"Is that all you've got, Kiba?" growled Naruto.

Kiba tried to respond with a roar and hurled himself forward, spinning in the air to execute his Tsuuga.

But Naruto had already seen it coming. At the last second, he dodged the attack with ease, and before Kiba could correct his trajectory, Naruto caught him mid-air with a brutal punch to the stomach.

The blow shook Kiba's whole body, knocking the air out of his lungs.

Almost folded in half, Kiba dropped to his knees on the ground.

Naruto didn't stop.

In an instant, he appeared in front of him, grabbed him by the shoulder, and smashed his knee into Kiba's jaw, snapping his head backward.

Before Kiba could fall, Naruto slammed him down onto the ground.

"Come on, Kiba!" shouted Naruto, giving him no time to recover. "Weren't you the one saying I was weak? If I'm weak, what does that make you…?"

Kiba tried to get up, staggering, growling like a wounded dog, but Naruto was already on him.

A right hook knocked him to the ground again. Kiba barely managed to roll over and get on all fours before a direct kick to the ribs sent him rolling several meters away.

Naruto didn't stop and bit his finger until a thin trickle of blood appeared.

"Ninja Art: Summoning Technique!"

He slammed his palm into the ground, and a great puff of smoke surrounded him.

When the smoke cleared, everyone in the stands stared at Naruto in surprise.

On his head sat a toad, about the size of Akamaru—maybe a bit bigger.

The toad's skin was orange with some purple markings. It also wore an open blue shirt.

Hiruzen Sarutobi's eyes widened in astonishment when he realized Naruto had signed the contract with the toads of Mount Myōboku.

Had his student, Jiraiya, returned to the village without his knowing?

"Gamakichi, teach Akamaru a lesson while I deal with Kiba."

Since Akamaru had kept attacking him the whole time he was busy beating Kiba, Naruto decided to summon Gamakichi—whom he had recently signed a contract with—to take care of him.

After all, he didn't feel right hitting a dog.

"You got it!" said Gamakichi, jumping from his head and lunging toward Akamaru.

While this happened, Naruto slowly walked up to Kiba and grabbed him by the shirt, pulling him closer.

Kiba, with a busted lip and blood dripping from his brow, raised a trembling hand.

"I-I surrender…!" he gasped, quickly glancing at Hayate.

Naruto paused, looking down at him, and clicked his tongue in annoyance.

Had he known it would end this way, he wouldn't have bothered summoning Gamakichi.

He let go of Kiba and finally smiled in satisfaction.

"You did well to surrender," Naruto said, "though I would've liked to hit you a bit more."

When Hayate proclaimed Naruto the winner, Kiba remained on the ground, defeated, as Naruto walked away.

From the arena floor, still lying there, Kiba saw out of the corner of his eye Hinata running toward Naruto to congratulate him.

He couldn't help but clench his teeth in frustration and stay silent.

Soon after, several medical-nin carried him out of the arena.

...

[Pakura: Looks like Naruto is a little possessive, don't you think?]

[Tobirama Senju: A little? If the Inuzuka kid hadn't surrendered, Naruto would've never stopped hitting him.]

[Mito Uzumaki: Mhm. You always have to be careful not to let someone steal what's yours.]

[Madara Uchiha: …]

[Mito Uzumaki: Something to say, Madara?]

[Madara Uchiha: N-no…]

[Tobirama Senju: If someone tried to take Izuna from me, I don't know how I'd react, but I know I wouldn't take it well.]

[Madara Uchiha: Gay…]

[Tobirama Senju: You...! Hah, forget it, I'm not arguing with you!]

[Kushina Uzumaki: Honestly, I like that my Naruto got mad at Kiba for liking Hinata. I still remember when Minato laughed and did nothing when someone tried to flirt with me. I was furious back then!]

[Mito Uzumaki: Hashirama is the same! Every woman likes to see her man defend her!]

[Kushina Uzumaki: Grandma Mito, I knew you'd understand me!]

[Hashirama Senju: Huh? What's wrong with it? Doesn't that just mean you're so beautiful that other men are interested in you? That means I'm lucky to have such a beautiful wife!]

