"Could she really be that Kayako Saeki?!"

Fujihara Tetsu felt a chill run down his spine. Even with his mental fortitude, he couldn't help but feel that life had become utterly meaningless and that he might be in grave danger.

All fear stems from insufficient firepower. If it were the kind of ghost that could be physically defeated, Fujihara wouldn't have been afraid no matter how many showed up.

But unfortunately, Kayako was exactly the kind of ghost impervious to physical attacks—she was more like a concept than a creature, an entity that simply couldn't be killed. She was the curse itself!

As one of Japan's most infamous ghosts, Fujihara couldn't possibly forget her name.

And precisely because he remembered this ghost's existence, Fujihara felt the cold sweat on his back intensify.

In his memory, Kayako's abilities were absolutely terrifying.

She possessed infinite resurrection, infinite clones, superhuman physical attacks, teleportation, invisibility, wall-phasing, psychic assaults, mind control, spatial manipulation, time manipulation, reality distortion, and countless other unimaginable powers.

This wasn't just some ghost—it was practically divine!

If these abilities were real, even Gojo Satoru would get sliced in half!

The only flaw she had, if you could call it that, was her tendency to remain confined to the haunted house, preventing the curse from spreading indiscriminately.

If such a ghost existed in this world, then this world was far more dangerous than anyone could have imagined!

At this moment, Fujihara wanted nothing more than to slap himself twice. If he could go back in time, he would never have meddled in this affair.

Emotions meant nothing to Kayako.

In the original story, Kayako had once loved someone deeply during her lifetime—even obsessively—but after becoming the curse, she didn't hesitate for a second to kill the person she loved.

She was a pure ghost!

If he hadn't known about Kayako or visited her haunted house, he might've been fine. But now, having initiated contact with her, he feared that karmic consequences had already taken root. Would she come after him if she ever became the curse?

Or maybe he was overthinking it—perhaps she was just another person with the same name?

Fujihara stared at Kayako.

White dress, a black cat by her side, and the name Kayako Saeki—both surname and given name were rare. Add to that his ability as a Yin-Yang Eyes user (someone who can see spirits), and the fact that Hikigaya Shizuka had completely ignored Kayako when they passed her earlier on the street—all signs pointed to the conclusion that this was indeed the terrifying curse of Kayako!

What should he do now? Seek out professional exorcists? He doubted they'd stand a chance against her unless this world operated under high-magic rules where supernatural forces were commonplace. Otherwise, Kayako was an unsolvable monster.

What kind of horror is the scariest? It's something akin to Cthulhu—a force so overwhelming that no means of resistance works, creating pure, unbreakable terror.

Kayako noticed Fujihara's strange expression and nervously lowered her head, thinking she must have done something wrong.

Looking down at her school uniform shoes, she unconsciously curled her toes tightly and asked hesitantly:

"Excuse me… what is your name? You've helped me so much, yet I still don't know who you are."

Fujihara really didn't want to tell her his name, but there was no way around it. With a forced smile, he replied: "Fujihara Tetsu."

"Fujihara-san?"

"You're only two years younger than me; no need for such formalities."

"Then… Fujihara-kun?"

"Yeah, that works. And I'll call you Kayako, alright?"

Kayako's heart raced. Being called by her first name so casually made her blush.

Without realizing it, she smiled. "Th-there's no problem, Fujihara-kun. Please feel free to call me Kayako."

By this point, Fujihara had managed to calm himself down.

If it's fate, there's no escaping it. Since things had reached this point, there was no use sulking. He needed to figure out how to deal with the situation.

"I have class tomorrow, so I'm heading home to sleep. Kayako, you should rest too. Tokyo's generally safe, but this area is a bit secluded, so be careful on your way back."

With that, Fujihara waved goodbye, turned around, and headed toward his house.

Kayako stood frozen, watching Fujihara walk away.

When his figure was about to disappear around the corner, she suddenly snapped out of her daze and, almost instinctively, began following him in the same direction.

"I-I'm not some stalker! I'm not following him—I just want to know where Fujihara-kun lives."

"Yes, I just want to know where he lives. That's all."

Kayako whispered to herself, trying to reassure herself as she trailed behind Fujihara from a distance.

Being a top-tier operative, Fujihara immediately sensed someone tailing him. Recognizing it was Kayako, he chose not to confront her and instead pretended to be unaware, continuing toward his home.

Could this woman actually be a yandere?

Arriving at the gate of his luxurious mansion, Fujihara opened the door and stepped inside.

From beyond the fence, Kayako peeked at the blooming roses in the garden and watched the European-style mansion Fujihara had entered.

"So Fujihara-kun lives in such a fancy place…"

Only after seeing the lights turn on inside the mansion did Kayako reluctantly leave, glancing back repeatedly as she walked away.

Unbeknownst to her, Fujihara had already set up security measures around the estate. Sitting on the living room couch, he pulled out his phone and monitored her departure through the outdoor cameras.

Looking up at the crystal chandelier hanging from the ceiling, he gazed at the vast yet eerily empty mansion.

For some reason, Fujihara suddenly felt the same fear he'd experienced as a child when he lived alone.

"I've been spooked by Kayako," he muttered to himself with a sigh.

He touched the handgun tucked in his pocket, knowing full well it would be useless against a curse like hers.

"Calm down. It's not a hopeless situation. Right now, Kayako is still alive. Though she does have that peculiar gloomy aura, there's one thing we can confirm: she hasn't become the curse yet, and she doesn't possess those horrifying powers."

"In the original story, the curse fully manifested after she was brutally murdered by her husband, who suspected her of infidelity."

"From another perspective, as long as Kayako stays alive, she won't transform into the curse, and I'll remain safe."

"Therefore, I shouldn't avoid her. On the contrary, I need to stay close to her and protect her safety."

The information from the original story couldn't be trusted entirely. For instance, considering Kayako's history of domestic abuse, who knew whether her despicable parents might harm her one day, triggering the curse prematurely?

"I need to keep a closer eye on Kayako. If possible, I should take preemptive action and eliminate the potential threats—like her parents, who could act as triggers for disaster."

Such tasks were second nature to someone like him—a seasoned CIA operative.
