish this little trip before that happens.

Not long after, I arrived to my destination. Such a gloomy place, didn't even change a bit. And just like what I anticipated the rain's pouring more heavier by the minute.

After passing along blocks of tombstones, I stopped infront of a specific one. With the name 'Laila Gray' engraved on it. The memory of her existence is still fresh inside me. I don't know what else to do to honor it rather than not forgetting her completely.

Still. It's a gloomy shame how she was taken from us in such an early stage of her life. After placing the flower on her stone, I bid her another goodbye before leaving.

I took a taxi toward home since the rain really started pouring heavily before I could even leave the City Graveyard.

And what I saw infront of the house entrance when I opened it was not entirely shocking. Still, it's a thing I don't believe myself to get used to at all.

She smiled as soon as she saw me enter. "Where have you gone to at such a bad weather? Glad you could make it right before supper."

I did not respond. While removing my wet shoes, I could tell that someone's cooking in the kitchen. It's probably dad. But I didn't care to look.

I walked passed the living room and catched a glimpse of my brother on the couch. But I don't want him to notice me at all so I just did not care at all. "Can't you greet mom and dad first before creeping inside your room again?"

But of course, he is still that big brother I know. Always trying to notice these small and appropriate things, that he finds so important for this so-called family closure to happen.

So I stopped by the first step of the stairs. Sighed softly so that he won't noticed and finally peeked a little to the kitchen area. "Hey dad." I called out in a monotone voice. I don't care if Azmael noticed the tone of my voice.

Then the broad figure by the kitchen turned his head on me. And that old face resembling my brother's face a bit, smiled sweetly while still holding the pan. "I cooked your favorite. Join us to dinner before changing your clothes, Midel."

"I'm not sure."

Azmael coughed. Probably intentional.

I sighed again. "Yeah, dad. I'll be down in a minute."

I did not wait for his response or anything. I just went upstairs straight inside my room and let my body dropped on the bed. I wanna go to sleep so bad. The sound of the rain outside is so soothing. Like it's tempting me to just don't get up and drown my self into relaxation.

But things really don't go as plan or what you wished to.

And here I am. Sitting with my family, eating quietly by the table. I noticed my mother's gaze to me. And eventually broke the silence in between all of us. "How was school, Mid?"

"It's fine."

"Where did you go earlier?" This time, dad asked me.

It took me five long seconds before answering. "I visited Laila's grave. It's her death anniversary today."

"We know," mother said, smiling, touching father's shoulder. "That's why we are here. To commemorate her passing."

Azmael's drinking from his glass.

"Yeah." I nodded. Blankly staring at my food. "I mean it's the least of what we can do, right? For not even giving her the justice she badly deserved."

Azmael slightly slammed the glass as he puts it down on the table. Glared at me silently but I don't wanna care.

Father sighed. Also, I can feel his mad eyes on me. Raising one of his eyebrow. "What are you implying again, Mid?"

"You already know why I'm acting like this, dad." I returned his stare calmly, but no matter how long I've been doing this, it's really hard to get used to. But I don't wanna stop till I get what I want.

"Why can't you just forgive your brother?"

Mother held my father by the chest and arm. "Honey."

But dad couldn't just let this slide. Until he pointed to my face with a suppressed anger and continued. "Your sister's death was an accident. It's never your brother's fault—you know that!"

But that suppressed voice was never held long as it transformed into a shout. "Honey, stop it." Mother called out.

I shook my head. "This is why I hated this family since she was gone."

"Mid, you're being too disrespectful."

"And i'll continue doing so not until you'll request to open up the case again." Stood up and walked straight upstairs to my room without looking back. "Or else I'll do it myself eventually."

"Mid, come back here right now!"

"Honey, stop it! Just, let him be for now."

I could still here them arguing downstairs. So I took my head gear out and put it on my head. And finally. The voices stopped.

But inside the game, the rain is also pouring, while I am standing right beside a quest board with a little roof to cover me.

"Hey. Glad I saw you here before I could chat."

My head automatically turned to the man beside me as soon as I heard him spoke. It's Ceil.

"Something wrong?" He suddenly asked as soon as he saw my blank expression.

"What do you want?"

"Huh?"

"I thought you want to send a chat for me."

"Oh! Right. I just wanna tell you the news about a big tournament coming soon. I just thought you might be interested?"

A Big tournament. That sounds familiar.

"Sure. I'm in."

He smiled. "Yeah. But, in order to do that, we still need three more members to join our team—and of course, we need an official guild to do anything else before that. You still in?"

I faced him, hands inside my pockets. "Just tell me what to do, and we'll do it."

His smile got wider. "Okay. So, let's talk about it over a quest, shall we?"

"Anywhere you want will do. Just not in my house at the moment."

"Glad I was informed beforehand."