[Mito Uzumaki: Oh, you charmer. I didn't know you could say such nice things.]

[Madara Uchiha: Mhm. I'm surprised too.]

[Tobirama Senju: I didn't know my brother had this side. And here I was wondering how he managed to win over my sister-in-law… I guess now I know.]

[Mito Uzumaki: I assure you, Tobirama, Hashirama was very dense when we first met.]

[Hashirama Senju: If it weren't for Ashina, we would've never gotten engaged. I should thank him someday.]

[Madara Uchiha: Tch. I hate arranged marriages.]

[Mito Uzumaki: Heh, that's just because you weren't the one who married Hashirama.]

[Hashirama Senju: Huh? Marry Madara? That's hilarious! I just imagined Madara in a wedding dress! HAHAHAHAHAHA!]

[Madara Uchiha: …]

...

When Naruto returned to Sasuke, Sakura, and Kakashi, none of the three turned to look at him.

As expected, they had all assumed he would win his match.

They hadn't even considered the possibility of him losing.

After all… how could Naruto lose to Kiba?

"You could at least say something, idiots…" muttered Naruto, leaning on the railing next to Sasuke while watching the arena.

"Yeah~ yeah~ good job…" replied Kakashi from the side, eyes still glued to his book.

Naruto looked at him in annoyance, rolling his eyes.

"We all expected you to win, Naruto. You're the strongest among us," Sakura said casually.

Beside her, Sasuke clicked her tongue, visibly annoyed by the statement, though deep down she agreed.

"At least it was fun watching you beat the crap out of that savage…" she muttered with a faint smile.

"Well, I always knew Naruto would win!" Karin exclaimed, crossing her arms proudly.

The next moment, she clung to Naruto's arm and rested her head on his shoulder.

"I never doubted you," she said, smiling.

Naruto smiled back, warmed by her gesture.

"Oh, the next match is about to start," Sakura pointed out, looking at the screen with the new contenders' names.

Naruto looked up, frowning as he read them.

Hinata Hyūga vs. Neji Hyūga

"Well, a match between Hyūga clan members. This is getting interesting," said Kakashi, lifting his eyes from his book for the first time.

Sasuke smiled with interest upon seeing the names.

"I think I'm going to enjoy this fight," she said, focusing on the field. "I hope Hinata gets beaten up."

Of course, Sasuke didn't say that last part out loud, keeping it to herself.

Naruto rolled his eyes.

"I'm not so sure about the outcome. Hinata's been training really hard lately. They're pretty evenly matched."

His words made Sasuke tense.

Had Naruto been training Hinata in secret? Was that why she hadn't seen him much lately?

Sasuke frowned, irritated.

Naruto, noticing her expression, wondered if this was how Madara Uchiha felt when he saw Hashirama Senju with Mito Uzumaki.

He couldn't wait for the matches to end so Mikoto and Izuna could put Sasuke in her place.

Although, knowing Mikoto… she'd probably just encourage her even more.

As Hinata walked toward the arena, Karin sighed.

She'd spent nearly five straight days with her during the second part of the Chūnin Exams.

After spending so much time together, it was impossible to hate her.

Hinata didn't have a drop of malice in her.

And when she learned that Karin was related to Naruto, Hinata made an effort to get close to her from the very start.

In the end, Karin grew fond of her, even if she didn't want to admit it.

Because Hinata… was her biggest rival.

She looked at Naruto and blushed. Then quickly looked away—only to meet Sasuke's eyes, fixed on her with a clearly murderous expression.

Karin gulped and turned her head away fast, forcing herself to look at the combat arena.

"T-that girl is scary…" she thought, vowing never to approach Sasuke again.

She knew, thanks to Naruto, that Sasuke was actually a girl.

When she found out, she thought they could be friends. After all, she and Naruto were teammates.

But Sasuke wasn't exactly friendly.

And Karin knew that, sooner or later, she'd have to face her too.

"Naruto will be mine!" Karin thought, determined.

What Karin didn't know was that Sasuke, right beside her, was thinking exactly the same thing.
