Chapter 10 - Back to School

Paramveer Singh stepped into the bustling hallways of Midtown High School, his backpack slung over one shoulder and a sense of calm determination in his stride. After weeks of chaos, danger, and life-altering revelations, the mundane routine of school felt almost surreal. The familiar sights and sounds—lockers slamming, students chatting, the faint hum of fluorescent lights—were a stark contrast to the high-stakes world he had recently been thrust into.

But Paramveer wasn't the same person who had left for his so-called "sick leave." The Karma Seal on his hand, the merging of the Third Raikage's template, and the $100 million sitting in his bank account had changed him in ways he was still coming to terms with. Physically, he was almost unrecognizable. The once-chubby teenager had transformed into a lean, muscular young man, his face sharper and his posture more confident. He had done his best to hide the changes by wearing loose clothes, but there was no disguising the fact that he had lost a significant amount of weight.

As he walked down the hallway, he noticed the curious glances from his classmates. Some whispered to each other, their eyes darting toward him. Paramveer ignored them, focusing on the task at hand: blending back into his old life, at least for now.

---

Paramveer entered his first-period class, his eyes scanning the room. It was a typical high school scene—students chatting, doodling in notebooks, or half-asleep at their desks. But his gaze quickly landed on a few familiar faces.

Peter Parker sat near the front, his lanky frame hunched over a notebook as he scribbled furiously. He looked like a younger, skinnier version of Tobey Maguire, complete with the awkward posture and nervous energy. Paramveer couldn't help but smile. 'So this is the future Spider-Man,' he thought. 'He's even more of a nerd than I expected.'

Near the window, Mary Jane Watson was deep in conversation with her boyfriend, Eugene "Flash" Thompson. Flash was the quintessential high school bully—tall, athletic, and perpetually smug. He had his arm draped over Mary Jane's shoulder, his loud laugh grating on Paramveer's nerves. Mary Jane, for her part, looked as stunning as ever, her fiery red hair cascading over her shoulders. But there was a tension in her posture, a subtle unease that Paramveer couldn't quite place.

As Paramveer took his seat, he caught Mary Jane's eye. For a brief moment, their gazes locked, and a flicker of something—guilt? awkwardness?—passed between them. Then Mary Jane quickly looked away, her cheeks tinged with pink. Paramveer sighed inwardly. The night they had spent together was a secret they both wanted to forget, but it hung between them like an unspoken truth.

---

The first day back was as uneventful as Paramveer had expected. The teachers droned on about assignments and upcoming tests, and the students alternated between boredom and mild panic. But beneath the surface, there was an undercurrent of tension—especially between Paramveer and Mary Jane.

During lunch, Paramveer found himself sitting alone at a table in the corner of the cafeteria. He wasn't exactly a social outcast, but he had never been part of the popular crowd either. As he picked at his food, he noticed Mary Jane sitting a few tables away with Flash and their friends. She seemed to be avoiding his gaze, her laughter a little too forced, her smiles a little too bright.

Paramveer sighed, pushing his tray aside. He knew things were complicated between them, but he hadn't expected it to be this awkward. He had hoped they could just move on and pretend nothing had happened, but it was clear that wasn't going to be easy.

---

As the day went on, Paramveer couldn't help but notice the dynamics between Mary Jane, Flash, Peter, and Harry Osborn. It was like something out of a soap opera.

Peter Parker, the shy and awkward science whiz, was hopelessly in love with Mary Jane. He stole glances at her whenever he thought no one was looking, his face turning red whenever she smiled at him. But Peter was too timid to make a move, especially with Flash in the picture.

Harry Osborn, on the other hand, was the polar opposite of Peter. The son of billionaire industrialist Norman Osborn, Harry was confident, charming, and effortlessly cool. He was also head over heels for Mary Jane, though he tried to play it cool. Harry and Peter were best friends, which only added to the complexity of the situation.

Mary Jane, for her part, seemed to enjoy the attention but was careful not to lead anyone on. Her dream was to become a film star and escape the poverty she had grown up in, and she wasn't about to let high school drama get in the way of that.

Paramveer watched it all with a mix of amusement and exasperation. 'Teenagers,' he thought, shaking his head. 'They have no idea what real problems are.'

As the final bell rang, signaling the end of the school day, Paramveer packed up his things and headed for the exit. But before he could make it out the door, he felt a hand clamp down on his shoulder.

"Hey, Singh," Flash said, his voice dripping with mockery. "Where've you been, man? You look like you've been starving yourself."

Paramveer turned to face him, his expression calm but his eyes sharp. "Just a little sick leave, Thompson. Nothing to worry about."

Flash smirked, clearly enjoying himself. "Yeah, well, you might want to hit the gym or something. You're looking a little… scrawny."

Paramveer resisted the urge to roll his eyes. If only Flash knew the truth—that he could probably snap him in half without breaking a sweat. But he wasn't about to start a fight in the middle of school. Not yet, anyway.

"Thanks for the advice," Paramveer said dryly. "I'll keep that in mind."

Flash laughed, clapping him on the back a little too hard. "Anytime, buddy."

As Flash walked away, Paramveer caught Mary Jane's eye again. She looked conflicted, as if she wanted to say something but didn't know how. Paramveer gave her a small nod, then turned and walked out the door.

As Paramveer walked home, he couldn't help but feel a sense of relief. The first day back had been awkward, but it could have been worse. At least no one had figured out his secret—yet.

But deep down, he knew this calm wouldn't last. The Karma Seal, the Third Raikage's template, the $100 million—it was only a matter of time before someone connected the dots. And when that happened, he would need to be ready.

For now, though, he was content to enjoy the quiet. High school might be boring, but it was a welcome break from the chaos of his new life.
