Chapter 7 - Chapter 7: Big or Not, Only a Try Will Tell

She nodded, and her loose strands of hair fell, hiding the hint of spring light. Lu Qing felt a trace of displeasure in his heart but withdrew his gaze and said in a calm voice:

"The day after tomorrow, you're discharged from the hospital and returning to the old mansion. If you want me to agree to your requests, show me some sincerity."

Returning to the old mansion? Makes sense. There's still Old Sir Lu to deal with. Her suicide incident had alarmed the old man, so she needed to go back and explain herself. As for the sincerity he mentioned, it was likely about showing whether she, as Mrs. Lu, was qualified in front of outsiders.

Qin Miaomiao nodded, her fingers unconsciously tucked the fine strands of hair behind her ear, revealing a small, delicate pink ear. Such a simple action, done by her, added an unexpected touch of charm. This scene fell into Lu Qing's eyes, and his gaze grew subtly darker.

His nominal wife, upon closer inspection, turned out to be a rare beauty.

Her facial features were exquisite and petite, with a pair of watery peach blossom eyes, a slightly upturned nose that added a hint of playfulness, pale complexion, and slightly chapped lips. Her once dull eyes now sparkled with a sly glimmer, and her posture was upright. Every move carried an unintentional allure, making her seem like a completely different person than before.

Interesting...

Soon, it was the day to be discharged. Walking out of the hospital doors, breathing in greedily the air free of formalin and disinfectant smells, Qin Miaomiao's gaze turned sharp and resolute.

"Su Moli, Chu Yunhao, you better prepare yourselves."

Sitting quietly by the car window in a silver Ferrari, Qin Miaomiao watched the passing scenery. Although Lu Qing sat in the backseat with her, he remained focused on his documents, not sparing her even a glance.

Yet Qin Miaomiao didn't mind, even feeling content with her freedom. She took greedy gulps of the fresh air and casually whistled a tune!

To live healthily and freely like this—there's nothing better!

Her tidy ponytail, glossy and full forehead, fragile yet still exquisite pale cheeks paired with a soft yellow knit sweater, lent her not a gaudy extravagance, but a rare blend of understated elegance.

Hearing her singing, Lu Qing glanced at her discreetly.

Qin Miaomiao suddenly felt a chill on her back. Her song abruptly stopped, and she shyly stuck out her tongue, pretending nothing had happened, turning her gaze back to the window.

Her movement, though subtle, did not escape Lu Qing's eyes. Watching the faintly exposed tip of her rosy tongue, Lu Qing involuntarily felt his throat tighten.

"Continue."

"Continue what?"

"Whistling."

Lu Qing's voice remained cold as ice. But colder still was Qin Miaomiao's back, which now felt like it might freeze under his stare.

"You think I'll whistle just because you told me to? That's humiliating." Qin Miaomiao stubbornly refused, her voice overly brash.

"Oh? Humiliating?"

His words were as brief as ever, but the piercing gaze behind them left Qin Miaomiao guilty to the core. She wasn't some kind of performer—was he really expecting her to sing?

"Let's just talk business. We're almost at the old mansion. Anything I need to know beforehand?"

Lu Qing closed his laptop and tossed it aside, casting her a glance devoid of warmth before speaking in a calm voice:

"What do you think?"

Qin Miaomiao obediently nodded, "Understood. Rest assured; I will handle it properly. I won't bring trouble to you."

He turned his head to look at her, the sunlight bathing his face in a soft glow, enhancing his already striking features. Yet his eyes contained a probing coldness. When he spoke, his voice seemed steeped in icy water, yet carried a magnetic allure—a tone that could easily charm anyone.

Even Qin Miaomiao, staring at his perfect, god-like face, couldn't help but feel entranced. This foolish girl, what amazing luck did she strike to marry him? She was still lost in thought when his calm voice broke in:

"If you're going to act, make sure it's convincing. Being deliberately distant will only raise suspicions."
